Papa Franjo u nedjelju je najavio da će krajem rujna promaknuti 21 biskupa i svećenika u kardinalski status, birajući tako skupinu najviših crkvenih dužnosnika koji će, nakon njegove smrti ili ostavke izabrati njegova nasljednika.

Ceremonija njihova imenovanja, poznata kao konzistorij, održat će se 30. rujna, najavio je 86-godišnji Franjo tijekom podnevnog obraćanja hodočasnicima, vjernicima i turistima na Trgu svetog Petra.

Osamnaest budućih nositelja purpura mlađe je od 80 godina, što znači da imaju pravo glasa na konklavi za izbor sljedećega pape.

Preostala trojica imaju više od 80 godina i prestari su za glasanje na konklavi, no papa ih imenuje kardinalima u znak zahvale za njihovo dugo služenje Crkvi.

Svim je kardinalima, bez obzira na životnu dob dopušteno da prisustvuju sastancima prije konklave ili generalne kongregacije, što im omogućuje sudjelovanje u izboru osobe za koju će se u konačnici odlučiti mlađi kardinali.

Novi kardinali su iz raznih zemalja svijeta, među kojima su Sjedinjene Države, Italija, Argentina, Južnoafrička Republika, Španjolska, Kolumbija, Južni Sudan, Hong Kong, Poljska, Malezija, Tanzanija i Portugal.

Trojica novih kardinala nedavno su imenovana na funkcije voditelja glavnih vatikanskih odjela. Među njima je i argentinski nadbiskup Victor Manuel Fernandez, kojega je Franjo imenovao voditeljem vatikanskog dikasterija za nauk vjere.

Drugo značajno imenovanje za Katoličku crkvu je imenovanje biskupa Stephena Chow Sau-Yana iz Hong Konga. Chow je bio provincijal Kineske provincije Družbe Isusove, a papa ga je imenovao novim biskupom Hong Konga. On je jedna od glavnih veza s Katoličkom crkvom u komunističkoj Kini, u kojoj Vatikan nastoji poboljšati vjerske uvjete za katolike koji ondje žive.

Papa Franjo imenovanja je najavio tijekom podnevnog obraćanja hodočasnicima, vjernicima i turistima na Trgu svetog Petra

Papa Franjo u nedjelju je najavio da će krajem rujna promaknuti 21 biskupa i svećenika u kardinalski status, birajući tako skupinu najviših crkvenih dužnosnika koji će, nakon njegove smrti ili ostavke izabrati njegova nasljednika.

Ceremonija njihova imenovanja, poznata kao konzistorij, održat će se 30. rujna, najavio je 86-godišnji Franjo tijekom podnevnog obraćanja hodočasnicima, vjernicima i turistima na Trgu svetog Petra.

Osamnaest budućih nositelja purpura mlađe je od 80 godina, što znači da imaju pravo glasa na konklavi za izbor sljedećega pape.

Preostala trojica imaju više od 80 godina i prestari su za glasanje na konklavi, no papa ih imenuje kardinalima u znak zahvale za njihovo dugo služenje Crkvi.

Svim je kardinalima, bez obzira na životnu dob dopušteno da prisustvuju sastancima prije konklave ili generalne kongregacije, što im omogućuje sudjelovanje u izboru osobe za koju će se u konačnici odlučiti mlađi kardinali.

Novi kardinali su iz raznih zemalja svijeta, među kojima su Sjedinjene Države, Italija, Argentina, Južnoafrička Republika, Španjolska, Kolumbija, Južni Sudan, Hong Kong, Poljska, Malezija, Tanzanija i Portugal.

Trojica novih kardinala nedavno su imenovana na funkcije voditelja glavnih vatikanskih odjela. Među njima je i argentinski nadbiskup Victor Manuel Fernandez, kojega je Franjo imenovao voditeljem vatikanskog dikasterija za nauk vjere.

Drugo značajno imenovanje za Katoličku crkvu je imenovanje biskupa Stephena Chow Sau-Yana iz Hong Konga. Chow je bio provincijal Kineske provincije Družbe Isusove, a papa ga je imenovao novim biskupom Hong Konga. On je jedna od glavnih veza s Katoličkom crkvom u komunističkoj Kini, u kojoj Vatikan nastoji poboljšati vjerske uvjete za katolike koji ondje žive.
