Čini se da su crvi koji žive u blizini najpoznatije zone nuklearne katastrofe, u Černobilu, razvili nove moći - imunitet na radijaciju, piše The Independent.
U novoj studiji znanstvenici su posjetili Černobil kako bi istražili obliće (nematode), sićušne crve jednostavnog genetskog sastava koji se brzo razmnožavaju. Istraživači su prikupili crve iz uzoraka tla, trulog voća i drugih materijala te testirali lokalne razine radijacije.
Razine radijacije varirale su od niskih razina koje bi bile zabilježene u velikim gradovima, do visokih razina koje se nalaze u svemiru. Znanstvenici su zatim odnijeli crve na Sveučilište u New Yorku da ih zamrznu i prouče.
Dr. Sophia Tintori, glavna autorica studije, rekla je za Daily Mail:
- Černobil je bio tragedija neshvatljivih razmjera, ali još uvijek nemamo dobar uvid u učinke katastrofe na lokalno stanovništvo. Je li iznenadna promjena okoliša odabrala vrste, ili čak jedinke unutar vrste, koji su prirodno otporniji na ionizirajuće zračenje, pita se.
Od katastrofe 1986. godine, životinje su nastavile živjeti u ukrajinskoj regiji unatoč postojanoj radijaciji nakon gotovo 40 godina.
Istraživači su prije otkrili da su životinje koje žive u Černobilskoj zoni isključenja genetski različite od istih vrsta koje se nalaze drugdje.
Matthew Rockman, profesor biologije na Sveučilištu New York, dodao je:
- Ovi crvi žive posvuda, i žive brzo, tako da prolaze kroz desetke generacija evolucije dok tipični kralježnjak još uvijek oblači cipele. Istraživači su otkrili da unatoč visokom zračenju genomi crva nisu oštećeni.
Uzbudljivo otkriće ne znači da je Černobil siguran, ali sugerira da su crvi otporne životinje koje mogu izdržati ekstremne uvjete, otkrila je dr. Tintori. Dvadeset genetski različitih crva testirano je na oštećenje DNK kako bi se vidjelo imaju li neobičnu sposobnost zaštite i popravka svog genetskog materijala.
Rekla je da otkrića upućuju na to da životinje u Černobilu nisu nužno bile tolerantnije ili da su evoluirale, ali da bi otkrića mogla dovesti do boljeg razumijevanja prirodnih varijacija.

Čini se da su crvi koji žive u blizini najpoznatije zone nuklearne katastrofe, u Černobilu, razvili nove moći - imunitet na radijaciju, piše The Independent.
U novoj studiji znanstvenici su posjetili Černobil kako bi istražili obliće (nematode), sićušne crve jednostavnog genetskog sastava koji se brzo razmnožavaju. Istraživači su prikupili crve iz uzoraka tla, trulog voća i drugih materijala te testirali lokalne razine radijacije.
Razine radijacije varirale su od niskih razina koje bi bile zabilježene u velikim gradovima, do visokih razina koje se nalaze u svemiru. Znanstvenici su zatim odnijeli crve na Sveučilište u New Yorku da ih zamrznu i prouče.
Dr. Sophia Tintori, glavna autorica studije, rekla je za Daily Mail:
- Černobil je bio tragedija neshvatljivih razmjera, ali još uvijek nemamo dobar uvid u učinke katastrofe na lokalno stanovništvo. Je li iznenadna promjena okoliša odabrala vrste, ili čak jedinke unutar vrste, koji su prirodno otporniji na ionizirajuće zračenje, pita se.
Od katastrofe 1986. godine, životinje su nastavile živjeti u ukrajinskoj regiji unatoč postojanoj radijaciji nakon gotovo 40 godina.
Istraživači su prije otkrili da su životinje koje žive u Černobilskoj zoni isključenja genetski različite od istih vrsta koje se nalaze drugdje.
Matthew Rockman, profesor biologije na Sveučilištu New York, dodao je:
- Ovi crvi žive posvuda, i žive brzo, tako da prolaze kroz desetke generacija evolucije dok tipični kralježnjak još uvijek oblači cipele. Istraživači su otkrili da unatoč visokom zračenju genomi crva nisu oštećeni.
Uzbudljivo otkriće ne znači da je Černobil siguran, ali sugerira da su crvi otporne životinje koje mogu izdržati ekstremne uvjete, otkrila je dr. Tintori. Dvadeset genetski različitih crva testirano je na oštećenje DNK kako bi se vidjelo imaju li neobičnu sposobnost zaštite i popravka svog genetskog materijala.
Rekla je da otkrića upućuju na to da životinje u Černobilu nisu nužno bile tolerantnije ili da su evoluirale, ali da bi otkrića mogla dovesti do boljeg razumijevanja prirodnih varijacija.
