Najpoznatiji maraton na svijetu, koji je 2012. otkazan u posljednji čas nakon prolaska oluje Sandy, u nedjelju ponovo izlazi na ulice New Yorka s oko 45.000 sudionika i uz pojačane mjere sigurnosti zbog bombaškog napada u Bostonu proljetos.

Prije godinu dana organizatori su učinili sve kako bi se održala glasovita utrka duga 42,195 kilometara, ali su odustali, dijelom zbog protivljenja Njujorčana kojih su deseci tisuća na dan maratona još bili bez struje i povijali rane nakon prolaska Sandy (gotovo dvjesto mrtvih na istočnoj obali i deseci milijardi dolara štete).

Organizatori su kasno shvatili da polazak natjecatelja sa starta na Staten Islandu, nekoliko kilometara od oštećenih i srušenih kuća, ne bi ostavio dobru sliku o natjecanju. Ne računajući pritom da bi maraton na jedan dan odvratio redarstvene snage od njihova pomaganja stradalima.

Očekuje se da će na maratonu sudjelovati Kenijci Geoffrey Mutai, nositelj naslova, i Martin Lel, peterostruki pobjednik velikih maratona, te Stephen Kiprotich, svjetski i olimpijski prvak iz Ugande.

Među natjecateljicama žestoku borbu za prvo mjesto trebale bi voditi svjetska prvakinja Edna Kiplagat (Kenija), pobjednica njujorškog maratona 2010., nositeljica srebrne olimpijske medalje Priscah Jeptoo (Kenija), ovogodišnja pobjednica u Londonu, te Etiopljanka Firehiwot Dado, nositeljica naslova u New Yorku.

Nakon napada u Bostonu u travnju (3 mrtva, 260 ozlijeđenih), najveći maratoni su pooštrili sigurnosne mjere pa ni New York nije iznimka u tom pogledu. Organizatori su rekli da ne žele uspostaviti "policijsku državu", ali pregled torba bit će brojniji zahvaljujući pojačanoj prisutnosti policije.

Najpoznatiji maraton na svijetu, koji je 2012. otkazan u posljednji čas nakon prolaska oluje Sandy, u nedjelju ponovo izlazi na ulice New Yorka s oko 45.000 sudionika i uz pojačane mjere sigurnosti zbog bombaškog napada u Bostonu proljetos.

Prije godinu dana organizatori su učinili sve kako bi se održala glasovita utrka duga 42,195 kilometara, ali su odustali, dijelom zbog protivljenja Njujorčana kojih su deseci tisuća na dan maratona još bili bez struje i povijali rane nakon prolaska Sandy (gotovo dvjesto mrtvih na istočnoj obali i deseci milijardi dolara štete).

Organizatori su kasno shvatili da polazak natjecatelja sa starta na Staten Islandu, nekoliko kilometara od oštećenih i srušenih kuća, ne bi ostavio dobru sliku o natjecanju. Ne računajući pritom da bi maraton na jedan dan odvratio redarstvene snage od njihova pomaganja stradalima.

Očekuje se da će na maratonu sudjelovati Kenijci Geoffrey Mutai, nositelj naslova, i Martin Lel, peterostruki pobjednik velikih maratona, te Stephen Kiprotich, svjetski i olimpijski prvak iz Ugande.

Među natjecateljicama žestoku borbu za prvo mjesto trebale bi voditi svjetska prvakinja Edna Kiplagat (Kenija), pobjednica njujorškog maratona 2010., nositeljica srebrne olimpijske medalje Priscah Jeptoo (Kenija), ovogodišnja pobjednica u Londonu, te Etiopljanka Firehiwot Dado, nositeljica naslova u New Yorku.

Nakon napada u Bostonu u travnju (3 mrtva, 260 ozlijeđenih), najveći maratoni su pooštrili sigurnosne mjere pa ni New York nije iznimka u tom pogledu. Organizatori su rekli da ne žele uspostaviti "policijsku državu", ali pregled torba bit će brojniji zahvaljujući pojačanoj prisutnosti policije.
