Sovjetski nervni otrov novičok, kojim je prema njemačkim tvrdnjama otrovan ruski oporbeni političar Aleksej Navaljni, vojni je otrov koji je dodan na listu zabranjenog kemijskog oružja nakon što je korišten u ranijem napadu u Velikoj Britaniji.
Nervni otrovi iz skupine novičok nova su vrsta otrova koje su sovjetske vlasti razvile pred kraj hladnog rata.
O njima se malo se znalo do 2018. godine kada su korišteni u engleskom Salisburyju u pokušaju ubojstva bivšeg dvostrukog ruskog špijuna. Zapad je za napad optužio Kremlj.
Prošle godine dodane su na popis zabranjenih supstanci u Konvenciji o kemijskom oružju, što je bila njezina prva dopuna otkako postoji.
Navaljnom je pozlilo na letu iznad Sibira prošli mjesec i prvo mu je pružena liječnička pomoć u Rusiji prije nego što je prevezen u Berlin.
Ruski liječnici rekli su da nisu pronašli tragove toksina, ali je berlinska bolnica Charite navela da je otrovan nekim tipom inhibitora kolinesteraze, skupinom kemikalija koje uključuju pesticide i nervne otrove poput novičoka, VX-a i sarina.
Njemačka je u srijedu objavila da su testovi provedeni u vojnom laboratoriju potvrdili da je Navaljni otrovan novičokom.
Ruski kemičar Vili Mirzajanov, koji se preselio u Ameriku i prvi zapadu otkrio što je novičok (na ruskom, početnik), rekao je za AFP 2018. da je bilo potrebno 15 godina za njegov razvoj. Sovjeti su ga testirali na životinjama
"Samo su Rusi su razvili ovakvu vrstu nervnih otrova", rekao je za AFP u vrijeme napada na Sergeja Skripala i njegovu kćer u Salisburyju.
"Držali su ga i još ga drže u tajnosti."
Smatra se da se novičok koristi u obliku praha ili kao drugi nervni otrovi - u tekućini ili pari.
Sastojci za otrov prevoze se odvojeno i bezopasni su dok ih se ne spoji, rekao je Richard Parsons, predavač biokemije i toksikologije na KCL-u.
"Iznimno su otrovni", rekao je Parsons. "Nervnog otrova nema nigdje osim u ruskoj vojsci, koliko mi je poznato", dodao je.
Nervni otrovi napadaju središnji živčani sustav ometanjem komunikacije između mozga, glavnih organa i mišića.
Preopterećenje sustava može rezultirati gubitkom kontrole mišića što može uzrokovati poteškoće s disanjem i paralizu.
U težim slučajevima žrtva se može ugušiti ili može doći do zatajenja srca.
"Pojedinci mogu biti izloženi novičoku ako im dodirne kožu ili ako ga udahnu", rekao je Wayne Carter sa Sveučilišta Nottingham.
Berlinska bolnica objavila je da se Navaljni i dalje nalazi u induciranoj komi i da ga se liječi atropinom.
Atropin ublažava simptome blokiranjem acetilkolina, kemijskog transmitera koji kontrolira kontrakciju mišića.
Nervni otrovi napadaju enzime koji kontroliraju acetilkolin što uzrokuje disfunkciju mišića.
S vremenom tijelo izbaci nervni otrov i počne samo proizvoditi potrebne enzime.
Skripal i njegova kći preživjeli su napad 2018. zahvaljujući pravovremenoj intervenciji liječnika, ali je preminula je jedna Britanka koja je bila izložena nervnom otrovu, a ozlijeđeno je nekoliko drugih ljudi, uključujući policajca.
Operacija dekontaminacije u Wiltshieru trajala je gotovo godinu dana i obuhvaćala je desetke područja.
Moskva odbacuje umiješanost i tvrdi da je uništila sva svoja kemijska oružja.
Pristaše Navaljnog vjeruju da mu je otrovna supstanca ubačena u čaj koji je pio u zračnoj luci.
Parsons kaže da bi to moglo značiti da se rizik za druge "može značajno smanjiti, ali se ne smije odbaciti mogućnost kontaminacije drugih područja, osobito bolnice i aviona.
Dodavanje novičoka u aneks Konvencije o kemijskom oružju u studenom 2019. objašnjeno je kao prilagođavanje "novim prijetnjama".
Konvencija je tada prvi put revidirana od stupanja na snagu 1997.

Sovjetski nervni otrov novičok, kojim je prema njemačkim tvrdnjama otrovan ruski oporbeni političar Aleksej Navaljni, vojni je otrov koji je dodan na listu zabranjenog kemijskog oružja nakon što je korišten u ranijem napadu u Velikoj Britaniji.
Nervni otrovi iz skupine novičok nova su vrsta otrova koje su sovjetske vlasti razvile pred kraj hladnog rata.
O njima se malo se znalo do 2018. godine kada su korišteni u engleskom Salisburyju u pokušaju ubojstva bivšeg dvostrukog ruskog špijuna. Zapad je za napad optužio Kremlj.
Prošle godine dodane su na popis zabranjenih supstanci u Konvenciji o kemijskom oružju, što je bila njezina prva dopuna otkako postoji.
Navaljnom je pozlilo na letu iznad Sibira prošli mjesec i prvo mu je pružena liječnička pomoć u Rusiji prije nego što je prevezen u Berlin.
Ruski liječnici rekli su da nisu pronašli tragove toksina, ali je berlinska bolnica Charite navela da je otrovan nekim tipom inhibitora kolinesteraze, skupinom kemikalija koje uključuju pesticide i nervne otrove poput novičoka, VX-a i sarina.
Njemačka je u srijedu objavila da su testovi provedeni u vojnom laboratoriju potvrdili da je Navaljni otrovan novičokom.
Ruski kemičar Vili Mirzajanov, koji se preselio u Ameriku i prvi zapadu otkrio što je novičok (na ruskom, početnik), rekao je za AFP 2018. da je bilo potrebno 15 godina za njegov razvoj. Sovjeti su ga testirali na životinjama
"Samo su Rusi su razvili ovakvu vrstu nervnih otrova", rekao je za AFP u vrijeme napada na Sergeja Skripala i njegovu kćer u Salisburyju.
"Držali su ga i još ga drže u tajnosti."
Smatra se da se novičok koristi u obliku praha ili kao drugi nervni otrovi - u tekućini ili pari.
Sastojci za otrov prevoze se odvojeno i bezopasni su dok ih se ne spoji, rekao je Richard Parsons, predavač biokemije i toksikologije na KCL-u.
"Iznimno su otrovni", rekao je Parsons. "Nervnog otrova nema nigdje osim u ruskoj vojsci, koliko mi je poznato", dodao je.
Nervni otrovi napadaju središnji živčani sustav ometanjem komunikacije između mozga, glavnih organa i mišića.
Preopterećenje sustava može rezultirati gubitkom kontrole mišića što može uzrokovati poteškoće s disanjem i paralizu.
U težim slučajevima žrtva se može ugušiti ili može doći do zatajenja srca.
"Pojedinci mogu biti izloženi novičoku ako im dodirne kožu ili ako ga udahnu", rekao je Wayne Carter sa Sveučilišta Nottingham.
Berlinska bolnica objavila je da se Navaljni i dalje nalazi u induciranoj komi i da ga se liječi atropinom.
Atropin ublažava simptome blokiranjem acetilkolina, kemijskog transmitera koji kontrolira kontrakciju mišića.
Nervni otrovi napadaju enzime koji kontroliraju acetilkolin što uzrokuje disfunkciju mišića.
S vremenom tijelo izbaci nervni otrov i počne samo proizvoditi potrebne enzime.
Skripal i njegova kći preživjeli su napad 2018. zahvaljujući pravovremenoj intervenciji liječnika, ali je preminula je jedna Britanka koja je bila izložena nervnom otrovu, a ozlijeđeno je nekoliko drugih ljudi, uključujući policajca.
Operacija dekontaminacije u Wiltshieru trajala je gotovo godinu dana i obuhvaćala je desetke područja.
Moskva odbacuje umiješanost i tvrdi da je uništila sva svoja kemijska oružja.
Pristaše Navaljnog vjeruju da mu je otrovna supstanca ubačena u čaj koji je pio u zračnoj luci.
Parsons kaže da bi to moglo značiti da se rizik za druge "može značajno smanjiti, ali se ne smije odbaciti mogućnost kontaminacije drugih područja, osobito bolnice i aviona.
Dodavanje novičoka u aneks Konvencije o kemijskom oružju u studenom 2019. objašnjeno je kao prilagođavanje "novim prijetnjama".
Konvencija je tada prvi put revidirana od stupanja na snagu 1997.
