Mirjana Lučić-Baroni je bila jedna od najboljih mladih tenisačica krajem prošlog stoljeća. Hrvatica je rođena 1982. u Dortmundu, a već 1998. je osvojila Australian Open u parovima s Martinom Hingis, kada je imala samo 15 godina, najmlađa tenisačica kojoj je to pošlo za rukom.

Još prije toga je osvojila turnir u Bolu 1997., prvi profesionalni turnir u kojemu je ikad sudjelovala, a godinu kasnije je obranila naslov, opet najmlađa koja je to uspjela.

Mirjana je bila teniska zvijezda sa svijetlom budućnosti, bilo joj je predodređeno da dominira teniskim svijetom, ali se onda oko 2000. godine iznenada povukla iz tenisa.

Naime, njen otac Marinko je bio nasilnik koji je zlostavljao Mirjanu i cijelu obitelj. Ona je u jednom trenutku smogla hrabrosti da se obrati Goranu Ivaniševiću, otkrila mu sve o nasilju i prijetnjama smrću kojeg trpe od oca Marinka.

Uz Goranovu pomoć Mirjana, njena majka, braće i sestre su se sakrili u blizini Zagreba gdje su čekale da im se odobri politički azil u SAD-u. Ubrzo su se pod oružanom pratnjom ukrcavale na avion za New York. 

- Goran mi je spasao život. Nikada mu to neću zaboraviti - rekla je Mirjana jednom prilikom. 

- Mislim da bi 98 posto ljudi na mom mjestu vjerojatno završilo na psihijatriji, jer kad te netko toliko zlostavlja s 15 godina, to ne može biti normalno. Ja sam se uspjela izvući, prije svega zahvaljujući svojoj majci, koja je vrlo jaka žena. Ona nas je držala zajedno. Sama ne bih preživjela - ispričala je.

Život u SAD-u je na početku bio težak, Mirjana je čak radila kao blagajnica na Floridi da prehrani obitelj, otac je obitelji uzeo sav novac. Ali s vremenom se uspjela stabilizirati i vratiti se tenisu. I to vrlo uspješno, 2014. je osvojila turnir u Quebecu, čime je postavila novi rekord. Najduži period između dvije titule (1998. - 2014.). Tri godine kasnije je opet oduševila, kada je došla do polufinala Australian Opena. Tenisa se zastalno ostavila 2018. nakon ozljede ramena.

Mirjana Lučić-Baroni je bila jedna od najboljih mladih tenisačica krajem prošlog stoljeća. Hrvatica je rođena 1982. u Dortmundu, a već 1998. je osvojila Australian Open u parovima s Martinom Hingis, kada je imala samo 15 godina, najmlađa tenisačica kojoj je to pošlo za rukom.

Još prije toga je osvojila turnir u Bolu 1997., prvi profesionalni turnir u kojemu je ikad sudjelovala, a godinu kasnije je obranila naslov, opet najmlađa koja je to uspjela.

Mirjana je bila teniska zvijezda sa svijetlom budućnosti, bilo joj je predodređeno da dominira teniskim svijetom, ali se onda oko 2000. godine iznenada povukla iz tenisa.

Naime, njen otac Marinko je bio nasilnik koji je zlostavljao Mirjanu i cijelu obitelj. Ona je u jednom trenutku smogla hrabrosti da se obrati Goranu Ivaniševiću, otkrila mu sve o nasilju i prijetnjama smrću kojeg trpe od oca Marinka.

Uz Goranovu pomoć Mirjana, njena majka, braće i sestre su se sakrili u blizini Zagreba gdje su čekale da im se odobri politički azil u SAD-u. Ubrzo su se pod oružanom pratnjom ukrcavale na avion za New York. 

- Goran mi je spasao život. Nikada mu to neću zaboraviti - rekla je Mirjana jednom prilikom. 

- Mislim da bi 98 posto ljudi na mom mjestu vjerojatno završilo na psihijatriji, jer kad te netko toliko zlostavlja s 15 godina, to ne može biti normalno. Ja sam se uspjela izvući, prije svega zahvaljujući svojoj majci, koja je vrlo jaka žena. Ona nas je držala zajedno. Sama ne bih preživjela - ispričala je.

Život u SAD-u je na početku bio težak, Mirjana je čak radila kao blagajnica na Floridi da prehrani obitelj, otac je obitelji uzeo sav novac. Ali s vremenom se uspjela stabilizirati i vratiti se tenisu. I to vrlo uspješno, 2014. je osvojila turnir u Quebecu, čime je postavila novi rekord. Najduži period između dvije titule (1998. - 2014.). Tri godine kasnije je opet oduševila, kada je došla do polufinala Australian Opena. Tenisa se zastalno ostavila 2018. nakon ozljede ramena.
