Prije samo dvije sezone obojica su igrali za tadašnjeg drugoligaša Kaštela, a sada su u NBA-u! To su Dragan Bender i Ante Toni Žižić, a pritom je Bender ispisao povijest postavši najviši hrvatski "pick" na draftu.
Kao četvrtog u prvoj rundi pod svoje su ga okrilje uzeli Phoenix Sunsi. Ispunile su se tako prognoze koje su Bendera uglavnom svrstavale u top 5, pa je tako osamnaestogodišnji Čapljinac oborio lanjski rekord Marija Hezonje kojeg je Orlando Magic odabrao kao petog.
- Naporan se rad isplati, osjećaj je sjajan. Dugoročno je dobro što Phoenix ima dosta mladih momaka. Radujem se treninzima, želim pokazati na parketu što mogu. Vjerujem da će spoj nas par mladih igrača i onih starijih biti dobra kombinacija - bili su prvi dojmovi Bendera koji stiže iz izraelskog giganta Maccabija iz Tel Aviva.
Sunsi ove sezone nisu izborili doigravanje, s omjerom pobjeda i poraza 23-59 bili su pretposljednji na Zapadu. Trenutno nemaju baš kompetitivnu momčad, već mladu i u stvaranju. Pritom su i tanki pod koševima, pa bi Bender mogao dobiti solidnu minutažu.
Ovime je Benderu zagarantiran dvogodišnji ugovor po kojemu bi trebao dobiti ukupno oko 8,7 milijuna dolara. Odšteta Maccabiju trebala bi iznositi oko 1,3 milijuna dolara, s tim da će polovicu pokriti Sunsi, a polovicu Bender iz svog "rookie" ugovora.
Sunsi u Benderu vide modernog igrača za kojeg vjeruju da im može pomoći na poziciji krila, krilnog centra i centra. Uspoređuju ga s Kristapsom Porzingisom koji je lani kao četvrti odabran od strane New York Knicksa, a ove je sezone bio drugi najbolji "rookie" godine.
- Dragan ima visinu, široki raspon ruku, dobra dodavanja te kretanje kakvo je rijetko i jedinstveno. Ima čaroban osjećaj s loptom, poseban je igrač - kaže generalni menadžer Sunsa Ryan McDonough. Sunsi su Bendera pratili intenzivno od 2014. godine, a na njih je odličan dojam ostavio i na "workoutovima" prije drafta.
S druge strane, o Žižiću (19) se "preko bare" puno manje zna. Omiški se centar prošle sezone prometnuo u glavnog igrača Cibone. Redovito je bilježio "double-double" učinke, baš je dominirao u reketu te je bio jedan od najboljih igrača ABA lige. Celticsi su ga uzeli kao 23., a po dvogodišnjem bi mu ugovoru trebalo pripasti oko 2,8 milijuna dolara.
Međutim, Celticsi imaju solidnu i dobro popunjenu momčad pa bi mogli vratiti Žižića u Europu kako bi se dodatno razvio i očvrsnuo. Na njega ozbiljno računaju u godinama što dolaze, nadaju se da bi mogao stopama Dina Rađe koji je u Bostonu ostavio zapaženi trag.
I Žižić i Bender još su daleko od gotovih igrača, u prvom redu moraju napredovati fizički, ali obojica su izuzetno daroviti, imaju vanserijsku volju za radom te djeluju stabilni u glavi. Sve preduvjete za vrhunske karijere imaju, samo je pitanje hoće li se poklopiti baš sve kockice.
Isto vrijedi i za Mostarca Ivicu Zupca (19) kojeg su Los Angeles Lakersi odabrali kao 32. Centar srpskog Mega Leksa izabran je u drugoj rundi što znači da nema zajamčen ugovor poput Bendera i Žižića.

Prije samo dvije sezone obojica su igrali za tadašnjeg drugoligaša Kaštela, a sada su u NBA-u! To su Dragan Bender i Ante Toni Žižić, a pritom je Bender ispisao povijest postavši najviši hrvatski "pick" na draftu.
Kao četvrtog u prvoj rundi pod svoje su ga okrilje uzeli Phoenix Sunsi. Ispunile su se tako prognoze koje su Bendera uglavnom svrstavale u top 5, pa je tako osamnaestogodišnji Čapljinac oborio lanjski rekord Marija Hezonje kojeg je Orlando Magic odabrao kao petog.
- Naporan se rad isplati, osjećaj je sjajan. Dugoročno je dobro što Phoenix ima dosta mladih momaka. Radujem se treninzima, želim pokazati na parketu što mogu. Vjerujem da će spoj nas par mladih igrača i onih starijih biti dobra kombinacija - bili su prvi dojmovi Bendera koji stiže iz izraelskog giganta Maccabija iz Tel Aviva.
Sunsi ove sezone nisu izborili doigravanje, s omjerom pobjeda i poraza 23-59 bili su pretposljednji na Zapadu. Trenutno nemaju baš kompetitivnu momčad, već mladu i u stvaranju. Pritom su i tanki pod koševima, pa bi Bender mogao dobiti solidnu minutažu.
Ovime je Benderu zagarantiran dvogodišnji ugovor po kojemu bi trebao dobiti ukupno oko 8,7 milijuna dolara. Odšteta Maccabiju trebala bi iznositi oko 1,3 milijuna dolara, s tim da će polovicu pokriti Sunsi, a polovicu Bender iz svog "rookie" ugovora.
Sunsi u Benderu vide modernog igrača za kojeg vjeruju da im može pomoći na poziciji krila, krilnog centra i centra. Uspoređuju ga s Kristapsom Porzingisom koji je lani kao četvrti odabran od strane New York Knicksa, a ove je sezone bio drugi najbolji "rookie" godine.
- Dragan ima visinu, široki raspon ruku, dobra dodavanja te kretanje kakvo je rijetko i jedinstveno. Ima čaroban osjećaj s loptom, poseban je igrač - kaže generalni menadžer Sunsa Ryan McDonough. Sunsi su Bendera pratili intenzivno od 2014. godine, a na njih je odličan dojam ostavio i na "workoutovima" prije drafta.
S druge strane, o Žižiću (19) se "preko bare" puno manje zna. Omiški se centar prošle sezone prometnuo u glavnog igrača Cibone. Redovito je bilježio "double-double" učinke, baš je dominirao u reketu te je bio jedan od najboljih igrača ABA lige. Celticsi su ga uzeli kao 23., a po dvogodišnjem bi mu ugovoru trebalo pripasti oko 2,8 milijuna dolara.
Međutim, Celticsi imaju solidnu i dobro popunjenu momčad pa bi mogli vratiti Žižića u Europu kako bi se dodatno razvio i očvrsnuo. Na njega ozbiljno računaju u godinama što dolaze, nadaju se da bi mogao stopama Dina Rađe koji je u Bostonu ostavio zapaženi trag.
I Žižić i Bender još su daleko od gotovih igrača, u prvom redu moraju napredovati fizički, ali obojica su izuzetno daroviti, imaju vanserijsku volju za radom te djeluju stabilni u glavi. Sve preduvjete za vrhunske karijere imaju, samo je pitanje hoće li se poklopiti baš sve kockice.
Isto vrijedi i za Mostarca Ivicu Zupca (19) kojeg su Los Angeles Lakersi odabrali kao 32. Centar srpskog Mega Leksa izabran je u drugoj rundi što znači da nema zajamčen ugovor poput Bendera i Žižića.
