Bio je jedan od rodonačelnika francuskog "novog vala" i sinonim za filmski (post)modernizam. Istraživao je i širio granice svijeta pokretnih slika. Zadužio je francusku, europsku i svjetsku kinematografiju. Pretvorio je u zvijezdu Jean-Paula Belmonda. Utjecao na brojne filmaše. Quentin Tarantino je po naslovu njegova filma "A Band Apart" nazvao svoju produkcijsku kompaniju. On je redateljski velikan Jean-Luc Godard (1930. – 2022.), koji više, nažalost, nije među živima.

Otišao je posljednji francuski "novovalovac" i pridružio se Francoisu Truffautu, Claudeu Chabrolu, Alainu Resnaisu, Agnes Vardi... Poživio je Godard dugo, najduže od svih njih, premašivši devedesetu. Ostao je aktivan "do posljednjeg daha", sukladno naslovu njegova utjecajnog prvijenca, iako je još 1967., na odjavnoj špici filma "Vikend", najavio "kraj priče – kraj kinematografije". Znao je, ako ništa, snimati samoga sebe kako puši "kubanku" i pritom eksperimentirati s filterima slike.

Kuler sa sunčanim naočalama

Posljednji film je režirao 2018. godine. "Kaleidoskop" je premijerno prikazan kod nas na Human Rights Festivalu i nagrađen u Cannesu, gdje je 2014. dobio nagradu i za "Zbogom jeziku", a četiri godine ranije počasnog Oscara "za strast, konfrontaciju i novu vrstu filma". U tim kolažnim filmovima vizualnog tijeka svijesti, Godard je odisao kreativnom mladenačkom energijom i ne bi se reklo da su djelo čovjeka od preko 80 godina.

Kasniji Godardovi filmovi bili su relevantni i radikalni u eksperimentalnom smislu, kao i sam redatelj koji je "Goodbye to Language" snimio u aktualnom 3D-u, ali nije se prodao i snimio nešto komercijalno, ostavši vjeran sebi i svojim stilskim i intelektualnim preokupacijama čak i kad su ga mnogi otpisali, govoreći da nije što je nekoć bio.

Možda i nije, ali tko jest? Na koncu, to Godardovo "nekoć" je teško dosegljivo. Samo u šezdesetim godinama prošlog stoljeća, tijekom jedne jedine dekade, Godard je snimio ovaj niz: "Do posljednjeg daha", "Žena je žena", "Živjeti svoj život", "Mali vojnik", "Prezir", "Neobična banda", "Udana žena", "Alphaville", "Ludi Pierrot", "Muški rod, ženski rod"...

Od tih deset filmova praktički je svaki kultni, počevši od "Breathless" s kojim je Godard, nagrađen za režiju na Berlinaleu, preporodio (francusku) kinematografiju i promijenio povijest nakon što je od kritičara časopisa "Cahiers du cinéma" postao režiser.

"Do posljednjeg daha" je bio jedan od prvih kul i kult filmova uopće, davno prije nego što su iskovane te kovanice ("cool", "cult"), a taj status je uživao i Godard. On je postao utjelovljenje kul i kult redatelja. Dotad (ako ne i otad) nije bilo kulerskije i kultnije fotografije nekog redatelja od fotke Godarda kako sa sunčanim naočalama na glavi proučava film rastegnut u njegovim rukama.

Istina 24 sličice u sekundi

Prilično ikonički trenutak. Ikonički su i bili njegovi filmovi, a "Do posljednjeg daha" najikoničkiji i najutjecajniji u niski koja uključuje i "Alphaville" kao preteču kasnijih mješavina SF-a i noira ("Istrebljivač", "Brazil"). Spajanjem američkog žanrovskog filma (kojeg je volio) i poetike talijanskog neorealizma Godard je podigao temelje "novog vala" i ostvario utjecaj na "novi Hollywood" sedamdesetih te američku nezavisnu scenu osamdesetih i devedesetih.

Priča o sitnom francuskom kriminalcu u bijegu i mladoj Amerikanki u Parizu (Belmondo, Jean Seberg) nije mogla biti bazičnija, no način kako ju je Godard ispričao promijenio je sve dok su mu za film bili potrebni "samo djevojka i pištolj". Jer, prema Godardovim riječima, "Breathless" je "uzeo sve što je kinematografija dotad napravila, djevojke, gangstere, automobile, digao to u zrak i jednom zauvijek stao na kraj starom stilu".

Kamera je bila dinamična i u konstantnom pokretu, Godard je režirao intuitivno bez dovršenog scenarija na lokacijama umjesto u studiju improvizirajući scene u hodu i poticao glumce na (dijalošku) improvizaciju, film je imao poludokumentaristički izričaj i bio smiono montiran s naglim, "skokovitim" prijelazima kakvi se nisu mogli naći u udžbenicima. Godard je prekršio pravila i napisao nova, a njegov je stil uvijek bio impozantan, čak i kad bi ga gušile intelektualne debate likova bez kraja i konca.

"Priča bi trebala imati početak, sredinu i kraj, ali ne nužno tim redom", jedan je od Godardovih citatnih filmskih aforizama koji savršeno preslikava njegov redateljski "modus operandi" i autorska strujanja. Drugi poznati aforizam, "Film je istina 24 sličice u sekundi", Godard je iskovao na snimanju "Le petit soldat", gdje je upoznao buduću ženu Annu Karinu, jednu od nekoliko zvjezdanih glumica s kojima je surađivao (Brigitte Bardot, "Le Mepris").

Upravo to Godard je propitivao kroz karijeru, bilo da se radi o političkoj (Alžirski rat za nezavisnost u zabranjivanom "Malom vojniku") ili, još više, filmskoj istini kao u "Preziru", filmu o filmaštvu. Film je za njega bio neodvojiv od života. "Uvijek sam brkao film sa životom. Za mene je život samo dio filmova", potvrđuje to njegova izjava. Adieu, monseigneur Godard.

Bio je jedan od rodonačelnika francuskog "novog vala" i sinonim za filmski (post)modernizam. Istraživao je i širio granice svijeta pokretnih slika. Zadužio je francusku, europsku i svjetsku kinematografiju. Pretvorio je u zvijezdu Jean-Paula Belmonda. Utjecao na brojne filmaše. Quentin Tarantino je po naslovu njegova filma "A Band Apart" nazvao svoju produkcijsku kompaniju. On je redateljski velikan Jean-Luc Godard (1930. – 2022.), koji više, nažalost, nije među živima.

Otišao je posljednji francuski "novovalovac" i pridružio se Francoisu Truffautu, Claudeu Chabrolu, Alainu Resnaisu, Agnes Vardi... Poživio je Godard dugo, najduže od svih njih, premašivši devedesetu. Ostao je aktivan "do posljednjeg daha", sukladno naslovu njegova utjecajnog prvijenca, iako je još 1967., na odjavnoj špici filma "Vikend", najavio "kraj priče – kraj kinematografije". Znao je, ako ništa, snimati samoga sebe kako puši "kubanku" i pritom eksperimentirati s filterima slike.

Kuler sa sunčanim naočalama

Posljednji film je režirao 2018. godine. "Kaleidoskop" je premijerno prikazan kod nas na Human Rights Festivalu i nagrađen u Cannesu, gdje je 2014. dobio nagradu i za "Zbogom jeziku", a četiri godine ranije počasnog Oscara "za strast, konfrontaciju i novu vrstu filma". U tim kolažnim filmovima vizualnog tijeka svijesti, Godard je odisao kreativnom mladenačkom energijom i ne bi se reklo da su djelo čovjeka od preko 80 godina.

Kasniji Godardovi filmovi bili su relevantni i radikalni u eksperimentalnom smislu, kao i sam redatelj koji je "Goodbye to Language" snimio u aktualnom 3D-u, ali nije se prodao i snimio nešto komercijalno, ostavši vjeran sebi i svojim stilskim i intelektualnim preokupacijama čak i kad su ga mnogi otpisali, govoreći da nije što je nekoć bio.

Možda i nije, ali tko jest? Na koncu, to Godardovo "nekoć" je teško dosegljivo. Samo u šezdesetim godinama prošlog stoljeća, tijekom jedne jedine dekade, Godard je snimio ovaj niz: "Do posljednjeg daha", "Žena je žena", "Živjeti svoj život", "Mali vojnik", "Prezir", "Neobična banda", "Udana žena", "Alphaville", "Ludi Pierrot", "Muški rod, ženski rod"...

Od tih deset filmova praktički je svaki kultni, počevši od "Breathless" s kojim je Godard, nagrađen za režiju na Berlinaleu, preporodio (francusku) kinematografiju i promijenio povijest nakon što je od kritičara časopisa "Cahiers du cinéma" postao režiser.

"Do posljednjeg daha" je bio jedan od prvih kul i kult filmova uopće, davno prije nego što su iskovane te kovanice ("cool", "cult"), a taj status je uživao i Godard. On je postao utjelovljenje kul i kult redatelja. Dotad (ako ne i otad) nije bilo kulerskije i kultnije fotografije nekog redatelja od fotke Godarda kako sa sunčanim naočalama na glavi proučava film rastegnut u njegovim rukama.

Istina 24 sličice u sekundi

Prilično ikonički trenutak. Ikonički su i bili njegovi filmovi, a "Do posljednjeg daha" najikoničkiji i najutjecajniji u niski koja uključuje i "Alphaville" kao preteču kasnijih mješavina SF-a i noira ("Istrebljivač", "Brazil"). Spajanjem američkog žanrovskog filma (kojeg je volio) i poetike talijanskog neorealizma Godard je podigao temelje "novog vala" i ostvario utjecaj na "novi Hollywood" sedamdesetih te američku nezavisnu scenu osamdesetih i devedesetih.

Priča o sitnom francuskom kriminalcu u bijegu i mladoj Amerikanki u Parizu (Belmondo, Jean Seberg) nije mogla biti bazičnija, no način kako ju je Godard ispričao promijenio je sve dok su mu za film bili potrebni "samo djevojka i pištolj". Jer, prema Godardovim riječima, "Breathless" je "uzeo sve što je kinematografija dotad napravila, djevojke, gangstere, automobile, digao to u zrak i jednom zauvijek stao na kraj starom stilu".

Kamera je bila dinamična i u konstantnom pokretu, Godard je režirao intuitivno bez dovršenog scenarija na lokacijama umjesto u studiju improvizirajući scene u hodu i poticao glumce na (dijalošku) improvizaciju, film je imao poludokumentaristički izričaj i bio smiono montiran s naglim, "skokovitim" prijelazima kakvi se nisu mogli naći u udžbenicima. Godard je prekršio pravila i napisao nova, a njegov je stil uvijek bio impozantan, čak i kad bi ga gušile intelektualne debate likova bez kraja i konca.

"Priča bi trebala imati početak, sredinu i kraj, ali ne nužno tim redom", jedan je od Godardovih citatnih filmskih aforizama koji savršeno preslikava njegov redateljski "modus operandi" i autorska strujanja. Drugi poznati aforizam, "Film je istina 24 sličice u sekundi", Godard je iskovao na snimanju "Le petit soldat", gdje je upoznao buduću ženu Annu Karinu, jednu od nekoliko zvjezdanih glumica s kojima je surađivao (Brigitte Bardot, "Le Mepris").

Upravo to Godard je propitivao kroz karijeru, bilo da se radi o političkoj (Alžirski rat za nezavisnost u zabranjivanom "Malom vojniku") ili, još više, filmskoj istini kao u "Preziru", filmu o filmaštvu. Film je za njega bio neodvojiv od života. "Uvijek sam brkao film sa životom. Za mene je život samo dio filmova", potvrđuje to njegova izjava. Adieu, monseigneur Godard.
