Trench, riječ engleskog podrijetla koja se i kod nas udomaćila, označava specifičnu vrstu kabanice vojničkog stila. Kao i mnogi drugi odjevni predmeti vojnog podrijetla, i ovaj je lako i uspješno prešao s ratne fronte u svakodnevnu upotrebu.
Davne 1901. Thomas Burberry, izumitelj gabardina, vodootporne tkanine od koje je trench izrađen, predložio je vojnom uredu Velike Britanije prvi nacrt sada tako popularnog odjevnog predmeta.

Prvog svjetskog rata. U to vrijeme smjeli su ga nositi samo časnici višeg ranga.
Zbog praktičnosti i komotnosti ubrzo ga preuzimaju i avanturisti, zaljubljenici u motorističke utrke.
Iako korišten i u Drugom svjetskom ratu, trench polako gubi svoju ulogu u svijetu vojne odjeće; zamjenjuju ga tehnološki napredniji i praktičniji odjevni predmeti.
Nisu mu odoljeli ni Greta Garbo ni Humphrey Bogart
Za razliku od njegove sudbine u vojsci, u svakodnevnom životu tek počinje njegov pravi život.
U četrdesetim godinama Greta Garbo je stvorila sliku suvremene žene noseći trench. Humphrey Bogart nosio ga je u Casablanci.
Premda je u pedesetima bio opće prihvaćen odjevni predmet, slobodne šezdesete ga nisu odbacile. Samo su ga prilagodile vremenu.

Simbol emancipacije
U sedamdesetima prihvatile su ga emancipirane žene koje su svoju ravnopravnost u uredu i svakodnevnom životu naglašavale ovim odjevnim predmetom oficirskog porijekla.
U devedesetima trench postaje pravi modni predmet, dizajneri kao Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld i Christopher Bailey predstavljaju novi trench u različitim oblicima i materijalima.
Postupno je ušao i na revije visoke mode te tako simbolično postao ne samo funkcionalan nego i šik odjevni predmet.

Ipak upravo je njegova neopisiva praktičnost, koja proizlazi iz njegova vojnog podrijetla, zaslužna što već više od stoljeća trench egzistira kao uvijek aktualan odjevni predmet.
Baš zato uvijek izlazi na vidjelo u prijelaznim sezonama, kad vrijeme nije stabilno i uvijek može zaskočiti kiša.
Dizajneri muške i ženske odjeće ponudili su svoje varijante. Uz tradicionalne boje, upadaju u oko i oni veselijih tonova koji će privući mlađe ljude, sklonije praćenju trendova.
Tako je trench, stalno se obnavljajući, ali i istodobno pozivajući se na svoje korijene, preživio cijelo stoljeće zahvaljujući osjećaju snage koji daje svakom tko ga odjene.

Trench, riječ engleskog podrijetla koja se i kod nas udomaćila, označava specifičnu vrstu kabanice vojničkog stila. Kao i mnogi drugi odjevni predmeti vojnog podrijetla, i ovaj je lako i uspješno prešao s ratne fronte u svakodnevnu upotrebu.
Davne 1901. Thomas Burberry, izumitelj gabardina, vodootporne tkanine od koje je trench izrađen, predložio je vojnom uredu Velike Britanije prvi nacrt sada tako popularnog odjevnog predmeta.
Trench coat ili trenčkot?
Samo ime “trench coat” ili, kako ga Klaić navodi, “trenčkot”, dobio je za vrijeme

Prvog svjetskog rata. U to vrijeme smjeli su ga nositi samo časnici višeg ranga.
Zbog praktičnosti i komotnosti ubrzo ga preuzimaju i avanturisti, zaljubljenici u motorističke utrke.
Iako korišten i u Drugom svjetskom ratu, trench polako gubi svoju ulogu u svijetu vojne odjeće; zamjenjuju ga tehnološki napredniji i praktičniji odjevni predmeti.
Nisu mu odoljeli ni Greta Garbo ni Humphrey Bogart
Za razliku od njegove sudbine u vojsci, u svakodnevnom životu tek počinje njegov pravi život.
U četrdesetim godinama Greta Garbo je stvorila sliku suvremene žene noseći trench. Humphrey Bogart nosio ga je u Casablanci.
Premda je u pedesetima bio opće prihvaćen odjevni predmet, slobodne šezdesete ga nisu odbacile. Samo su ga prilagodile vremenu.

Simbol emancipacije
U sedamdesetima prihvatile su ga emancipirane žene koje su svoju ravnopravnost u uredu i svakodnevnom životu naglašavale ovim odjevnim predmetom oficirskog porijekla.
U devedesetima trench postaje pravi modni predmet, dizajneri kao Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld i Christopher Bailey predstavljaju novi trench u različitim oblicima i materijalima.
Postupno je ušao i na revije visoke mode te tako simbolično postao ne samo funkcionalan nego i šik odjevni predmet.

Ipak upravo je njegova neopisiva praktičnost, koja proizlazi iz njegova vojnog podrijetla, zaslužna što već više od stoljeća trench egzistira kao uvijek aktualan odjevni predmet.
Baš zato uvijek izlazi na vidjelo u prijelaznim sezonama, kad vrijeme nije stabilno i uvijek može zaskočiti kiša.
Dizajneri muške i ženske odjeće ponudili su svoje varijante. Uz tradicionalne boje, upadaju u oko i oni veselijih tonova koji će privući mlađe ljude, sklonije praćenju trendova.
Tako je trench, stalno se obnavljajući, ali i istodobno pozivajući se na svoje korijene, preživio cijelo stoljeće zahvaljujući osjećaju snage koji daje svakom tko ga odjene.
