Legendarna američka tenisačica Serena Williams, kojoj je ovogdišnji US Open gotovo sigurno posljednji turnir produžila je karijeru za barem još dva dana 6-3, 6-3 pobjedom protiv Crnogorke Danke Kovinić u 1. kolu.

Za 40-godišnju Serenu ovo je bila tek druga pobjeda u 2022. godini, a u 2. kolu za suparnicu će imati trenutačno drugu igračicu svijeta Estonku Anett Kontaveit koja je uvjerljivo svladala Rumunjku Jaqueline Cristian sa 6-3 6-0.

Serena je početkom ovog mjeseca u časopisu "Vogue" najavila je kako se namjerava umiroviti ili "evoluirati od tenisa".

- To je bila vrlo teška odluka. Kada ste strastveni u vezi nečega i kada nešto tako jako volite tada je uvijek teško to i napustiti. No, postoje i druga poglavlja u životu, uistinu želim provoditi što više vremena kod kuće i raditi na svom duhovnom životu - kazala j Serena nakon pobjede.

Za razliku od Serene, prvi dan US Opena nije "preživio" četvrti nositelj u muškom ždrijebu Grk Stefanos Tsitsipas, njega je svladao kolumbijski kvalifikant Daniel Galan sa 6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, a od turnira se oprostio i pobjednik iz 2020. Austrijanac Dominic Thiem koji je za nastup na ovogodišnjem turniru dobio pozivnicu organizatora, njega je sa 7-5, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 nadigrao Španjolac Pablo Carreno.

Galan je dobio prvih 11 gemova protiv Tsitsipasa koji je u drugom setu potražio i liječničku pomoć zbog ozljede desnog ramena. Grk je potom zaigrao dosta bolje, no nije uspio preokrenuti dvoboj te se još jednom vrlo rano oprostio od New Yorka gdje nikada nije prošao dalje od 3. kola. Prije samo dva tjedna Tsitsipas je stigao do finala "masters 1000" turnira u Cincinnatiju gdje je izgubio od Borne Ćorića te se očekivalo kako na posljednji "grand slam" turnir sezone dolazi u dobroj formi.

Thiem je zbog problema s ozljedom pauzirao gotovo godinu dana, a po povratku na ATP Tour dosada je upisao više poraza no pobjeda pa je trenutačno tek 211. igrač svijeta. Niti na mjestu svog najvećeg uspjeha u karijeri nije imao uspjeha.

Legendarna američka tenisačica Serena Williams, kojoj je ovogdišnji US Open gotovo sigurno posljednji turnir produžila je karijeru za barem još dva dana 6-3, 6-3 pobjedom protiv Crnogorke Danke Kovinić u 1. kolu.

Za 40-godišnju Serenu ovo je bila tek druga pobjeda u 2022. godini, a u 2. kolu za suparnicu će imati trenutačno drugu igračicu svijeta Estonku Anett Kontaveit koja je uvjerljivo svladala Rumunjku Jaqueline Cristian sa 6-3 6-0.

Serena je početkom ovog mjeseca u časopisu "Vogue" najavila je kako se namjerava umiroviti ili "evoluirati od tenisa".

- To je bila vrlo teška odluka. Kada ste strastveni u vezi nečega i kada nešto tako jako volite tada je uvijek teško to i napustiti. No, postoje i druga poglavlja u životu, uistinu želim provoditi što više vremena kod kuće i raditi na svom duhovnom životu - kazala j Serena nakon pobjede.

Za razliku od Serene, prvi dan US Opena nije "preživio" četvrti nositelj u muškom ždrijebu Grk Stefanos Tsitsipas, njega je svladao kolumbijski kvalifikant Daniel Galan sa 6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, a od turnira se oprostio i pobjednik iz 2020. Austrijanac Dominic Thiem koji je za nastup na ovogodišnjem turniru dobio pozivnicu organizatora, njega je sa 7-5, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 nadigrao Španjolac Pablo Carreno.

Galan je dobio prvih 11 gemova protiv Tsitsipasa koji je u drugom setu potražio i liječničku pomoć zbog ozljede desnog ramena. Grk je potom zaigrao dosta bolje, no nije uspio preokrenuti dvoboj te se još jednom vrlo rano oprostio od New Yorka gdje nikada nije prošao dalje od 3. kola. Prije samo dva tjedna Tsitsipas je stigao do finala "masters 1000" turnira u Cincinnatiju gdje je izgubio od Borne Ćorića te se očekivalo kako na posljednji "grand slam" turnir sezone dolazi u dobroj formi.

Thiem je zbog problema s ozljedom pauzirao gotovo godinu dana, a po povratku na ATP Tour dosada je upisao više poraza no pobjeda pa je trenutačno tek 211. igrač svijeta. Niti na mjestu svog najvećeg uspjeha u karijeri nije imao uspjeha.

Legendarna američka tenisačica Serena Williams, kojoj je ovogdišnji US Open gotovo sigurno posljednji turnir produžila je karijeru za barem još dva dana 6-3, 6-3 pobjedom protiv Crnogorke Danke Kovinić u 1. kolu.

Za 40-godišnju Serenu ovo je bila tek druga pobjeda u 2022. godini, a u 2. kolu za suparnicu će imati trenutačno drugu igračicu svijeta Estonku Anett Kontaveit koja je uvjerljivo svladala Rumunjku Jaqueline Cristian sa 6-3 6-0.

Serena je početkom ovog mjeseca u časopisu "Vogue" najavila je kako se namjerava umiroviti ili "evoluirati od tenisa".
