Ravnatelj CIA-e William Burns izjavio je u četvrtak da obavještajna agencija procjenjuje kako će sljedećih šest mjeseci biti "kritični" za Ukrajinu suočenu s ruskom invazijom, kazavši i da Rusi zadnjih tjedana ostvaruju neke manje dobitke.

Govoreći na jednom vanjskopolitičkom događaju na Sveučilištu Georgetown u Washingtonu D.C., Burns je također izjavio kako agencija procjenjuje da je kineski predsjednik Xi Jinping malo otriježnjen ratom u Ukrajini, ali da bi bilo pogrešno potcijeniti predanost Pekinga i Moskve zajedničkom partnerstvu.

Rusija i Kina potpisale su partnerstvo "bez ograničenja" prošle veljače, malo prije nego što su ruske snage izvršile invaziju na Ukrajinu, a njihove su gospodarske veze ojačale dok su se veze Rusije sa Zapadom smanjivale.

Kina se suzdržala od osude ruske operacije protiv Ukrajine, ali je pazila da ne pruži izravnu materijalnu potporu Rusiji, koja bi mogla izazvati zapadne sankcije poput onih nametnutih Moskvi.

No Burns, koji je nedavno putovao u Ukrajinu kako bi se sastao s ukrajinskim predsjednikom Volodimirom Zelenskim, rekao je da je Xi vjerojatno iznenađen i uznemiren onime što je opisao kao loš učinak ruske vojske.

Burns je dodao i da prijateljstvo Rusije i Kine nije u potpunosti bezgranično. "Mislim da je pogrešno podcjenjivati ​​uzajamnu predanost tom partnerstvu, ali to nije prijateljstvo potpuno bez granica", rekao je Burns.

Ruska invazija potaknula je zabrinutost Zapada da će Kina možda pdouzeti sličan potez na Tajvanu, otoku za koji Peking kaže da je njegov teritorij.

Po Burnsovim riječima, kineski predsjednik Xi i dalje ima ozbiljne ambicije oko Tajvana te je upozorio da bi sukob oko te otočne države bio "izrazito nesretan" za sve uključene.

Burns je rekao i da je SAD znao "kao obavještajnu stvar" da je Xi naredio svojoj vojsci da bude spremna izvršiti invaziju na Tajvan do 2027. "To ne znači da je odlučio izvršiti invaziju 2027. ili bilo koje druge godine, ali to je podsjetnik na ozbiljnost njegovog fokusa i ambicije", ustvrdio je Burns.

Za vrijeme Burnsova govora, stigla je vijest da navodno kineski špijunski balon leti iznad SAD-a već nekoliko dana te da su visoki američki dužnosnici savjetovali predsjedniku Joeu Bidenu da ga ne obara iz straha da bi krhotine mogle predstavljati sigurnosnu prijetnju.

Burns se nije osvrnuo  na to, ali je Kinu nazvao "najvećim geopolitičkim izazovom" s kojim se trenutno suočava SAD.

"Natjecanje s Kinom je jedinstveno u svom opsegu, i zaista se odvija u gotovo svim domenama, ne samo vojnim i ideološkim, već i ekonomskim, tehnološkim, sve od cyber prostora do samog svemira. To je globalno natjecanje na načine koji bi mogli biti još intenzivniji nego što je to bilo natjecanje sa Sovjetima", rekao je.

Burns je također govorio o pitanjima na Bliskom istoku, rekavši da je iranska vlada sve više uznemirena zbivanjima unutar zemlje, navodeći hrabrost, kako je opisao, iranskih žena kojima je "puna kapa". Izrazio je i zabrinutost zbog mogućnosti većeg nasilja između Izraelaca i Palestinaca.

Ravnatelj CIA-e William Burns izjavio je u četvrtak da obavještajna agencija procjenjuje kako će sljedećih šest mjeseci biti "kritični" za Ukrajinu suočenu s ruskom invazijom, kazavši i da Rusi zadnjih tjedana ostvaruju neke manje dobitke.

Govoreći na jednom vanjskopolitičkom događaju na Sveučilištu Georgetown u Washingtonu D.C., Burns je također izjavio kako agencija procjenjuje da je kineski predsjednik Xi Jinping malo otriježnjen ratom u Ukrajini, ali da bi bilo pogrešno potcijeniti predanost Pekinga i Moskve zajedničkom partnerstvu.

Rusija i Kina potpisale su partnerstvo "bez ograničenja" prošle veljače, malo prije nego što su ruske snage izvršile invaziju na Ukrajinu, a njihove su gospodarske veze ojačale dok su se veze Rusije sa Zapadom smanjivale.

Kina se suzdržala od osude ruske operacije protiv Ukrajine, ali je pazila da ne pruži izravnu materijalnu potporu Rusiji, koja bi mogla izazvati zapadne sankcije poput onih nametnutih Moskvi.

No Burns, koji je nedavno putovao u Ukrajinu kako bi se sastao s ukrajinskim predsjednikom Volodimirom Zelenskim, rekao je da je Xi vjerojatno iznenađen i uznemiren onime što je opisao kao loš učinak ruske vojske.

Burns je rekao i da je SAD znao "kao obavještajnu stvar" da je Xi naredio svojoj vojsci da bude spremna izvršiti invaziju na Tajvan do 2027. "To ne znači da je odlučio izvršiti invaziju 2027. ili bilo koje druge godine, ali to je podsjetnik na ozbiljnost njegovog fokusa i ambicije", ustvrdio je Burns.

Za vrijeme Burnsova govora, stigla je vijest da navodno kineski špijunski balon leti iznad SAD-a već nekoliko dana te da su visoki američki dužnosnici savjetovali predsjedniku Joeu Bidenu da ga ne obara iz straha da bi krhotine mogle predstavljati sigurnosnu prijetnju.

Burns se nije osvrnuo  na to, ali je Kinu nazvao "najvećim geopolitičkim izazovom" s kojim se trenutno suočava SAD.

"Natjecanje s Kinom je jedinstveno u svom opsegu, i zaista se odvija u gotovo svim domenama, ne samo vojnim i ideološkim, već i ekonomskim, tehnološkim, sve od cyber prostora do samog svemira. To je globalno natjecanje na načine koji bi mogli biti još intenzivniji nego što je to bilo natjecanje sa Sovjetima", rekao je.

Burns je također govorio o pitanjima na Bliskom istoku, rekavši da je iranska vlada sve više uznemirena zbivanjima unutar zemlje, navodeći hrabrost, kako je opisao, iranskih žena kojima je "puna kapa". Izrazio je i zabrinutost zbog mogućnosti većeg nasilja između Izraelaca i Palestinaca.

Ravnatelj CIA-e William Burns izjavio je u četvrtak da obavještajna agencija procjenjuje kako će sljedećih šest mjeseci biti "kritični" za Ukrajinu suočenu s ruskom invazijom, kazavši i da Rusi zadnjih tjedana ostvaruju neke manje dobitke.

Govoreći na jednom vanjskopolitičkom događaju na Sveučilištu Georgetown u Washingtonu D.C., Burns je također izjavio kako agencija procjenjuje da je kineski predsjednik Xi Jinping malo otriježnjen ratom u Ukrajini, ali da bi bilo pogrešno potcijeniti predanost Pekinga i Moskve zajedničkom partnerstvu.

Rusija i Kina potpisale su partnerstvo "bez ograničenja" prošle veljače, malo prije nego što su ruske snage izvršile invaziju na Ukrajinu, a njihove su gospodarske veze ojačale dok su se veze Rusije sa Zapadom smanjivale.
