Nuđenje psihološke podrške starijim osobama putem telefona moglo bi pomoći u smanjenju depresije i usamljenosti, pokazuje nova studija. Britanski znanstvenici su objavili da su ljudi koji su imali neku vrstu terapije, putem tjednog telefonskog poziva tijekom osam tjedana, pokazali poboljšanja u mentalnom zdravlju.
Studija, koju su vodili znanstvenici s britanskog Sveučilišta York, Medicinskog fakulteta Hull York i Zaklade Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust pratila je takvo liječenje pacijenata regrutiranih iz ordinacija liječnika opće prakse diljem Engleske i Walesa. 218 je dobilo tretman "aktivacije ponašanja", a 217 ljudi je primilo "uobičajenu skrb".
Tretman bihevioralne aktivacije je psihološka terapija koja istražuje kako su neaktivnost i loše raspoloženje povezani. Terapeut i pacijent zajedno rade na izradi plana liječenja kako bi potaknuli pacijente da sudjeluju u "smislenijim aktivnostima", uključujući održavanje društvenih veza i održavanje aktivnosti.

Ljudi uključeni u studiju imali su prosječnu dob od 76 godina. Znanstvenici su koristili standardizirane testove za mjerenje razine depresije, anksioznosti i usamljenosti kod ljudi koji su sudjelovali u studiji. Razina depresije značajno je pala u skupini koja je primala terapiju u usporedbi s grupom koja nije.
Znanstvenici su također otkrili da su oni koji su primili psihološku podršku bili manje skloni prijaviti "emocionalnu usamljenost". Ali nije bilo dokaza o razlici u "društvenoj usamljenosti".
Nije bilo značajnih razlika između skupina u pogledu anksioznosti ili u pogledu "kvalitete života povezane sa zdravljem", dodali su.
Međutim znanstvenici su zaključili: “Bihevioralna aktivacija je učinkovita intervencija koja može smanjiti simptome depresije i emocionalne usamljenosti u rizičnim skupinama".

Međutim, znanstvenici su rekli da otkrića imaju implikacije izvan okvira pandemije na smanjenje broja ljudi koji su depresivni i da pomažu u rješavanju utjecaja usamljenosti.
"Usamljenost izvlači životnu radost za previše starijih ljudi, stoga je stvarno ohrabrujuće vidjeti rezultate ove studije", rekla je Caroline Abrahams, direktorica dobrotvorne organizacije Age UK.
"Jedan od razloga zašto je ova studija važna je taj što je lako biti fatalist u pogledu usamljenosti u kasnijem životu i misliti da se ništa ne može učiniti da se to riješi, ali ovi nalazi pokazuju da to nije tako."

Nuđenje psihološke podrške starijim osobama putem telefona moglo bi pomoći u smanjenju depresije i usamljenosti, pokazuje nova studija. Britanski znanstvenici su objavili da su ljudi koji su imali neku vrstu terapije, putem tjednog telefonskog poziva tijekom osam tjedana, pokazali poboljšanja u mentalnom zdravlju.
Studija, koju su vodili znanstvenici s britanskog Sveučilišta York, Medicinskog fakulteta Hull York i Zaklade Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust pratila je takvo liječenje pacijenata regrutiranih iz ordinacija liječnika opće prakse diljem Engleske i Walesa. 218 je dobilo tretman "aktivacije ponašanja", a 217 ljudi je primilo "uobičajenu skrb".
Tretman bihevioralne aktivacije je psihološka terapija koja istražuje kako su neaktivnost i loše raspoloženje povezani. Terapeut i pacijent zajedno rade na izradi plana liječenja kako bi potaknuli pacijente da sudjeluju u "smislenijim aktivnostima", uključujući održavanje društvenih veza i održavanje aktivnosti.

Ljudi uključeni u studiju imali su prosječnu dob od 76 godina. Znanstvenici su koristili standardizirane testove za mjerenje razine depresije, anksioznosti i usamljenosti kod ljudi koji su sudjelovali u studiji. Razina depresije značajno je pala u skupini koja je primala terapiju u usporedbi s grupom koja nije.
Znanstvenici su također otkrili da su oni koji su primili psihološku podršku bili manje skloni prijaviti "emocionalnu usamljenost". Ali nije bilo dokaza o razlici u "društvenoj usamljenosti".
Nije bilo značajnih razlika između skupina u pogledu anksioznosti ili u pogledu "kvalitete života povezane sa zdravljem", dodali su.
Međutim znanstvenici su zaključili: “Bihevioralna aktivacija je učinkovita intervencija koja može smanjiti simptome depresije i emocionalne usamljenosti u rizičnim skupinama".
Znanstvenici su dodali: "Rezultati ovog ispitivanja pridodaju mogućnosti nizu strategija za poboljšanje mentalnog zdravlja starijih osoba s višestrukim dugotrajnim stanjima."
Studija, koja je provedena između veljače 2021. i veljače 2022., imala je za cilj poboljšati skrb za ljude koji su bili društveno izolirani kao posljedica pandemije Covid-19.

Međutim, znanstvenici su rekli da otkrića imaju implikacije izvan okvira pandemije na smanjenje broja ljudi koji su depresivni i da pomažu u rješavanju utjecaja usamljenosti.
"Usamljenost izvlači životnu radost za previše starijih ljudi, stoga je stvarno ohrabrujuće vidjeti rezultate ove studije", rekla je Caroline Abrahams, direktorica dobrotvorne organizacije Age UK.
"Jedan od razloga zašto je ova studija važna je taj što je lako biti fatalist u pogledu usamljenosti u kasnijem životu i misliti da se ništa ne može učiniti da se to riješi, ali ovi nalazi pokazuju da to nije tako."
Rad je objavljen u časopisu The Lancet Healthy Longevity.
