Dok se većina drugih sportaša za božićne i novogodišnje blagdane odmara sa svojim najbližima, tenisači su tradicionalno na drugim krajevima planeta, tamo gdje u ovo doba godine vlada ljeto. Najprije na ATP turnirima u australskom Brisbaneu, katarskoj Dohi ili indijskom Chennaiju, gdje dočekaju i Novu godinu, a potom se sredinom siječnja svi sele u Melbourne, na prvi Grand Slam sezone.

Godina na izmaku donijela je povratak Rogera Federera na sam vrh svjetskoga tenisa. Premda su ga mnogi već vidjeli na zalasku karijere, 31-godišnji Švicarac pokazao je kako još uvijek može pobjeđivati velikane pet-šest godina mlađe od sebe, kao što su Novak Đoković, Rafael Nadal i Andy Murray. Nakon 2011. bez osvojenoga Grand Slama, Federer se u ovoj godini vratio osvajanjem Wimbledona, uništivši pobjedom u finalu nad Murrayem britanski san da napokon slavlje dočeka jedan domaći tenisač (slavio je s 3:1, jednako kao i nad Đokovićem u polufinalu).

Trijumf u Wimbledonu bio mu je sedmi u karijeri, čime se izjednačio s jednim od najvećih tenisača svih vremena, Peteom Samprasom. No, Federer je zapravo i najveći u povijesti, jer ukupno ima tri Grand Slama više od Amerikanca (17 prema 14), među kojima je i jedan Roland Garros (2009.), turnir koji Sampras nikad nije uspio osvojiti.

Pobjeda u All England Clubu donijela je Švicarcu i povratak na prvo mjesto ATP ljestvice, a u listopadu je ušao u povijest upisavši ukupno čak 300 tjedana kao prvi tenisač svijeta. Prvi je kojemu je to uspjelo, što je još jedan argument da bude najveći od najvećih. Ipak, godinu je završio kao drugi na ATP listi, pretekao ga je Đoković.

Osim Wimbledona, u 2012. Federer je osvojio i tri velika turnira iz serije Masters 1000 - Indian Wells, Madrid i Cincinnati. Dogurao je i do finala Olimpijskih igara u Londonu, no nije uspio obraniti zlato iz Pekinga 2008. U finalu, zapravo reprizi finala Wimbledona (igralo se na istome mjestu) Murray se osvetio Federeru i uzeo najsjajnije odličje.

Godina koja dolazi pokazat će hoće li Federer i dalje biti član “velike četvorke”. Preostala tri člana tog društva mlađa su od njega i u najboljim su godinama za sportaša - Đoković i Murray imaju po 25 godina, Nadal godinu više. Federer nije prijavio sudjelovanje ni na jednom od turnira do Australian Opena, koji počinje 14. siječnja.

Posljednji meč odigrao je 15. prosinca u kolumbijskom Bogoti, gdje je slavio nad Francuzem Jo-Wilfriedom Tsongom. Federer se u miru priprema za Melbourne, gdje će zasigurno biti drugi nositelj i od njega se očekuju velike stvari. Koliko velike, vidjet ćemo. Lani je stigao do polufinala, gdje je izgubio od Nadala u četiri tijesna seta.

Godina na izmaku donijela je povratak Rogera Federera na sam vrh svjetskoga tenisa. Premda su ga mnogi već vidjeli na zalasku karijere, 31-godišnji Švicarac pokazao je kako još uvijek može pobjeđivati velikane pet-šest godina mlađe od sebe, kao što su Novak Đoković, Rafael Nadal i Andy Murray. Nakon 2011. bez osvojenoga Grand Slama, Federer se u ovoj godini vratio osvajanjem Wimbledona, uništivši pobjedom u finalu nad Murrayem britanski san da napokon slavlje dočeka jedan domaći tenisač (slavio je s 3:1, jednako kao i nad Đokovićem u polufinalu).

Trijumf u Wimbledonu bio mu je sedmi u karijeri, čime se izjednačio s jednim od najvećih tenisača svih vremena, Peteom Samprasom. No, Federer je zapravo i najveći u povijesti, jer ukupno ima tri Grand Slama više od Amerikanca (17 prema 14), među kojima je i jedan Roland Garros (2009.), turnir koji Sampras nikad nije uspio osvojiti.

Pobjeda u All England Clubu donijela je Švicarcu i povratak na prvo mjesto ATP ljestvice, a u listopadu je ušao u povijest upisavši ukupno čak 300 tjedana kao prvi tenisač svijeta. Prvi je kojemu je to uspjelo, što je još jedan argument da bude najveći od najvećih. Ipak, godinu je završio kao drugi na ATP listi, pretekao ga je Đoković.

Osim Wimbledona, u 2012. Federer je osvojio i tri velika turnira iz serije Masters 1000 - Indian Wells, Madrid i Cincinnati. Dogurao je i do finala Olimpijskih igara u Londonu, no nije uspio obraniti zlato iz Pekinga 2008. U finalu, zapravo reprizi finala Wimbledona (igralo se na istome mjestu) Murray se osvetio Federeru i uzeo najsjajnije odličje.

Godina koja dolazi pokazat će hoće li Federer i dalje biti član “velike četvorke”. Preostala tri člana tog društva mlađa su od njega i u najboljim su godinama za sportaša - Đoković i Murray imaju po 25 godina, Nadal godinu više. Federer nije prijavio sudjelovanje ni na jednom od turnira do Australian Opena, koji počinje 14. siječnja.

Posljednji meč odigrao je 15. prosinca u kolumbijskom Bogoti, gdje je slavio nad Francuzem Jo-Wilfriedom Tsongom. Federer se u miru priprema za Melbourne, gdje će zasigurno biti drugi nositelj i od njega se očekuju velike stvari. Koliko velike, vidjet ćemo. Lani je stigao do polufinala, gdje je izgubio od Nadala u četiri tijesna seta.
