Nogometaši Hrvatske prije četiri godine nisu pobijedili u finalu Svjetskog prvenstva, no jedan igrač rođen u Istri bio je svjetski prvak 1950. godine s Urugvajem.

Ernesto Servolo Pedro Vidal, rođen u mjestu Buje, bio je dio momčadi koja je iznenađujuće slavila sa 2-1 protiv Brazila na stadionu Maracana.

Ulica u argentinskom gradu San Francisco, udaljenom 200 kilometara od Cordobe, nosi njegovo ime.

“Rođen u Italiji, danas bi bio Hrvat, odrastao u Argentini i postao svjetski prvak s Urugvajem”, ističe u naslovu argentinski portal Cielo Sports objavljujući priču o tom krilnom igraču uoči početka Svjetskog prvenstva u Kataru.

Ernesto Servolo Pedro Vidal, potomak Španjolaca u egzilu, rođen je 15. studenog 1921.u mjestu Buje koje je tada bilo pod Italijom, a danas je dio Hrvatske. U tom mjestu na poluotoku Istri sada živi 4.451 stanovnik.

Vidal se kao dječak preselio s obitelji u Argentinu i nastanio u gradu San Francisco na istoku zemlje. Počeo je igrati nogomet u klubu Sportivo Belgrano gdje je sa 15 godina debitirao u lokalnoj ligi.

Godine 1941. prešao je u poznatiji Rosario Central s kojim je ispao iz prve argentinske lige, pa se odmah iduće godine vratio nju. Klub je napustio nakon 53 odigrane utakmice uz 17 zabijenih golova.

Tada je odjenuo crno-žuti dres urugvajskog velikana Penarola gdje je bio dijelom legendarne momčadi u kojoj su bili Alcides Ghiggia, Oscar Miguez, Juan Alberto Schiaffino i Juan Eduardo Hohberg.

Dobio je zatim poziv u reprezentaciju Urugvaja premda nije imao urugvajsko državljanstvo.

Svjetska nogometna organizacija FIFA u to vrijeme nije uvjetovala da reprezentativci budu državljani tih zemalja. Urugvajski nogometni savez, kako bi se ipak osigurao, sredio je Vidalu urugvajsko državljanstvo.

Sve se to događalo dva tjedna uoči Svjetskog prvenstva u Brazilu. Nogometaš rođen u Bujama odigrao je tri od četiri utakmice na tom prvenstvu zabivši gol protiv Bolivije. No u onoj najvažinoj, finalnoj, nije nastupio zbog ozljede.

Urugvaj je u finalu pobijedio domaćina Brazil u Rio de Janeiru. Na tamošnjem stadionu Maracana okupilo se 173.800 gledatelja, što je ostala najveća posjeta nekoj utakmici svjetskog prvenstva.

Finalni dvoboj poznat pod imenom "Maracanazo" ostao je duboko utisnut u sjećanje Urugvaja, zemlje s 3,5 milijuna stanovnika kojoj je to bio drugi naslov nakon onog iz 1930.

Vidal je nakon 66 zabijenih golova i 15 osvojenih titula u Penarolu, otišao u talijansku Fiorentinu. Zadržao se dvije godine pa potpisao za tamošnju Pro Patriju, tada klub iz Serie A.

Zbog ozljeda se, međutim, nije naigrao pa se vratio u Urugvaj i nastupao za Nacional, drugog velikana te južnoameričke zemlje.

S navršenih 35 godina objesio je kopačke o klin. Vratio se u Argentinu, prvo u Rosario, a zatim se nastanio u San Franciscu.

Četiri sezone je bio trener u Sportivo Belgranu nakon čega je otvorio bar “Santa Rosa”.

Preminuo je 1974. u dobi od 52 godine.

Pokopan je na groblju u San Franciscu, gradu gdje danas živi oko 70.000 stanovnika. Lokalna ulica nazvana je njemu u čast.

U Bujama je pak 2019. godine lokalna turistička zajednica postavila spomen ploču. Jedna se nalazi na kući u starom gradu u kojoj je Vidal živio kao dijete, a druga je postavljena pored stadiona kluba NK Buje.

Nogometaši Hrvatske prije četiri godine nisu pobijedili u finalu Svjetskog prvenstva, no jedan igrač rođen u Istri bio je svjetski prvak 1950. godine s Urugvajem.

Ernesto Servolo Pedro Vidal, rođen u mjestu Buje, bio je dio momčadi koja je iznenađujuće slavila sa 2-1 protiv Brazila na stadionu Maracana.

Ulica u argentinskom gradu San Francisco, udaljenom 200 kilometara od Cordobe, nosi njegovo ime.

“Rođen u Italiji, danas bi bio Hrvat, odrastao u Argentini i postao svjetski prvak s Urugvajem”, ističe u naslovu argentinski portal Cielo Sports objavljujući priču o tom krilnom igraču uoči početka Svjetskog prvenstva u Kataru.

Ernesto Servolo Pedro Vidal, potomak Španjolaca u egzilu, rođen je 15. studenog 1921.u mjestu Buje koje je tada bilo pod Italijom, a danas je dio Hrvatske. U tom mjestu na poluotoku Istri sada živi 4.451 stanovnik.

Vidal se kao dječak preselio s obitelji u Argentinu i nastanio u gradu San Francisco na istoku zemlje. Počeo je igrati nogomet u klubu Sportivo Belgrano gdje je sa 15 godina debitirao u lokalnoj ligi.

Godine 1941. prešao je u poznatiji Rosario Central s kojim je ispao iz prve argentinske lige, pa se odmah iduće godine vratio nju. Klub je napustio nakon 53 odigrane utakmice uz 17 zabijenih golova.

Tada je odjenuo crno-žuti dres urugvajskog velikana Penarola gdje je bio dijelom legendarne momčadi u kojoj su bili Alcides Ghiggia, Oscar Miguez, Juan Alberto Schiaffino i Juan Eduardo Hohberg.

Dobio je zatim poziv u reprezentaciju Urugvaja premda nije imao urugvajsko državljanstvo.

Svjetska nogometna organizacija FIFA u to vrijeme nije uvjetovala da reprezentativci budu državljani tih zemalja. Urugvajski nogometni savez, kako bi se ipak osigurao, sredio je Vidalu urugvajsko državljanstvo.

Sve se to događalo dva tjedna uoči Svjetskog prvenstva u Brazilu. Nogometaš rođen u Bujama odigrao je tri od četiri utakmice na tom prvenstvu zabivši gol protiv Bolivije. No u onoj najvažinoj, finalnoj, nije nastupio zbog ozljede.

Urugvaj je u finalu pobijedio domaćina Brazil u Rio de Janeiru. Na tamošnjem stadionu Maracana okupilo se 173.800 gledatelja, što je ostala najveća posjeta nekoj utakmici svjetskog prvenstva.

Finalni dvoboj poznat pod imenom "Maracanazo" ostao je duboko utisnut u sjećanje Urugvaja, zemlje s 3,5 milijuna stanovnika kojoj je to bio drugi naslov nakon onog iz 1930.

Vidal je nakon 66 zabijenih golova i 15 osvojenih titula u Penarolu, otišao u talijansku Fiorentinu. Zadržao se dvije godine pa potpisao za tamošnju Pro Patriju, tada klub iz Serie A.

Zbog ozljeda se, međutim, nije naigrao pa se vratio u Urugvaj i nastupao za Nacional, drugog velikana te južnoameričke zemlje.

S navršenih 35 godina objesio je kopačke o klin. Vratio se u Argentinu, prvo u Rosario, a zatim se nastanio u San Franciscu.

Četiri sezone je bio trener u Sportivo Belgranu nakon čega je otvorio bar “Santa Rosa”.

Preminuo je 1974. u dobi od 52 godine.

Pokopan je na groblju u San Franciscu, gradu gdje danas živi oko 70.000 stanovnika. Lokalna ulica nazvana je njemu u čast.

U Bujama je pak 2019. godine lokalna turistička zajednica postavila spomen ploču. Jedna se nalazi na kući u starom gradu u kojoj je Vidal živio kao dijete, a druga je postavljena pored stadiona kluba NK Buje.

Nogometaši Hrvatske prije četiri godine nisu pobijedili u finalu Svjetskog prvenstva, no jedan igrač rođen u Istri bio je svjetski prvak 1950. godine s Urugvajem.

Ernesto Servolo Pedro Vidal, rođen u mjestu Buje, bio je dio momčadi koja je iznenađujuće slavila sa 2-1 protiv Brazila na stadionu Maracana.

Ulica u argentinskom gradu San Francisco, udaljenom 200 kilometara od Cordobe, nosi njegovo ime.

“Rođen u Italiji, danas bi bio Hrvat, odrastao u Argentini i postao svjetski prvak s Urugvajem”, ističe u naslovu argentinski portal Cielo Sports objavljujući priču o tom krilnom igraču uoči početka Svjetskog prvenstva u Kataru.
