Popeo se na jarbol broda koji nas je vozio od Hvara do Visa. Gledajući ga kako se jednom rukom drži na tom neopisivo visokom jarbolu, shvatila sam da je to čovjek koji se ne boji. Konačno, rekla sam u sebi. Moji dotadašnji susreti s osobama suprotnog spola uglavnom su bili susreti s potpuno isprepadanim muškarcima. Panični strah od žena je ujedno i izvor nasilja prema ženama koje obilježava ove prostore. Taj strah i ta mržnja koja iz njega proizlazi također su po mom mišljenju bili i razlog linča moje malenkosti početkom devedesetih - ispričala je jednom prigodom Mira Furlan koja je punih 35 godina, sve do smrti, bila u braku s redateljem Goranom Gajićem s kojim je dobila sina Marka Lava (23).

Vezu su započeli davne 1986., kad je glumica počela živjeti na relaciji Zagreb-Beograd, gdje je Goran studirao. U to su vrijeme krenule nacionalističke tenzije i Miri je sve krenulo nizbrdo - oduzet joj je bakin stan, dobila je otkaz u Hrvatskom narodnom kazalištu, a sa svime su stizale i prijetnje smrću, kojih je po danu bilo i pedesetak. Furlan se 1991. prvo preselila u Beograd, a onda se uskoro s Goranom preselila u Ameriku.

Radila je kao konobarica, prevoditeljica i prodavačica, dok je Goran snimao namjenske videokazete, resturirao fotografije, radio CD za jednu japansku banku, bio dostavljač, montažer... Prije odlaska preko bare Gajić je bio poznat kao novinar Poleta i suradnik Starta, debi je imao filmom "Video jela, zelen bor". Svojedobno je u SAD-u dobio priliku da režira jednu od epizoda popularne američke serije "OZ".

- Kad smo došli u Ameriku, ni Mira ni ja nismo imali jasnu predodžbu što ćemo sa sobom. Ali shvatili smo da moramo početi živjeti, što je u našim profesijama, zbog goleme konkurencije, tamo prilično teško. Činjenica da sam u džepu imao diplomu redatelja nikad nikome ništa nije značila, osim mojoj mami, a pogotovo ne u Americi, gdje za diplomu pitaju vjerojatno samo liječnike. Odluka nije bila nagla, nego racionalna i dobro promišljena. Znali smo da se nećemo moći nositi s tim kaosom i tom količinom mržnje. Nije nam palo na pamet da ostanemo ni u Hrvatskoj ni u Srbiji, gdje sam živio od studentskih dana. Otišli smo jer smo pokušavali sačuvati zdrav razum. Sve ono što se dogodilo s Mirom, otkaz u kazalištu, medijski linč, bila je ne kap koja je prelila čašu, nego vodopadr, rekao je u intervjuu za Nacional.

Na pitanje kako je njen brak izdržao sve poteškoće Mira je jednom prilikom odgovorila.

- Brakovi se raspadaju, kako u emigraciji tako i u normalnom životu, a naš je izdržao, što smatram velikim postignućem u svom životu. Najlakše je odmahnuti rukom i reći: adios, a najteže se izboriti za trajanje i kontinuitet. Ljudima se čini da će ih spasiti novi počeci, nove osobe, novi zanosi. Ali se novina brzo potroši i čovjek se opet sretne sa samim sobom i vlastitim problemima. Rješenje, rekla bih, nikad nije u drugoj osobi, nego u nama samima.

Popeo se na jarbol broda koji nas je vozio od Hvara do Visa. Gledajući ga kako se jednom rukom drži na tom neopisivo visokom jarbolu, shvatila sam da je to čovjek koji se ne boji. Konačno, rekla sam u sebi. Moji dotadašnji susreti s osobama suprotnog spola uglavnom su bili susreti s potpuno isprepadanim muškarcima. Panični strah od žena je ujedno i izvor nasilja prema ženama koje obilježava ove prostore. Taj strah i ta mržnja koja iz njega proizlazi također su po mom mišljenju bili i razlog linča moje malenkosti početkom devedesetih - ispričala je jednom prigodom Mira Furlan koja je punih 35 godina, sve do smrti, bila u braku s redateljem Goranom Gajićem s kojim je dobila sina Marka Lava (23).

Vezu su započeli davne 1986., kad je glumica počela živjeti na relaciji Zagreb-Beograd, gdje je Goran studirao. U to su vrijeme krenule nacionalističke tenzije i Miri je sve krenulo nizbrdo - oduzet joj je bakin stan, dobila je otkaz u Hrvatskom narodnom kazalištu, a sa svime su stizale i prijetnje smrću, kojih je po danu bilo i pedesetak. Furlan se 1991. prvo preselila u Beograd, a onda se uskoro s Goranom preselila u Ameriku.

Radila je kao konobarica, prevoditeljica i prodavačica, dok je Goran snimao namjenske videokazete, resturirao fotografije, radio CD za jednu japansku banku, bio dostavljač, montažer... Prije odlaska preko bare Gajić je bio poznat kao novinar Poleta i suradnik Starta, debi je imao filmom "Video jela, zelen bor". Svojedobno je u SAD-u dobio priliku da režira jednu od epizoda popularne američke serije "OZ".

- Kad smo došli u Ameriku, ni Mira ni ja nismo imali jasnu predodžbu što ćemo sa sobom. Ali shvatili smo da moramo početi živjeti, što je u našim profesijama, zbog goleme konkurencije, tamo prilično teško. Činjenica da sam u džepu imao diplomu redatelja nikad nikome ništa nije značila, osim mojoj mami, a pogotovo ne u Americi, gdje za diplomu pitaju vjerojatno samo liječnike. Odluka nije bila nagla, nego racionalna i dobro promišljena. Znali smo da se nećemo moći nositi s tim kaosom i tom količinom mržnje. Nije nam palo na pamet da ostanemo ni u Hrvatskoj ni u Srbiji, gdje sam živio od studentskih dana. Otišli smo jer smo pokušavali sačuvati zdrav razum. Sve ono što se dogodilo s Mirom, otkaz u kazalištu, medijski linč, bila je ne kap koja je prelila čašu, nego vodopadr, rekao je u intervjuu za Nacional.

Na pitanje kako je njen brak izdržao sve poteškoće Mira je jednom prilikom odgovorila.

- Brakovi se raspadaju, kako u emigraciji tako i u normalnom životu, a naš je izdržao, što smatram velikim postignućem u svom životu. Najlakše je odmahnuti rukom i reći: adios, a najteže se izboriti za trajanje i kontinuitet. Ljudima se čini da će ih spasiti novi počeci, nove osobe, novi zanosi. Ali se novina brzo potroši i čovjek se opet sretne sa samim sobom i vlastitim problemima. Rješenje, rekla bih, nikad nije u drugoj osobi, nego u nama samima.
