U nizu ružnih vijesti i potresnih scena sa svjetskih ratišta, dogodile su se ovih dana i neke lijepe stvari, vezane za prijateljstva među narodima.
U američkoj saveznoj državi Washington živi značajna hrvatska zajednica potomaka ribara i brodograditelja, mahom sa srednjedalmatinskih otoka Hvara i Brača. Budući da povezivanje s korjenima pokreće pozitivne akcije, tako su nas posjetili predstavnici gradova Tacome i Gig Harbora. Tacoma je grad veličine Splita, dok u Gig Harboru živi 20-ak tisuća stanovnika. Oba mjesta su polazišta odakle se već više od jednog stoljeća odlazi na lov na losose na Aljasku, a Tacoma je i značajna trgovačka luka.

Sve je započelo pred par godina prilikom mojih posjeta hrvatskim zajednica s toga područja koje gravitira još većem gradu Seattleu. Ideja je bila da se pobratime Gig Harbor i jedan brački gradić, te Tacom i Split.
U Tacomi postoji Odbor za gradove prijatelje čiji volonteri pronalaze s kime bi se pobratimili i surađivali. Na čelu odbora je Clare Petrich, unuka brodograditelja Martina Petricha rođenog u Starom Gradu, koji je 1949. godine izgradio najveći tunolovac na svijetu. I ona sama je osoba s impresivnim životopisom, jer je kao prva žena ikada, godinama obnašala funkciju predsjednice Odbora luke Tacoma. Gospođa Petrich je uputila dopis gradonačelniku Splita Ivici Puljku s pozivom na suradnju dvaju gradova koja bi u budućnosti dovela do bratmljenja, na što je on preporučio da pokrenemo neke projekte da vidimo da li bi to imalo smisla.

Nas dvije smo obavile niz razgovora u Tacomi i u Splitu vezanih za suradnju kroz kulturu, obrazovanje i trgovinu. Stoga je gospođa Petrich došla u Split s pismom poziva na suradnju svoje gradonačelnice Victorie Woodards, koje je 13. listopada potpisao i gradonačelnik Puljak, a nas dvije smo se obvezale realizirati započete dogovore.
S Gig Harborom je situacija bila drukčija, jer tamošnji potomci Hrvata su najvećim dijelom s otoka Brača. Postanak Gig Harbora je vezan za kapetana Charlesa Wilkesa kojega je 1840. godine zadesila velika oluja i našao je uvalu u koju je sklonio svoj gig i upisao ju je u kartu kao Gig Harbor. Osnivačem grada se smatra Sam Jerisich koji se tu prvi nastanio sa suprugom Indijankom. Za njim su došli i drugi, koji su u nedostatku žena ženili Indijanke, a potomke su im zvali Crnim Slavenima.

U Gig Harboru se oko bratmljenja između gradova najviše angažiraju Rotarijanci, pa mi se za pomoć obratio Bob Anderson, a ja Petroslavu Sapunaru da mi pronađe bračko mjesto pogodno za bratimljenje. I bila je to Milna, čiji je gradonačelnik Frane Lozić objeručke prihvatio tu ideju. Gig Harbor i Milna su mjesta ribara i brodograditelja, a Centar za istraživanje pomorstva u Milni može biti dobar partner Pomorskom muzeju u Gig Harboru.
Nakon što su Gradska vijeća Milne i Gig Harbora prihvatila prijedlog o bratimljenu, Frane Lozić i Tracie Markley su potpisali sporazum putem interneta, a dolazak Boba Andersona je bio prvi protokolarni posjet s američke strane.
Tom prigodom je otvorena moja izložba ‘‘Gig Harbor‘‘, a predstavljena je i gostima poklonjena monografija u dva toma o povijesti otoka Brača, maestralno djelo Roberta Barile.
Na kraju je dogovoreno povezivanje škola, a onda će se suradnja proširiti i na druga područja.

U nizu ružnih vijesti i potresnih scena sa svjetskih ratišta, dogodile su se ovih dana i neke lijepe stvari, vezane za prijateljstva među narodima.
U američkoj saveznoj državi Washington živi značajna hrvatska zajednica potomaka ribara i brodograditelja, mahom sa srednjedalmatinskih otoka Hvara i Brača. Budući da povezivanje s korjenima pokreće pozitivne akcije, tako su nas posjetili predstavnici gradova Tacome i Gig Harbora. Tacoma je grad veličine Splita, dok u Gig Harboru živi 20-ak tisuća stanovnika. Oba mjesta su polazišta odakle se već više od jednog stoljeća odlazi na lov na losose na Aljasku, a Tacoma je i značajna trgovačka luka.

Sve je započelo pred par godina prilikom mojih posjeta hrvatskim zajednica s toga područja koje gravitira još većem gradu Seattleu. Ideja je bila da se pobratime Gig Harbor i jedan brački gradić, te Tacom i Split.
U Tacomi postoji Odbor za gradove prijatelje čiji volonteri pronalaze s kime bi se pobratimili i surađivali. Na čelu odbora je Clare Petrich, unuka brodograditelja Martina Petricha rođenog u Starom Gradu, koji je 1949. godine izgradio najveći tunolovac na svijetu. I ona sama je osoba s impresivnim životopisom, jer je kao prva žena ikada, godinama obnašala funkciju predsjednice Odbora luke Tacoma. Gospođa Petrich je uputila dopis gradonačelniku Splita Ivici Puljku s pozivom na suradnju dvaju gradova koja bi u budućnosti dovela do bratmljenja, na što je on preporučio da pokrenemo neke projekte da vidimo da li bi to imalo smisla.

Nas dvije smo obavile niz razgovora u Tacomi i u Splitu vezanih za suradnju kroz kulturu, obrazovanje i trgovinu. Stoga je gospođa Petrich došla u Split s pismom poziva na suradnju svoje gradonačelnice Victorie Woodards, koje je 13. listopada potpisao i gradonačelnik Puljak, a nas dvije smo se obvezale realizirati započete dogovore.
S Gig Harborom je situacija bila drukčija, jer tamošnji potomci Hrvata su najvećim dijelom s otoka Brača. Postanak Gig Harbora je vezan za kapetana Charlesa Wilkesa kojega je 1840. godine zadesila velika oluja i našao je uvalu u koju je sklonio svoj gig i upisao ju je u kartu kao Gig Harbor. Osnivačem grada se smatra Sam Jerisich koji se tu prvi nastanio sa suprugom Indijankom. Za njim su došli i drugi, koji su u nedostatku žena ženili Indijanke, a potomke su im zvali Crnim Slavenima.

U Gig Harboru se oko bratmljenja između gradova najviše angažiraju Rotarijanci, pa mi se za pomoć obratio Bob Anderson, a ja Petroslavu Sapunaru da mi pronađe bračko mjesto pogodno za bratimljenje. I bila je to Milna, čiji je gradonačelnik Frane Lozić objeručke prihvatio tu ideju. Gig Harbor i Milna su mjesta ribara i brodograditelja, a Centar za istraživanje pomorstva u Milni može biti dobar partner Pomorskom muzeju u Gig Harboru.
Nakon što su Gradska vijeća Milne i Gig Harbora prihvatila prijedlog o bratimljenu, Frane Lozić i Tracie Markley su potpisali sporazum putem interneta, a dolazak Boba Andersona je bio prvi protokolarni posjet s američke strane.
Tom prigodom je otvorena moja izložba ‘‘Gig Harbor‘‘, a predstavljena je i gostima poklonjena monografija u dva toma o povijesti otoka Brača, maestralno djelo Roberta Barile.
Na kraju je dogovoreno povezivanje škola, a onda će se suradnja proširiti i na druga područja.
