Dok su zdravstveni sustavi diljem svijeta bili fokusirani na koronavirus, brojne su bolesti pale u drugi plan jer ljudi nisu dolazili na preventivne i zakazane preglede.

Posljedice pandemije koronavirusa, kao i mjera povezanih s njom, mogle bi se osjećati godinama. Na jedan od takvih problema o kojem se, djelomično i zbog pandemije nije toliko govorilo, u posljednje vrijeme upozoravaju zdravstveni djelatnici u SAD-u.

Riječ je o sifilisu, spolno prenosivoj bolesti koju uzrokuje bakterija treponema pallidum, a čije su brojke u SAD-u najveće u posljednjih 30 godina, piše portal Zimo.

Prema preliminarnim podacima Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), broj slučajeva zaraze sifilisom prošle je godine porastao za čak 27 posto, na više od 171 tisuću. Također, u porastu je kongenitalni sifilis, koji utječe na dojenčad rođenu od zaraženih majki te je zabilježeno oko 2700 takvih slučajeva, dok ih 2012. u SAD- bilo 334. Takav oblik sifilisa može imati grozne posljedice – od mrtvorođenčadi do deformacije kostiju, žutice, sljepoće i gluhoće novorođenčadi.

Jedan od problema vezanih uz ovu bolest, za koju mnogi misle da je iskorijenjena, jest što sifilis može imitirati druge infekcije tako da dio ljudi niti ne zna da su zaraženi. Do prvih simptoma bolesti dolazi oko 3 tjedna nakon seksualnog kontakta sa zaraženim osobama, a uključuju konkavne ranice na genitalijama ili u ustima. Takve rane mogu trajati 3 do 6 tjedana i nestaju čak i bez terapije, no čak i nekoliko tjedana nakon što počnu nestajati, ljudi su i dalje zaraženi.

Nakon toga slijedi druga faza koja uključuje osip na rukama i nogama, a simptomi mogu biti i visoka temperatura, natečene limfne žlijezde, grlobolja, glavobolja, umor itd., a ako se i dalje ne primjenjuje terapija, može doći do treće faze. U toj fazi ljudi više nisu zarazni, no i dalje im prijeti velika opasnost i može se pojaviti tjednima ili čak godinama nakon zaraze. Ona može rezultirati oštećenjem organa, problemima sa srcem, gubitkom vida i sluha, ali i s najgorim ishodom – smrću.

Što se liječenja tiče, obično se tretira s jednom ili više injekcija penicilina ili, za one alergične na njega, s nekom drugom vrstom antibiotika. Cjepivo za sifilis ne postoji, iako se ono istražuje.

Razlog za ovakve, možemo ih nazvati i alarmantne brojke, leži u nekoliko faktora. Stručnjaci s kojima su razgovarali novinari Washington Posta prvenstveno upozoravaju na manje korištenje prezervativa, ali i na porast korištenja opioida i metamfetamina, čija je uzimanje povezano s rizičnim seksualnim ponašanjem. Također, dok su se početkom stoljeća vodile kampanje čiji je cilj bio iskorijeniti sifilis, s vremenom su državna sredstva presušila, a mnoge su klinike u gradovima diljem SAD-a zatvorile svoja vrata.

“Otelo se kontroli. To je grozno. Imamo veliki problem”, komentirao je Matthew Golden, profesor na centru za AIDS i spolno prenosive bolesti Sveučilišta u Washingtonu trenutačnu situacija s velikim povećanjem seksualno prenosivih bolesti u SAD-u, piše Zimo.

Dok su zdravstveni sustavi diljem svijeta bili fokusirani na koronavirus, brojne su bolesti pale u drugi plan jer ljudi nisu dolazili na preventivne i zakazane preglede.

Posljedice pandemije koronavirusa, kao i mjera povezanih s njom, mogle bi se osjećati godinama. Na jedan od takvih problema o kojem se, djelomično i zbog pandemije nije toliko govorilo, u posljednje vrijeme upozoravaju zdravstveni djelatnici u SAD-u.

Riječ je o sifilisu, spolno prenosivoj bolesti koju uzrokuje bakterija treponema pallidum, a čije su brojke u SAD-u najveće u posljednjih 30 godina, piše portal Zimo.

Prema preliminarnim podacima Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), broj slučajeva zaraze sifilisom prošle je godine porastao za čak 27 posto, na više od 171 tisuću. Također, u porastu je kongenitalni sifilis, koji utječe na dojenčad rođenu od zaraženih majki te je zabilježeno oko 2700 takvih slučajeva, dok ih 2012. u SAD- bilo 334. Takav oblik sifilisa može imati grozne posljedice – od mrtvorođenčadi do deformacije kostiju, žutice, sljepoće i gluhoće novorođenčadi.

Jedan od problema vezanih uz ovu bolest, za koju mnogi misle da je iskorijenjena, jest što sifilis može imitirati druge infekcije tako da dio ljudi niti ne zna da su zaraženi. Do prvih simptoma bolesti dolazi oko 3 tjedna nakon seksualnog kontakta sa zaraženim osobama, a uključuju konkavne ranice na genitalijama ili u ustima. Takve rane mogu trajati 3 do 6 tjedana i nestaju čak i bez terapije, no čak i nekoliko tjedana nakon što počnu nestajati, ljudi su i dalje zaraženi.

Nakon toga slijedi druga faza koja uključuje osip na rukama i nogama, a simptomi mogu biti i visoka temperatura, natečene limfne žlijezde, grlobolja, glavobolja, umor itd., a ako se i dalje ne primjenjuje terapija, može doći do treće faze. U toj fazi ljudi više nisu zarazni, no i dalje im prijeti velika opasnost i može se pojaviti tjednima ili čak godinama nakon zaraze. Ona može rezultirati oštećenjem organa, problemima sa srcem, gubitkom vida i sluha, ali i s najgorim ishodom – smrću.

Što se liječenja tiče, obično se tretira s jednom ili više injekcija penicilina ili, za one alergične na njega, s nekom drugom vrstom antibiotika. Cjepivo za sifilis ne postoji, iako se ono istražuje.

Razlog za ovakve, možemo ih nazvati i alarmantne brojke, leži u nekoliko faktora. Stručnjaci s kojima su razgovarali novinari Washington Posta prvenstveno upozoravaju na manje korištenje prezervativa, ali i na porast korištenja opioida i metamfetamina, čija je uzimanje povezano s rizičnim seksualnim ponašanjem. Također, dok su se početkom stoljeća vodile kampanje čiji je cilj bio iskorijeniti sifilis, s vremenom su državna sredstva presušila, a mnoge su klinike u gradovima diljem SAD-a zatvorile svoja vrata.

“Otelo se kontroli. To je grozno. Imamo veliki problem”, komentirao je Matthew Golden, profesor na centru za AIDS i spolno prenosive bolesti Sveučilišta u Washingtonu trenutačnu situacija s velikim povećanjem seksualno prenosivih bolesti u SAD-u, piše Zimo.

Dok su zdravstveni sustavi diljem svijeta bili fokusirani na koronavirus, brojne su bolesti pale u drugi plan jer ljudi nisu dolazili na preventivne i zakazane preglede.

Posljedice pandemije koronavirusa, kao i mjera povezanih s njom, mogle bi se osjećati godinama. Na jedan od takvih problema o kojem se, djelomično i zbog pandemije nije toliko govorilo, u posljednje vrijeme upozoravaju zdravstveni djelatnici u SAD-u.

Riječ je o sifilisu, spolno prenosivoj bolesti koju uzrokuje bakterija treponema pallidum, a čije su brojke u SAD-u najveće u posljednjih 30 godina, piše portal Zimo.

Prema preliminarnim podacima Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), broj slučajeva zaraze sifilisom prošle je godine porastao za čak 27 posto, na više od 171 tisuću. Također, u porastu je kongenital...
