On je posljednji američki adut na posljednjem Grand Slam turniru sezone – u Americi. Na startu US Opena Amerikanci su nade vjerojatno usmjerili prema Tayloru Fritzu i Francesu Tiafoeu, Top 10 igračima, a neki su pogledavali i na dio ždrijeba u kojemu je Tommy Paul.

Ben Shelton? Malo tko. Nije bezveznjak, ali tek je napunio dvadeset i vrti se oko 47. mjesta. Nije etiketiran za velike stvari, ne još.

No, život često zna iznenaditi, sport pogotovo. Pa kakav bi svijet bio kad bi se sve znalo unaprijed!? Kad bi sve bilo ucrtano, programirano...

Sport nisu samo brojke, postoci, ‘renkinzi‘... Uvijek se, gotovo uvijek, dogodi i "ono nešto". Što sport čini lijepim, nepredvidljivim, uzbudljivim.

Ovaj put dogodio se - Ben Shelton. Odnosno, Shelton junior. Polufinalist US Opena, zadnji američki as iz rukava za napad na Novaka Đokovića na korak do velikog finala.

Pet pobjeda

Novi američki junak nanizao je pet velikih pobjeda na terenima Flushing Meadowsa, već sad osigurao Top 20 i, dakako, ranking karijere. Do sada je to bilo 35. mjesto najboljih reketa svijeta, nakon US Opena bit će najmanje 19.

Cijele SAD bit će uz Big Bena. Kontra Đokovića. Zanimljivo, u sjeni ovog dvoboja na terenu vodit će se i jedan na tribinama, odnosno u loži namijenjenoj sviti dvojice polufinalista. Naime, Benu je trener njegov otac Bryan, a Novaku naš Goran Ivanišević.

Bryan Shelton je bio aktivni tenisač krajem osamdesetih i većim dijelom devedesetih, u "Goranovo vrijeme". Igrali su četiri puta, sva četiri meča dobio je - Ivanišević. Tri puta po 2:0 i jednom, u Roland Garrosu, s 3:1. Počasni set za Amerikanca iz Alabame. Goranova mušterija.

"Shelton senior" je bio velika američka nada u studentskim godinama. Međutim, kao profesionalac nije napravio velike stvari, bolje od 55. mjesta na ATP listi nije mogao. Sin ga je, evo, već debelo nadmašio. Umirovio se kao igrač 1997. godine i nastavio karijeru kao trener. Dugo je vodio tenisačice srednje škole koju je i sam nekada pohađao, a zatim i tenisače Sveučilišta Florida, i to vrlo uspješno. A onda se odlučio posvetiti sinu Benu koji je od svih označen kao momak za prave stvari.

"Moj se tata danas povukao iz sveučilišnog treniranja. Čestitam na svemu što si postigao u te 24 godine. Tvoju karijeru ne određuju osvojena prvenstva i priznanja, već ljudi s kojima si to napravio i čije si živote promijenio. Za mladiće koji pokušavaju pronaći svoj put u životu od njega nema boljeg uzora", napisao je tada na svom Instagram profilu sin Ben i dodao: "Tim iz snova ponovno je na okupu, jedva čekam da vidim što možemo postići zajedno".

A mogu puno. Samo ove godine imaju četvrtfinale Australian Opena i (najmanje) polufinale US Opena, ulazak u Top 20. Ne zaboravite, Ben je tek napunio 20 godina.

Cijela obitelj Shelton s Floride je teniska. Geni se prenose generacijama. I Benova majka Lisa, rođena Witsken, je bila tenisačica. Jedna od osmero braće i sestara. Jedan od braće, Todd Witsken, bio je četvrti igrač svijeta u parovima. Na žalost, umro je već u 34. godini od raka mozga.

Tata, mama, ujak, svi tenisači. Aj pogodite, kojim se sportom bavi Benova sestra Emma? Da, pogodili ste.

Benov uspjeh je zapisan u genima. Živi i uživa najbolje dane karijere, američki je junak, igra polufinale Grand Slama na američkom tlu, nakrcao se i bodova i dolara i slave, ušao u Top 20.

Do "traga u beskraju" dijele da još samo dva koraka. Prvi, najveći, zove se Novak Đoković. Drugi je Goran Ivanišević. Igrač koji je uništavao karijeru Bryana Sheltona. Ben i Bryan protiv Novaka i Gorana. Ima tu i starih računa...

On je posljednji američki adut na posljednjem Grand Slam turniru sezone – u Americi. Na startu US Opena Amerikanci su nade vjerojatno usmjerili prema Tayloru Fritzu i Francesu Tiafoeu, Top 10 igračima, a neki su pogledavali i na dio ždrijeba u kojemu je Tommy Paul.

Ben Shelton? Malo tko. Nije bezveznjak, ali tek je napunio dvadeset i vrti se oko 47. mjesta. Nije etiketiran za velike stvari, ne još.

No, život često zna iznenaditi, sport pogotovo. Pa kakav bi svijet bio kad bi se sve znalo unaprijed!? Kad bi sve bilo ucrtano, programirano...

Sport nisu samo brojke, postoci, ‘renkinzi‘... Uvijek se, gotovo uvijek, dogodi i "ono nešto". Što sport čini lijepim, nepredvidljivim, uzbudljivim.

Ovaj put dogodio se - Ben Shelton. Odnosno, Shelton junior. Polufinalist US Opena, zadnji američki as iz rukava za napad na Novaka Đokovića na korak do velikog finala.

Pet pobjeda

Novi američki junak nanizao je pet velikih pobjeda na terenima Flushing Meadowsa, već sad osigurao Top 20 i, dakako, ranking karijere. Do sada je to bilo 35. mjesto najboljih reketa svijeta, nakon US Opena bit će najmanje 19.

Cijele SAD bit će uz Big Bena. Kontra Đokovića. Zanimljivo, u sjeni ovog dvoboja na terenu vodit će se i jedan na tribinama, odnosno u loži namijenjenoj sviti dvojice polufinalista. Naime, Benu je trener njegov otac Bryan, a Novaku naš Goran Ivanišević.

Bryan Shelton je bio aktivni tenisač krajem osamdesetih i većim dijelom devedesetih, u "Goranovo vrijeme". Igrali su četiri puta, sva četiri meča dobio je - Ivanišević. Tri puta po 2:0 i jednom, u Roland Garrosu, s 3:1. Počasni set za Amerikanca iz Alabame. Goranova mušterija.

"Shelton senior" je bio velika američka nada u studentskim godinama. Međutim, kao profesionalac nije napravio velike stvari, bolje od 55. mjesta na ATP listi nije mogao. Sin ga je, evo, već debelo nadmašio. Umirovio se kao igrač 1997. godine i nastavio karijeru kao trener. Dugo je vodio tenisačice srednje škole koju je i sam nekada pohađao, a zatim i tenisače Sveučilišta Florida, i to vrlo uspješno. A onda se odlučio posvetiti sinu Benu koji je od svih označen kao momak za prave stvari.

"Moj se tata danas povukao iz sveučilišnog treniranja. Čestitam na svemu što si postigao u te 24 godine. Tvoju karijeru ne određuju osvojena prvenstva i priznanja, već ljudi s kojima si to napravio i čije si živote promijenio. Za mladiće koji pokušavaju pronaći svoj put u životu od njega nema boljeg uzora", napisao je tada na svom Instagram profilu sin Ben i dodao: "Tim iz snova ponovno je na okupu, jedva čekam da vidim što možemo postići zajedno".

A mogu puno. Samo ove godine imaju četvrtfinale Australian Opena i (najmanje) polufinale US Opena, ulazak u Top 20. Ne zaboravite, Ben je tek napunio 20 godina.

Cijela obitelj Shelton s Floride je teniska. Geni se prenose generacijama. I Benova majka Lisa, rođena Witsken, je bila tenisačica. Jedna od osmero braće i sestara. Jedan od braće, Todd Witsken, bio je četvrti igrač svijeta u parovima. Na žalost, umro je već u 34. godini od raka mozga.

Tata, mama, ujak, svi tenisači. Aj pogodite, kojim se sportom bavi Benova sestra Emma? Da, pogodili ste.

Benov uspjeh je zapisan u genima. Živi i uživa najbolje dane karijere, američki je junak, igra polufinale Grand Slama na američkom tlu, nakrcao se i bodova i dolara i slave, ušao u Top 20.

Do "traga u beskraju" dijele da još samo dva koraka. Prvi, najveći, zove se Novak Đoković. Drugi je Goran Ivanišević. Igrač koji je uništavao karijeru Bryana Sheltona. Ben i Bryan protiv Novaka i Gorana. Ima tu i starih računa...

On je posljednji američki adut na posljednjem Grand Slam turniru sezone – u Americi. Na startu US Opena Amerikanci su nade vjerojatno usmjerili prema Tayloru Fritzu i Francesu Tiafoeu, Top 10 igračima, a neki su pogledavali i na dio ždrijeba u kojemu je Tommy Paul.

Ben Shelton? Malo tko. Nije bezveznjak, ali tek je napunio dvadeset i vrti se oko 47. mjesta. Nije etiketiran za velike stvari, ne još.

No, život često zna iznenaditi, sport pogotovo. Pa kakav bi svijet bio kad bi se sve znalo unaprijed!? Kad bi sve bilo ucrtano, programirano...

Sport nisu samo brojke, postoci, ‘renkinzi‘... Uvijek se, gotovo uvijek, dogodi i "ono nešto". Što sport čini lijepim, nepredvidljivim, uzbudljivim.

Ovaj put dogodio se - Ben Shelton. Odnosno, Shelton junior. Polufinalist US Opena, zadnji američki as iz rukava za napad na Novaka Đokovića na korak do velikog finala.

Pet pobjeda

Novi američki junak nanizao je pet velikih pobjeda na terenima Flushing Meadowsa, već sad osigurao Top 20 i, dakako, ranking karijere. Do sada je to bilo 35. mjesto najboljih reketa svijeta, nakon US Opena bit će najmanje 19.

Cijele SAD bit će uz Big Bena. Kontra Đokovića. Zanimljivo, u sjeni ovog dvoboja na terenu vodit će se i jedan na tribinama, odnosno u loži namijenjenoj sviti dvojice polufinalista. Naime, Benu je trener njegov otac Bryan, a Novaku naš Goran Ivanišević.

Bryan Shelton je bio aktivni tenisač krajem osamdesetih i većim dijelom devedesetih, u "Goranovo vrijeme". Igrali su četiri puta, sva četiri meča dobio je - Ivanišević. Tri puta po 2:0 i jednom, u Roland Garrosu, s 3:1. Počasni set za Amerikanca iz Alabame. Goranova mušterija.

"Shelton senior" je bio velika američka nada u studentskim godinama. Međutim, kao profesionalac nije napravio velike stvari, bolje od 55. mjesta na ATP listi nije mogao. Sin ga je, evo, već debelo nadmašio. Umirovio se kao igrač 1997. godine i nastavio karijeru kao trener. Dugo je vodio tenisačice srednje škole koju je i sam nekada pohađao, a zatim i tenisače Sveučilišta Florida, i to vrlo uspješno. A onda se odlučio posvetiti sinu Benu koji je od svih označen kao momak za prave stvari.

"Moj se tata danas povukao iz sveučilišnog treniranja. Čestitam na svemu što si postigao u te 24 godine. Tvoju karijeru ne određuju osvojena prvenstva i priznanja, već ljudi s kojima si to napravio i čije si živote promijenio. Za mladiće koji pokušavaju pronaći svoj put u životu od njega nema boljeg uzora", napisao je tada na svom Instagram profilu sin Ben i dodao: "Tim iz snova ponovno je na okupu, jedva čekam da vidim što možemo postići zajedno".

A mogu puno. Samo ove godine imaju četvrtfinale Australian Opena i (najmanje) polufinale US Opena, ulazak u Top 20. Ne zaboravite, Ben je tek napunio 20 godina.

Cijela obitelj Shelton s Floride je teniska. Geni se prenose generacijama. I Benova majka Lisa, rođena Witsken, je bila tenisačica. Jedna od osmero braće i sestara. Jedan od braće, Todd Witsken, bio je četvrti igrač svijeta u parovima. Na žalost, umro je već u 34. godini od raka mozga.

Tata, mama, ujak, svi tenisači. Aj pogodite, kojim se sportom bavi Benova sestra Emma? Da, pogodili ste.

Benov uspjeh je zapisan u genima. Živi i uživa najbolje dane karijere, američki je junak, igra polufinale Grand Slama na američkom tlu, nakrcao se i bodova i dolara i slave, ušao u Top 20.

Do "traga u beskraju" dijele da još samo dva koraka. Prvi, najveći, zove se Novak Đoković. Drugi je Goran Ivanišević. Igrač koji je uništavao karijeru Bryana Sheltona. Ben i Bryan protiv Novaka i Gorana. Ima tu i starih računa...
