Dosadašnje verzije "Pepeljuge" teško je nabrojati. U početku je bio animirani film Walta Disneyja. A onda se snimila sva sila igranih filmova. Neki od njih se nisu ni zvali "Cindrella", ali pričali su poznatu priču uz određene moderne preinake, recimo "Pepeljuga" (1997.) s tamnoputom pjevačicom Brandy u glavnoj ulozi ili "Jednom zauvijek" (1998.) i "Ellin čarobni svijet" (2004.) s princezama romantične komedije Drew Barrymore i Anne Hathaway.

I protekla dekada je dobila svoju Cinderellu u tijelu Lily James iz istoimena filma Kennetha Branagha. Svijet doista ne treba još jednu "Pepeljugu", ali svejedno smo je dobili u prošlogodišnjem filmu "Cinderella", nastalom u produkciji Amazona, koji se upravo premijerno pojavio na hratskom "online" videotržištu, paralelno sa streaming premijerom "The Princess".

"Pepeljuga" redateljice i scenaristice Kay Cannon ("Neće moći ove noći"; napisala "Na putu do zvijezda", producirala "Na putu do zvijezda 2") nastoji prilagoditi protagonisticu popularne bajke današnjim politički korektnim "woke" vremenima i potencirati feminizam, rasni, seksualni i ini diverzitet, a samu bajku pretvoriti u (fantazijski) mjuzikl. Pepeljugu, tj. Ellu zvanu Cinderella, ovaj put glumi mlada pjevačica kubanskog podrijetla Camila Cabello, a Dobra vila/Fairy Godmother je, u tumačenju Billyja Portera, dobila kompletni "makeover" i promijenila ime (Fabulous G), spol, boju kože i seksualne preferencije.

Cabello je solidna i dopadljiva kao Cinderella u filmu koji zahvaljujući njoj garnira tračak magije i mrvicu emocije, ali njezina kemija u interakcijama s princom Robertom (Nicholas Galitzine) je nepostojeća i on je kao lik dosadan i isprazan, "idiotski sin" kralja Rowana (Pierce Brosnan) i kraljice Beatrice (Minnie Driver) koji je tu samo da ispuni svoju ulogu, pozove na bal svaku djevojku neovisno o bogatstvu/statusu i potom nađe vlasnicu staklene cipelice.

Jasno, film započinje bajkovitim proglasom "once upon a time...", ali da će ova bajka biti nešto drukčija sugerira nastavak naracije koja pripovijeda o staromodnom kraljevstvu vezanom tradicijom i njegovim žiteljima koji su imali svoje uloge i igrali ih bez postavljanja suvišnih pitanja, a nisu znali da će s njihov svijet promijeniti.

Tu je i uvodno pjevanje pjesme Janet Jackson iz osamdesetih, "Rhythm Nation", na temu rasne (ne)jednakosti. Moderne pjesme u staromodnim filmovima nisu novost, sjetimo li se "Romea i Julije" i "Moulin Rougea", a ovdje čujemo "Somebody To Love" i "Material Girl" u izvedbi princa i Pepeljugine maćehe Vivian (Idina Menzel).

Ipak, ako se sjetimo da se "Somebody To Love" pjevala i u prethodnoj "Cinderelli", filmu "Ella Enchanted", a i da Pepeljuga nije bila bjelkinja u verziji s Brandy, nova verzija postaje sve manje originalna i progresivna u pristupu, koliko god se trudila ostati takvom.

Ponizna junakinja čistog srca želi biti neovisna i postati modna dizajnerica kako više ne bi morala živjeti u podrumu pomajke za čiju okrutnost i sklonost materijalizmu film pokušava pronaći opravdanje i razumijevanje. Zbog Pepeljuginih preferencija, Cannon ulaže puno truda u kostimografiju, premda "Cinderella" u tom smislu nije "Cruella".

Kostimografija i glazbeni brojevi svakako su bolji od dijaloga koje spašava povremeno samosvjesni, namigujući i autoparodični karakter, tipa da Pepeljuga kaže da je pjevala prije nekoliko minuta o pomoći koja joj "treba", kako kaže Fabulous G, ili da kraljica zavapi "Oh, ne, zapjevat će" kad se kralj spremi za pjesmu.

Ovo potonje je jamačno zgodna interna fora između Driver i Brosnana na relaciji "Goldeneye" – "Mamma Mia". U "Zlatnom oku" Bond se pitao "tko davi mačku?" kad je čuo rusku pjevačicu (Driver) na djelu, da bi godinama kasnije Brosnan i sam zapjevao prilično loše u hit-mjuziklu, kao što pjeva i sada. Mamma Mia!

Dosadašnje verzije "Pepeljuge" teško je nabrojati. U početku je bio animirani film Walta Disneyja. A onda se snimila sva sila igranih filmova. Neki od njih se nisu ni zvali "Cindrella", ali pričali su poznatu priču uz određene moderne preinake, recimo "Pepeljuga" (1997.) s tamnoputom pjevačicom Brandy u glavnoj ulozi ili "Jednom zauvijek" (1998.) i "Ellin čarobni svijet" (2004.) s princezama romantične komedije Drew Barrymore i Anne Hathaway.

I protekla dekada je dobila svoju Cinderellu u tijelu Lily James iz istoimena filma Kennetha Branagha. Svijet doista ne treba još jednu "Pepeljugu", ali svejedno smo je dobili u prošlogodišnjem filmu "Cinderella", nastalom u produkciji Amazona, koji se upravo premijerno pojavio na hratskom "online" videotržištu, paralelno sa streaming premijerom "The Princess".

"Pepeljuga" redateljice i scenaristice Kay Cannon ("Neće moći ove noći"; napisala "Na putu do zvijezda", producirala "Na putu do zvijezda 2") nastoji prilagoditi protagonisticu popularne bajke današnjim politički korektnim "woke" vremenima i potencirati feminizam, rasni, seksualni i ini diverzitet, a samu bajku pretvoriti u (fantazijski) mjuzikl. Pepeljugu, tj. Ellu zvanu Cinderella, ovaj put glumi mlada pjevačica kubanskog podrijetla Camila Cabello, a Dobra vila/Fairy Godmother je, u tumačenju Billyja Portera, dobila kompletni "makeover" i promijenila ime (Fabulous G), spol, boju kože i seksualne preferencije.

Cabello je solidna i dopadljiva kao Cinderella u filmu koji zahvaljujući njoj garnira tračak magije i mrvicu emocije, ali njezina kemija u interakcijama s princom Robertom (Nicholas Galitzine) je nepostojeća i on je kao lik dosadan i isprazan, "idiotski sin" kralja Rowana (Pierce Brosnan) i kraljice Beatrice (Minnie Driver) koji je tu samo da ispuni svoju ulogu, pozove na bal svaku djevojku neovisno o bogatstvu/statusu i potom nađe vlasnicu staklene cipelice.

Jasno, film započinje bajkovitim proglasom "once upon a time...", ali da će ova bajka biti nešto drukčija sugerira nastavak naracije koja pripovijeda o staromodnom kraljevstvu vezanom tradicijom i njegovim žiteljima koji su imali svoje uloge i igrali ih bez postavljanja suvišnih pitanja, a nisu znali da će s njihov svijet promijeniti.

Tu je i uvodno pjevanje pjesme Janet Jackson iz osamdesetih, "Rhythm Nation", na temu rasne (ne)jednakosti. Moderne pjesme u staromodnim filmovima nisu novost, sjetimo li se "Romea i Julije" i "Moulin Rougea", a ovdje čujemo "Somebody To Love" i "Material Girl" u izvedbi princa i Pepeljugine maćehe Vivian (Idina Menzel).

Ipak, ako se sjetimo da se "Somebody To Love" pjevala i u prethodnoj "Cinderelli", filmu "Ella Enchanted", a i da Pepeljuga nije bila bjelkinja u verziji s Brandy, nova verzija postaje sve manje originalna i progresivna u pristupu, koliko god se trudila ostati takvom.

Ponizna junakinja čistog srca želi biti neovisna i postati modna dizajnerica kako više ne bi morala živjeti u podrumu pomajke za čiju okrutnost i sklonost materijalizmu film pokušava pronaći opravdanje i razumijevanje. Zbog Pepeljuginih preferencija, Cannon ulaže puno truda u kostimografiju, premda "Cinderella" u tom smislu nije "Cruella".

Kostimografija i glazbeni brojevi svakako su bolji od dijaloga koje spašava povremeno samosvjesni, namigujući i autoparodični karakter, tipa da Pepeljuga kaže da je pjevala prije nekoliko minuta o pomoći koja joj "treba", kako kaže Fabulous G, ili da kraljica zavapi "Oh, ne, zapjevat će" kad se kralj spremi za pjesmu.

Ovo potonje je jamačno zgodna interna fora između Driver i Brosnana na relaciji "Goldeneye" – "Mamma Mia". U "Zlatnom oku" Bond se pitao "tko davi mačku?" kad je čuo rusku pjevačicu (Driver) na djelu, da bi godinama kasnije Brosnan i sam zapjevao prilično loše u hit-mjuziklu, kao što pjeva i sada. Mamma Mia!

Producent filma je James Corden koji se i pojavljuje u filmu u maloj ulozi, a i dao je glas jednom od Pepeljuginih miševa.
