Znanstvenici na Islandu rekli su da postoje "snažni znakovi" da se nakon nekoliko dana gotovo stalne seizmičke aktivnosti u blizini planine Keilir, oko 30 kilometara južno od glavnog grada Reykjavika, možda sprema vulkanska erupcija, piše Guardian, a prenosi Jutarnji list.

"Ne kažemo da imamo znakove da je erupcija započela", rekla je Kristín Jónsdóttir iz islandskog meteorološkog ureda. "Ali ovo izgleda kao vrsta aktivnosti koju očekujemo uoči erupcije."

Víðir Reynisson iz otočnih snaga civilne zaštite rekao je tijekom konferencije za novinare kako "prije da nego ne" započinje erupcija - prva na tom području od 12. stoljeća. Dodao je da bi se erupcija mogla dogoditi u sljedećih nekoliko sati.

Ali Víðir je rekao da se "nije dogodila nikakva katastrofa i da svi mogu nastaviti sa svojim svakodnevnim životima". Nije rekao da prijeti neposredna opasnost, iako bi ljudi trebali izbjegavati putovanja na poluotok Reykjanes.

Tijekom posljednjeg tjedna na poluotoku su zabilježene tisuće podrhtavanja jačine do 5 po Richteru. Freysteinn Sigmundsson, geofizičar, rekao je da bi se erupcija, ako do nje uopće dođe, mogla dogoditi i nekoliko dana kasnije.

Ako magma dopre do površine, rekao je Freysteinn, malo je vjerojatno da će biti u obliku eksplozije lave i pepela koji leti u nebo, već će se vjerojatnije dogoditi ono što je poznato kao erupcija pukotine, u kojoj lava sporije izlazi kroz manje pukotine Zemljine površine.

To znači da je malo vjerojatno da će se ponoviti kaos viđen 2010. godine kad je šestodnevna eksplozivna erupcija islandskog vulkana Eyjafjallajökull s juga zemlje, prouzročila goleme poremećaje u međunarodnom zračnom prometu te pogodila čak 10 milijuna putnika.

“Ovaj se događaj potpuno razlikuje od Eyjafjallajökulla, rekao je Freysteinn. "Vrlo je malo vjerojatno da će to poremetiti zračni prijevoz", rekao je. "Ovo će vjerojatno biti erupcija lave s malo eksplozivnih aktivnosti."

Strujanje lave u blizini planine Keilir vjerojatno neće doći do naseljenih područja, rekli su stručnjaci, ali moglo bi prekinuti zračni promet od i do međunarodne zračne luke Keflavík, koja se nalazi oko 20 km od glavnog područja seizmičkih aktivnosti i zbog čega je proglašeno stanje narančaste uzbune.

Također postoji šansa da bi cestovni pristup zračnoj luci mogao biti prekinut zbog protoka lave, što je natjeralo vlasti da izrade planove za nepredviđene situacije kako bi, ako bude potrebno, preusmjerili letove i putnike u druge zračne luke na otoku.

Znanstvenici na Islandu rekli su da postoje "snažni znakovi" da se nakon nekoliko dana gotovo stalne seizmičke aktivnosti u blizini planine Keilir, oko 30 kilometara južno od glavnog grada Reykjavika, možda sprema vulkanska erupcija, piše Guardian, a prenosi Jutarnji list.

"Ne kažemo da imamo znakove da je erupcija započela", rekla je Kristín Jónsdóttir iz islandskog meteorološkog ureda. "Ali ovo izgleda kao vrsta aktivnosti koju očekujemo uoči erupcije."

Víðir Reynisson iz otočnih snaga civilne zaštite rekao je tijekom konferencije za novinare kako "prije da nego ne" započinje erupcija - prva na tom području od 12. stoljeća. Dodao je da bi se erupcija mogla dogoditi u sljedećih nekoliko sati.

Ali Víðir je rekao da se "nije dogodila nikakva katastrofa i da svi mogu nastaviti sa svojim svakodnevnim životima". Nije rekao da prijeti neposredna opasnost, iako bi ljudi trebali izbjegavati putovanja na poluotok Reykjanes.

Tijekom posljednjeg tjedna na poluotoku su zabilježene tisuće podrhtavanja jačine do 5 po Richteru. Freysteinn Sigmundsson, geofizičar, rekao je da bi se erupcija, ako do nje uopće dođe, mogla dogoditi i nekoliko dana kasnije.

Ako magma dopre do površine, rekao je Freysteinn, malo je vjerojatno da će biti u obliku eksplozije lave i pepela koji leti u nebo, već će se vjerojatnije dogoditi ono što je poznato kao erupcija pukotine, u kojoj lava sporije izlazi kroz manje pukotine Zemljine površine.

To znači da je malo vjerojatno da će se ponoviti kaos viđen 2010. godine kad je šestodnevna eksplozivna erupcija islandskog vulkana Eyjafjallajökull s juga zemlje, prouzročila goleme poremećaje u međunarodnom zračnom prometu te pogodila čak 10 milijuna putnika.

“Ovaj se događaj potpuno razlikuje od Eyjafjallajökulla, rekao je Freysteinn. "Vrlo je malo vjerojatno da će to poremetiti zračni prijevoz", rekao je. "Ovo će vjerojatno biti erupcija lave s malo eksplozivnih aktivnosti."

Strujanje lave u blizini planine Keilir vjerojatno neće doći do naseljenih područja, rekli su stručnjaci, ali moglo bi prekinuti zračni promet od i do međunarodne zračne luke Keflavík, koja se nalazi oko 20 km od glavnog područja seizmičkih aktivnosti i zbog čega je proglašeno stanje narančaste uzbune.

Također postoji šansa da bi cestovni pristup zračnoj luci mogao biti prekinut zbog protoka lave, što je natjeralo vlasti da izrade planove za nepredviđene situacije kako bi, ako bude potrebno, preusmjerili letove i putnike u druge zračne luke na otoku.

Znanstvenici na Islandu rekli su da postoje "snažni znakovi" da se nakon nekoliko dana gotovo stalne seizmičke aktivnosti u blizini planine Keilir, oko 30 kilometara južno od glavnog grada Reykjavika, možda sprema vulkanska erupcija, piše Guardian, a prenosi Jutarnji list.

"Ne kažemo da imamo znakove da je erupcija započela", rekla je Kristín Jónsdóttir iz islandskog meteorološkog ureda. "Ali ovo izgleda kao vrsta aktivnosti koju očekujemo uoči erupcije."

Víðir Reynisson iz otočnih snaga civilne zaštite rekao je tijekom konferencije za novinare kako "prije da nego ne" započinje erupcija - prva na tom području od 12. stoljeća. Dodao je da bi se erupcija mogla dogoditi u sljedećih nekoliko sati.

Ali Víðir je rekao da se "nije dogodila nikakva katastrofa i da svi mogu nas...
