Hrvatsko-američka jazzistica Thana Alexa nominirana je za ovogodišnji Grammy u kategoriji najboljih jazz vokalnih albuma, što je izazvalo pozitivan šok među poznavateljima jazz scene u Hrvatskoj!
Ovaj tjedan, naime, objavljene su 63 nominacije za Grammy 2021., a uz poznata imena jazza kao što Chick Corea, Joshua Redman i Kurt Elling nalaze se i nova lica, među kojima je i mlada glazbenica hrvatskih korijena.
Njezin album, nazvan na materinjem jeziku "Ona", našao se u konkurenciji sa projektima Kurta Ellinga, Somi, Carmen Lundy i Kennyija Washingtona.
Punim imenom Thana Alexa Pavelić, 33-godišnja skladateljica, aranžerka i pjevačica rođena je u New Yorku, otac joj je odvjetnik Radovan Pavelić, a majka Mercy de Bona Pavelić, iz poznate dubrovačke obitelji Bona, bila je kazališna glumica i vrlo uspješna investicijska bankarica.
Otac je s velikim uspjehom zastupao hrvatske interese pred Vrhovnim sudom Amerike i zaslužan je za Thaninu ljubav prema glazbi.
Djetinjstvo je provela u Connecticutu, s četiri godine svirala je violinu. Pred završetak osnovne škole preselila se s obitelji u Hrvatsku, u Zagreb, gdje je dalje i odrastala. Prvi nastup u javnosti imala je u Dubrovniku, s 13 godina, a nastupila je u kafiću 'Trubadur' na nagovor vlasnika Marka Breškovića iz Dubrovačkih trubadura.
Sa 16 godina zapjevala je u zagrebačkom B.P. Clubu, jer je njezin talent uočio legendarni hrvatski jazzer Boško Petrović. Poslije je stekla diplomu iz jazz glazbe na New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, i psihologije na newyorškom New School Universityju. Usporedno je radila na pjevačkoj karijeri.
Dok je studirala, postala je štićenica jazz bubnjara Bernarda Purdieja, poznatog po suradnji s uglednim glazbenim imenima kao što su Aretha Franklin i James Brown.
Još prije završetka studija glazbe i psihologije počela je nastupati na raznim klupskim pozornicama. Surađuje s poznatim imenima newyorške jazz-scene, među kojima su kontrabasist Reggie Workman, bubnjar Bernard Pretty Purdie, saksofonist Billy Harper, bubnjar Antonio Sanchez, te pijanisti Junior Mance i Jay Clayton. Prvi je album "Ode to Heroes" objavila 2015. godine.
Udala se za newyorškog bubnjara i skladatelja filmske glazbe Antonija Sancheza, dobitnika četiri Grammyja, te nominiranog za Oscara za glazbu u filmu 'Birdman', koji svira u sastavu poznatog gitarista Pata Methenyja.
- Njezina nominacija je izvanredan uspjeh za hrvatske snage u jazzu – komentira Dražen Kokanović, organizator jazz koncerata, koji je u Hrvatsku doveo najveća jazz imena svijeta. - Dugogodišnju uspješnu karijeru u jazzu, od pedesetih godina, imala je pjevačica Helen Merill, rođena u New Yorku u obitelji hrvatskih useljenika, pravim imenom Jelena Ana Milčetić. No uspjeh mlade Thane Alexe je kudikamo veći upravo zbog njezinih godina, ona je ozbiljno mlada pjevačica.
S obzirom na to da svake dvije godine nastupi u Zagrebu, mogu reći da je izvanredno talentirana, ne samo pjevačica već i skladateljica i organizatorica, jer na svojim projektima uspijeva okupiti kvalitetne glazbenike. Primjerice, na ovom albumu s njom surađuje Regina Carter, najbolja svjetska jazz violinistica, kao i Becca Stevens.
Uopće, činjenica da se našla u društvu tako velikih zvijezda – a Kurt Elling je već godinama po izboru publike i kritike najbolji svjetski jazz pjevač - je velika, stvarno velika stvar! Inače, i njezin muž, bubnjar Antonio Sanchez je gostovao više puta u Hrvatskoj, a njezini konkurenti za Grammy također: Somi je prošle godine nastupila u Puli, a Kurt Elling je kod nas pjevao tri puta, u Zagrebu i u Rovinju – sjeća se Kokanović.
Prilikom predstavljanja svog albuma "Ona" u ožujku ove godine, Thana Alexa je kazala da je kroz svih osam skladbi na albumu istraživala složenu temu onoga što znači biti žena. Pjesme su duboko osobne, dijelom odražavaju njezine hrvatsko-američke korijene, a velik utjecaj na cijeli album imalo je autoričino iskustvo sudjelovanja na Ženskom maršu u Washingtonu.
- Nikad se nisam osjećala toliko motivirana da izrazim svoje pravo na otpor, prosvjed i podržavanje pozitivnog pokreta promjena - rekla je tada.

Hrvatsko-američka jazzistica Thana Alexa nominirana je za ovogodišnji Grammy u kategoriji najboljih jazz vokalnih albuma, što je izazvalo pozitivan šok među poznavateljima jazz scene u Hrvatskoj!
Ovaj tjedan, naime, objavljene su 63 nominacije za Grammy 2021., a uz poznata imena jazza kao što Chick Corea, Joshua Redman i Kurt Elling nalaze se i nova lica, među kojima je i mlada glazbenica hrvatskih korijena.
Njezin album, nazvan na materinjem jeziku "Ona", našao se u konkurenciji sa projektima Kurta Ellinga, Somi, Carmen Lundy i Kennyija Washingtona.
Punim imenom Thana Alexa Pavelić, 33-godišnja skladateljica, aranžerka i pjevačica rođena je u New Yorku, otac joj je odvjetnik Radovan Pavelić, a majka Mercy de Bona Pavelić, iz poznate dubrovačke obitelji Bona, bila je kazališna glumica i vrlo uspješna investicijska bankarica.
Otac je s velikim uspjehom zastupao hrvatske interese pred Vrhovnim sudom Amerike i zaslužan je za Thaninu ljubav prema glazbi.
Djetinjstvo je provela u Connecticutu, s četiri godine svirala je violinu. Pred završetak osnovne škole preselila se s obitelji u Hrvatsku, u Zagreb, gdje je dalje i odrastala. Prvi nastup u javnosti imala je u Dubrovniku, s 13 godina, a nastupila je u kafiću 'Trubadur' na nagovor vlasnika Marka Breškovića iz Dubrovačkih trubadura.
Sa 16 godina zapjevala je u zagrebačkom B.P. Clubu, jer je njezin talent uočio legendarni hrvatski jazzer Boško Petrović. Poslije je stekla diplomu iz jazz glazbe na New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, i psihologije na newyorškom New School Universityju. Usporedno je radila na pjevačkoj karijeri.
Dok je studirala, postala je štićenica jazz bubnjara Bernarda Purdieja, poznatog po suradnji s uglednim glazbenim imenima kao što su Aretha Franklin i James Brown.
Još prije završetka studija glazbe i psihologije počela je nastupati na raznim klupskim pozornicama. Surađuje s poznatim imenima newyorške jazz-scene, među kojima su kontrabasist Reggie Workman, bubnjar Bernard Pretty Purdie, saksofonist Billy Harper, bubnjar Antonio Sanchez, te pijanisti Junior Mance i Jay Clayton. Prvi je album "Ode to Heroes" objavila 2015. godine.
Udala se za newyorškog bubnjara i skladatelja filmske glazbe Antonija Sancheza, dobitnika četiri Grammyja, te nominiranog za Oscara za glazbu u filmu 'Birdman', koji svira u sastavu poznatog gitarista Pata Methenyja.
- Njezina nominacija je izvanredan uspjeh za hrvatske snage u jazzu – komentira Dražen Kokanović, organizator jazz koncerata, koji je u Hrvatsku doveo najveća jazz imena svijeta. - Dugogodišnju uspješnu karijeru u jazzu, od pedesetih godina, imala je pjevačica Helen Merill, rođena u New Yorku u obitelji hrvatskih useljenika, pravim imenom Jelena Ana Milčetić. No uspjeh mlade Thane Alexe je kudikamo veći upravo zbog njezinih godina, ona je ozbiljno mlada pjevačica.
S obzirom na to da svake dvije godine nastupi u Zagrebu, mogu reći da je izvanredno talentirana, ne samo pjevačica već i skladateljica i organizatorica, jer na svojim projektima uspijeva okupiti kvalitetne glazbenike. Primjerice, na ovom albumu s njom surađuje Regina Carter, najbolja svjetska jazz violinistica, kao i Becca Stevens.
Uopće, činjenica da se našla u društvu tako velikih zvijezda – a Kurt Elling je već godinama po izboru publike i kritike najbolji svjetski jazz pjevač - je velika, stvarno velika stvar! Inače, i njezin muž, bubnjar Antonio Sanchez je gostovao više puta u Hrvatskoj, a njezini konkurenti za Grammy također: Somi je prošle godine nastupila u Puli, a Kurt Elling je kod nas pjevao tri puta, u Zagrebu i u Rovinju – sjeća se Kokanović.
Prilikom predstavljanja svog albuma "Ona" u ožujku ove godine, Thana Alexa je kazala da je kroz svih osam skladbi na albumu istraživala složenu temu onoga što znači biti žena. Pjesme su duboko osobne, dijelom odražavaju njezine hrvatsko-američke korijene, a velik utjecaj na cijeli album imalo je autoričino iskustvo sudjelovanja na Ženskom maršu u Washingtonu.
- Nikad se nisam osjećala toliko motivirana da izrazim svoje pravo na otpor, prosvjed i podržavanje pozitivnog pokreta promjena - rekla je tada.
