Prije dva dana Tate je priopćio da je u uglu jednog Rothkovog platna iz serije Seagram otkrivena crna mrlja.

Kako prenosi BBC, policija je sinoć oko 21 sat po lokalnom (22 sata po srednjeeuropskom) vremenu u mjestu Worthing u pokrajini Sussex zadržala 26-godišnjaka pod sumnjom da je počinio kriminalno djelo oštećenja vrijedne slike, priopćeno je iz Metropolitan policije.

Rus Vladimir Umanets ranije je preuzeo odgovornost za oštećenje, izjavivši za BBC kako on nije vandal te da njegove akcije nisu kriminalno djelo. Umanets, inače utemeljitelj pokreta koji je nazvao Yellowism, objasnio je kako je veliki Rothkov obožavatelj a "umjetnost nam omogućuje da uzmemo tuđe djelo i unesemo u njega novu poruku".

Slika "Black on Marron" dio je serije platna velikih dimenzija koje je Rothko izradio po narudžbi 1958. za uređenje luksuznog restorana u novosagrađenom neboderu Seagram u središtu Manhattana. No, umjetnik je iz nepoznata razloga narudžbu otkazao, novac vratio, a slike donirao londonskom Tate-u. Darovana djela stigla su u London 25. veljače 1970., na dan kada je umjetnik, tada šezdesetšestogodišnjak, počinio samoubojstvo.

Djela toga slikara apstraktnog ekspresionizma iznimno su cijenjena, te su dosad postizale cijene od više desetaka milijuna funta.

Kako prenosi BBC, policija je sinoć oko 21 sat po lokalnom (22 sata po srednjeeuropskom) vremenu u mjestu Worthing u pokrajini Sussex zadržala 26-godišnjaka pod sumnjom da je počinio kriminalno djelo oštećenja vrijedne slike, priopćeno je iz Metropolitan policije.

Rus Vladimir Umanets ranije je preuzeo odgovornost za oštećenje, izjavivši za BBC kako on nije vandal te da njegove akcije nisu kriminalno djelo. Umanets, inače utemeljitelj pokreta koji je nazvao Yellowism, objasnio je kako je veliki Rothkov obožavatelj a "umjetnost nam omogućuje da uzmemo tuđe djelo i unesemo u njega novu poruku".

Slika "Black on Marron" dio je serije platna velikih dimenzija koje je Rothko izradio po narudžbi 1958. za uređenje luksuznog restorana u novosagrađenom neboderu Seagram u središtu Manhattana. No, umjetnik je iz nepoznata razloga narudžbu otkazao, novac vratio, a slike donirao londonskom Tate-u. Darovana djela stigla su u London 25. veljače 1970., na dan kada je umjetnik, tada šezdesetšestogodišnjak, počinio samoubojstvo.

Djela toga slikara apstraktnog ekspresionizma iznimno su cijenjena, te su dosad postizale cijene od više desetaka milijuna funta.
