Glaukom je kronična i progresivna bolest očnog živca koja rezultira propadanjem vidnog polja i gubitkom vidne funkcije. Smatra se glavnim uzrokom sljepoće, ako se ne liječi, a prema podacima oko dva do pet posto stanovništva ima glaukom. Obično ne pokazuje simptome, a iako se glaukom može pojaviti kod bilo koga, rizični su čimbenici za njegov nastanak pozitivno obiteljsko naslijeđe, dob iznad 40 godina, visoka kratkovidnost, šećerna bolest i povišeni krvni tlak (hipertenzija). Upravo te dvije bolesti smatraju se, prema novoj studiji, prediktorima rane faze glaukoma, piše Živim.

Naime, novo istraživanje; objavljeno u časopisu Clinical Ophthalmology medicinskog centra UT Southwestern; otkrilo je da rani razvoj dijabetesa tipa 2 ili visokog krvnog tlaka može ukazivati na rani početak glaukoma jer, između ostalog, ta stanja utječu na krvne žile optičkog živca i mrežnice.

Iako je potrebno više istraživanja prije nego što se može izvući bilo kakva uzročno-posljedična veza između dijabetesa, hipertenzije i glaukoma, osobama s dijabetesom i hipertenzijom savjetuje se svakako izmjeriti očni tlak i učiniti pregled oštećenja mrežnice (sama vrijednost očnog tlaka nije dovoljna za postavljanje dijagnoze).

Glaukom ima tendenciju da se polako razvija tijekom godina i prvo utječe na rubove vida (periferni vid). Zato mnogi ljudi ne shvaćaju da imaju glaukom, sve dok ga ne otkriju tijekom rutinskog testa oka. Ako primijetite bilo kakve simptome, koji mogu uključivati zamagljen vid ili krugove u duginim bojama oko jakih svjetala, najbolje bi bilo odmah posjetiti oftalmologa.

Simptomi glaukoma

Iako glaukom u ranoj fazi obično ne pokazuje simptome, nakon što se bolest razvije prate je ovi znakovi:

- intenzivna bol u očima

- mučnina

- povraćanje

- crvenilo oka

- glavobolja

- osjetljivost očiju

- prstenovi oko svjetla

- zamagljen vid.

Može li se glaukom liječiti

Glaukom se mora liječiti, ali nije moguće preokrenuti bilo kakvu štetu koja je već nastala na oku. Što se kasnije bolest dijagnosticira, to se manje može sačuvati ono što je ostalo od vida.

Postoje tri vrste liječenja: kapi za oči, lasersko liječenje i operacija. Kapi za oči pomažu smanjiti pritisak na oči i omogućuju im da se u većoj mjeri odmore, dok lasersko liječenje može pomoći u otvaranju blokiranih drenažnih cijevi ili smanjenju proizvodnje tekućine u očima uzrokovane glaukomom. Kirurška operacija će se savjetovati kako bi se poboljšala drenaža tekućine u cilju smanjenja pritiska na oko i kako bi se pokušalo smanjiti širenje glaukoma, piše Živim.

Glaukom je kronična i progresivna bolest očnog živca koja rezultira propadanjem vidnog polja i gubitkom vidne funkcije. Smatra se glavnim uzrokom sljepoće, ako se ne liječi, a prema podacima oko dva do pet posto stanovništva ima glaukom. Obično ne pokazuje simptome, a iako se glaukom može pojaviti kod bilo koga, rizični su čimbenici za njegov nastanak pozitivno obiteljsko naslijeđe, dob iznad 40 godina, visoka kratkovidnost, šećerna bolest i povišeni krvni tlak (hipertenzija). Upravo te dvije bolesti smatraju se, prema novoj studiji, prediktorima rane faze glaukoma, piše Živim.

Naime, novo istraživanje; objavljeno u časopisu Clinical Ophthalmology medicinskog centra UT Southwestern; otkrilo je da rani razvoj dijabetesa tipa 2 ili visokog krvnog tlaka može ukazivati na rani početak glaukoma jer, između ostalog, ta stanja utječu na krvne žile optičkog živca i mrežnice.

Iako je potrebno više istraživanja prije nego što se može izvući bilo kakva uzročno-posljedična veza između dijabetesa, hipertenzije i glaukoma, osobama s dijabetesom i hipertenzijom savjetuje se svakako izmjeriti očni tlak i učiniti pregled oštećenja mrežnice (sama vrijednost očnog tlaka nije dovoljna za postavljanje dijagnoze).

Glaukom ima tendenciju da se polako razvija tijekom godina i prvo utječe na rubove vida (periferni vid). Zato mnogi ljudi ne shvaćaju da imaju glaukom, sve dok ga ne otkriju tijekom rutinskog testa oka. Ako primijetite bilo kakve simptome, koji mogu uključivati zamagljen vid ili krugove u duginim bojama oko jakih svjetala, najbolje bi bilo odmah posjetiti oftalmologa.

Iako glaukom u ranoj fazi obično ne pokazuje simptome, nakon što se bolest razvije prate je ovi znakovi:

- intenzivna bol u očima

- mučnina

- povraćanje

- crvenilo oka

- glavobolja

- osjetljivost očiju

- prstenovi oko svjetla

- zamagljen vid.

Može li se glaukom liječiti

Glaukom se mora liječiti, ali nije moguće preokrenuti bilo kakvu štetu koja je već nastala na oku. Što se kasnije bolest dijagnosticira, to se manje može sačuvati ono što je ostalo od vida.

Postoje tri vrste liječenja: kapi za oči, lasersko liječenje i operacija. Kapi za oči pomažu smanjiti pritisak na oči i omogućuju im da se u većoj mjeri odmore, dok lasersko liječenje može pomoći u otvaranju blokiranih drenažnih cijevi ili smanjenju proizvodnje tekućine u očima uzrokovane glaukomom. Kirurška operacija će se savjetovati kako bi se poboljšala drenaža tekućine u cilju smanjenja pritiska na oko i kako bi se pokušalo smanjiti širenje glaukoma, piše Živim.

Nova studija upozorava na dva znaka koja bi mogla predvidjeti rani početak glaukoma

Glaukom je kronična i progresivna bolest očnog živca koja rezultira propadanjem vidnog polja i gubitkom vidne funkcije. Smatra se glavnim uzrokom sljepoće, ako se ne liječi, a prema podacima oko dva do pet posto stanovništva ima glaukom. Obično ne pokazuje simptome, a iako se glaukom može pojaviti kod bilo koga, rizični su čimbenici za njegov nastanak pozitivno obiteljsko naslijeđe, dob iznad 40 godina, visoka kratkovidnost, šećerna bolest i povišeni krvni tlak (hipertenzija). Upravo te dvije bolesti smatraju se, prema novoj studiji, prediktorima rane faze glaukoma, piše Živim.
