Učestale pojave meduza u Jadranu za N1 objasnio je prof.dr.sc. Jakov Dulčić, voditelj Laboratorija za ihtiologiju i priobalni ribolov splitskog Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo.

Meduze su životinje koje postoje na planeti Zemlji već 500 milijuna godina i svojom jednostavnom građom su do savršenstva prilagođene morskom ekosustavu. Kao i većini morskih organizama, njihova brojnost se mijenja tijekom višegodišnjih ciklusa i to je sasvim prirodna pojava. Povremene masovne pojave meduza poznate su od davnih vremena, ali posljednjih se desetljeća javljaju sve češće, a sve je veća i medijska pažnja usmjerena prema takvim događajima i eventualno prouzročenoj šteti. U Sredozemnom i Crnom moru, pa tako i u Jadranu, sve je više meduza, što je posljedica globalnog zatopljenja, ali i, prvenstveno, prevelikog izlova ribe.

Režnjaci (Scyphoza) su razred žarnjaka (Cnidaria) koji kraće vrijeme provode u obliku polipa (nespolni, sjedilački stadij), a duži period provode kao meduze (spolni, slobodno plivajući stadij). Ime su dobili po tome što je vanjski rub zvona njihove meduze razdijeljen na 4 ili 8 režnjeva. Od jadranskih skifomeduza tri se smatraju problematičnima za ljude: morska mjesečina (Pelagia noctiluca), kompas meduza (Chrysaora hysoscella) i nedavno otkrivena benovićeva meduza (Pelagia benovici).

Gdje živi kompas meduza?

Kompas meduza (Chrysaora hysoscella) ili morska kopriva, vrsta je meduze koja živi u obalnim vodama Atlantskog oceana i Sredozemnog mora, a karakterizira je žuto-smeđi klobuk koji podsjeća na kompas. Ova meduza može narasti do 30 centimetara u promjeru, a lovke do metar duljine. Ima 24 lovke koje su podijeljenje u tri grupe po 8. Gibaju se uglavnom pomoću morskih struja u gornjem stupcu morske vode. Životni vijek kompas meduze je jedna godina. Pretpostavlja se da ugibaju nakon oslobađanja gameta.

Na površini klobuka ima svojstveni žuto-smeđi uzorak nalik na kompas (busolu). U Jadranu je razmjerno rijetka, najčešće se približava obali u rano ljeto i ne pojavljuje se u većem broju. Pri kontaktu s ljudskom kožom nastaju ozlijede slične opeklinama, ali je znatno manje opasna od morske mjesečine Pelagia noctiluca. Najčešće se zadržava pri površini. Kako je sezona pojava meduze ove vrste od veljače do srpnja, očekuje se da će polako početi nestajati, smanjivat će im se broj. Ranijih godina rijetko ih se primjećivalo u kolovozu, a u rujnu ih vjerojatno uz obale uopće neće biti.

No, tako je bilo do sada. Budući da ih je rijetko bilo u ovoliko velikom broju teško je nešto sa sigurnošću prognozirati. Ranije su se ove meduze koje mogu opeći zadržavale na otvorenom moru, a sada su bliže obali.

Zašto ih je ove godine baš toliko?

Ne znamo još točno zašto je kompas meduza ove godine baš toliko, ali vjerojatno ima više čimbenika koji su na to utjecali, klimatske promjene, promjene temperature morske vode, masovne pojave drugih vrsta želatinoznih planktonskih organizma kojima se kompas meduze hrane, kao što je Salpa fusiformis u ožujku i travnju, i drugih utjecaja na morski ekosustav (ribolov, eutrofikacija, zakiseljavanje mora i oceana, odstranjenje predatora meduza…).

Podsjetimo, većina meduza koje možemo naći u Jadranskom moru nisu životno opasne za ljude, nego izazivaju opekline i svrbež na koži. Te ozljede mogu biti različitih intenziteta. No, važno ih je što je više moguće izbjegavati, a ako se ipak dogodi da vas opeče, mjesto treba ohladiti i namazati aloe verom ili sličnim gelom koji sprječava opeklinske promjene.

Inače, dodatno najezde meduza mogu, poglavito u sjevernom Jadranu, uzrokovati ozbiljne probleme tamošnjim ribarima (umjesto uobičajenog ribljeg ulova koćarice izvlače mreže s po nekoliko tona meduza pod čijom težinom pucaju sajle i konopci.”

Učestale pojave meduza u Jadranu za N1 objasnio je prof.dr.sc. Jakov Dulčić, voditelj Laboratorija za ihtiologiju i priobalni ribolov splitskog Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo.

Meduze su životinje koje postoje na planeti Zemlji već 500 milijuna godina i svojom jednostavnom građom su do savršenstva prilagođene morskom ekosustavu. Kao i većini morskih organizama, njihova brojnost se mijenja tijekom višegodišnjih ciklusa i to je sasvim prirodna pojava. Povremene masovne pojave meduza poznate su od davnih vremena, ali posljednjih se desetljeća javljaju sve češće, a sve je veća i medijska pažnja usmjerena prema takvim događajima i eventualno prouzročenoj šteti. U Sredozemnom i Crnom moru, pa tako i u Jadranu, sve je više meduza, što je posljedica globalnog zatopljenja, ali i, prvenstveno, prevelikog izlova ribe.

Režnjaci (Scyphoza) su razred žarnjaka (Cnidaria) koji kraće vrijeme provode u obliku polipa (nespolni, sjedilački stadij), a duži period provode kao meduze (spolni, slobodno plivajući stadij). Ime su dobili po tome što je vanjski rub zvona njihove meduze razdijeljen na 4 ili 8 režnjeva. Od jadranskih skifomeduza tri se smatraju problematičnima za ljude: morska mjesečina (Pelagia noctiluca), kompas meduza (Chrysaora hysoscella) i nedavno otkrivena benovićeva meduza (Pelagia benovici).

Gdje živi kompas meduza?

Kompas meduza (Chrysaora hysoscella) ili morska kopriva, vrsta je meduze koja živi u obalnim vodama Atlantskog oceana i Sredozemnog mora, a karakterizira je žuto-smeđi klobuk koji podsjeća na kompas. Ova meduza može narasti do 30 centimetara u promjeru, a lovke do metar duljine. Ima 24 lovke koje su podijeljenje u tri grupe po 8. Gibaju se uglavnom pomoću morskih struja u gornjem stupcu morske vode. Životni vijek kompas meduze je jedna godina. Pretpostavlja se da ugibaju nakon oslobađanja gameta.

Na površini klobuka ima svojstveni žuto-smeđi uzorak nalik na kompas (busolu). U Jadranu je razmjerno rijetka, najčešće se približava obali u rano ljeto i ne pojavljuje se u većem broju. Pri kontaktu s ljudskom kožom nastaju ozlijede slične opeklinama, ali je znatno manje opasna od morske mjesečine Pelagia noctiluca. Najčešće se zadržava pri površini. Kako je sezona pojava meduze ove vrste od veljače do srpnja, očekuje se da će polako početi nestajati, smanjivat će im se broj. Ranijih godina rijetko ih se primjećivalo u kolovozu, a u rujnu ih vjerojatno uz obale uopće neće biti.

No, tako je bilo do sada. Budući da ih je rijetko bilo u ovoliko velikom broju teško je nešto sa sigurnošću prognozirati. Ranije su se ove meduze koje mogu opeći zadržavale na otvorenom moru, a sada su bliže obali.

Zašto ih je ove godine baš toliko?

Ne znamo još točno zašto je kompas meduza ove godine baš toliko, ali vjerojatno ima više čimbenika koji su na to utjecali, klimatske promjene, promjene temperature morske vode, masovne pojave drugih vrsta želatinoznih planktonskih organizma kojima se kompas meduze hrane, kao što je Salpa fusiformis u ožujku i travnju, i drugih utjecaja na morski ekosustav (ribolov, eutrofikacija, zakiseljavanje mora i oceana, odstranjenje predatora meduza…).

Podsjetimo, većina meduza koje možemo naći u Jadranskom moru nisu životno opasne za ljude, nego izazivaju opekline i svrbež na koži. Te ozljede mogu biti različitih intenziteta. No, važno ih je što je više moguće izbjegavati, a ako se ipak dogodi da vas opeče, mjesto treba ohladiti i namazati aloe verom ili sličnim gelom koji sprječava opeklinske promjene.

Inače, dodatno najezde meduza mogu, poglavito u sjevernom Jadranu, uzrokovati ozbiljne probleme tamošnjim ribarima (umjesto uobičajenog ribljeg ulova koćarice izvlače mreže s po nekoliko tona meduza pod čijom težinom pucaju sajle i konopci.”
