Preslušavanje novih albuma svakog tjedna me iznova podsjeća na nasumično posezanje za pločama iz kućne diskoteke. Kojiput izvučem nešto iz sedamdesetih a drugi put opet iz sedamdesetih, šezdesetih ili pedesetih... Jer, molit ću lijepo, golema većina novih projekata zvuči kao nešto što sam prije slušao. Beach House nisu nikakva iznimka.

Uvodni broj njihova novog albuma “Thank Your Lucky Stars“ s milozvučnim slojevima klavijatura i “astralnim“ vokalom katapultira me, recimo, ravno u osamdesete. Mada je mnogo manje prozračan i ambijentalan od prethodnog albuma te s više konciznih pop melodija no ikad ranije, i “Under Your Lucky Stars“ mnogo duguje eteričnim brojevima kojima su - naslanjajući se na poetiku osamdesetih - Beach House stekli ime.
 

Srećom odmaka od već dobro znane formule ima dovoljno da bi albumu upisali plusove. Recimo u “All Your Yeahs“ repetitivna gitara na početku broja i “hookovski“ bas unose zgodnu novost i notu post-punka, “One Thing“ je otvoreno divljenje strukturi skladbi i minimalizmu Velvet Undergrounda, “Common Girl“ zanimljiv spoj folky-psihodelije britanskih ranih šezdesetih i vokala a la Nico a “The Traveller“ zanimljiv hibrid vangelisovskih rješenja, gothic americane i “drame“ croonerskog materijala Tin Pan Alleya.

“Rough Song“ je pak najtipičniji primjer “novih“ Beach House; skladba koja najbolje pokazuje novi smjer koji određuju jednostavnije i prijemčivije melodije te puno “skromniji“ i manje cifrani aranžmani lišeni gomilanja slojeva. Što je u svakom slučaju blagovijest koja otvara vrata za nove iskorake bez drastičnog paljenja mostova za sobom. Što se mene tiče, u slučaju Beach Housea manje se doista pokazalo da je više, pa mi je i “Under Your Lucky Stars“ album sasvim po guštu.

Preslušavanje novih albuma svakog tjedna me iznova podsjeća na nasumično posezanje za pločama iz kućne diskoteke. Kojiput izvučem nešto iz sedamdesetih a drugi put opet iz sedamdesetih, šezdesetih ili pedesetih... Jer, molit ću lijepo, golema većina novih projekata zvuči kao nešto što sam prije slušao. Beach House nisu nikakva iznimka.

Uvodni broj njihova novog albuma “Thank Your Lucky Stars“ s milozvučnim slojevima klavijatura i “astralnim“ vokalom katapultira me, recimo, ravno u osamdesete. Mada je mnogo manje prozračan i ambijentalan od prethodnog albuma te s više konciznih pop melodija no ikad ranije, i “Under Your Lucky Stars“ mnogo duguje eteričnim brojevima kojima su - naslanjajući se na poetiku osamdesetih - Beach House stekli ime.
 

Srećom odmaka od već dobro znane formule ima dovoljno da bi albumu upisali plusove. Recimo u “All Your Yeahs“ repetitivna gitara na početku broja i “hookovski“ bas unose zgodnu novost i notu post-punka, “One Thing“ je otvoreno divljenje strukturi skladbi i minimalizmu Velvet Undergrounda, “Common Girl“ zanimljiv spoj folky-psihodelije britanskih ranih šezdesetih i vokala a la Nico a “The Traveller“ zanimljiv hibrid vangelisovskih rješenja, gothic americane i “drame“ croonerskog materijala Tin Pan Alleya.

“Rough Song“ je pak najtipičniji primjer “novih“ Beach House; skladba koja najbolje pokazuje novi smjer koji određuju jednostavnije i prijemčivije melodije te puno “skromniji“ i manje cifrani aranžmani lišeni gomilanja slojeva. Što je u svakom slučaju blagovijest koja otvara vrata za nove iskorake bez drastičnog paljenja mostova za sobom. Što se mene tiče, u slučaju Beach Housea manje se doista pokazalo da je više, pa mi je i “Under Your Lucky Stars“ album sasvim po guštu.
