Gotovo polovica životinjskih vrsta u čitavom svijetu trenutačno prolazi kroz fazu opadanja veličine populacije, pokazalo je novo istraživanje, piše Hina.

Studija objavljena u utorak ispituje promjene u gustoći populacije više od 70.000 vrsta životinja iz čitavog svijeta, što ju čini najopsežnijim istraživanjem te vrste do sada.

Istraživači s Queen‘s University u Belfastu rekli su da su otkrića "drastično upozorenje" jer je globalni gubitak bioraznolikosti uzrokovan ljudskom industrijalizacijom znatno alarmantniji nego što se mislilo.

Otkrili su da 48 posto vrsta na Zemlji trenutačno prolazi kroz opadanje veličine populacije, dok se veličina populacije povećava kod manje od tri posto vrsta.

Opseg izumiranja vrsta tradicionalno se mjerio kategorijama prijetnji Međunarodne unije za očuvanje prirode (IUCN), prema kojima 28 posto života na Zemlji trenutačno prijeti izumiranje. Međutim, novo istraživanje koristilo je globalnu analizu različite mjere rizika od izumiranja, a to su "populacijski trendovi".

Znanstvenici su otkrili da je kriza izumiranja znatno ozbiljnija nego što pokazuju tradicionalne mjere temeljene na kategorijama prijetnji. Također su otkrili da 33 posto vrsta koje IUCN-ove kategorije zaštite trenutno smatraju "sigurnima" zapravo opadaju i u sve su većoj opasnosti od izumiranja.

U međuvremenu, analiza pokazuje da nedostatak vrsta s rastućom populacijom pokazuje da se druge vrste ne razvijaju kako bi zauzele mjesto izumrlih vrsta u ekosustavu.

"Ova nova metoda proučavanja i analiza na globalnoj razini pruža jasniju sliku o pravom opsegu globalne erozije bioraznolikosti koju tradicionalni pristup ne može ponuditi", rekao je dr. Daniel Pincheira-Donoso, viši predavač evolucijske biologije i makroekologije na Queen‘s University Belfast, piše Hina.

"Naš rad je drastično upozorenje o trenutnoj veličini ove krize koja već ima razorne učinke na stabilnost prirode u cjelini, te na ljudsko zdravlje i dobrobit."

Vodeća autorica istraživanja Catherine Finn dodala je: "Gotovo polovica životinja na Zemlji za koje su dostupne procjene trenutno opada. Da stvari budu još gore, mnoge životinjske vrste za koje se smatra da im ne prijeti izumiranje, zapravo progresivno opadaju."

Globalni gubitak biološke raznolikosti smatra se jednim od najozbiljnijih izazova za čovječanstvo u narednim desetljećima, koji utječe na funkcioniranje ekosustava, proizvodnju hrane, širenje bolesti i stabilnost globalnog gospodarstva.

Gotovo polovica životinjskih vrsta u čitavom svijetu trenutačno prolazi kroz fazu opadanja veličine populacije, pokazalo je novo istraživanje, piše Hina.

Studija objavljena u utorak ispituje promjene u gustoći populacije više od 70.000 vrsta životinja iz čitavog svijeta, što ju čini najopsežnijim istraživanjem te vrste do sada.

Istraživači s Queen‘s University u Belfastu rekli su da su otkrića "drastično upozorenje" jer je globalni gubitak bioraznolikosti uzrokovan ljudskom industrijalizacijom znatno alarmantniji nego što se mislilo.

Otkrili su da 48 posto vrsta na Zemlji trenutačno prolazi kroz opadanje veličine populacije, dok se veličina populacije povećava kod manje od tri posto vrsta.

Opseg izumiranja vrsta tradicionalno se mjerio kategorijama prijetnji Međunarodne unije za očuvanje prirode (IUCN), prema kojima 28 posto života na Zemlji trenutačno prijeti izumiranje. Međutim, novo istraživanje koristilo je globalnu analizu različite mjere rizika od izumiranja, a to su "populacijski trendovi".

Znanstvenici su otkrili da je kriza izumiranja znatno ozbiljnija nego što pokazuju tradicionalne mjere temeljene na kategorijama prijetnji. Također su otkrili da 33 posto vrsta koje IUCN-ove kategorije zaštite trenutno smatraju "sigurnima" zapravo opadaju i u sve su većoj opasnosti od izumiranja.

U međuvremenu, analiza pokazuje da nedostatak vrsta s rastućom populacijom pokazuje da se druge vrste ne razvijaju kako bi zauzele mjesto izumrlih vrsta u ekosustavu.

"Ova nova metoda proučavanja i analiza na globalnoj razini pruža jasniju sliku o pravom opsegu globalne erozije bioraznolikosti koju tradicionalni pristup ne može ponuditi", rekao je dr. Daniel Pincheira-Donoso, viši predavač evolucijske biologije i makroekologije na Queen‘s University Belfast, piše Hina.

"Naš rad je drastično upozorenje o trenutnoj veličini ove krize koja već ima razorne učinke na stabilnost prirode u cjelini, te na ljudsko zdravlje i dobrobit."

Vodeća autorica istraživanja Catherine Finn dodala je: "Gotovo polovica životinja na Zemlji za koje su dostupne procjene trenutno opada. Da stvari budu još gore, mnoge životinjske vrste za koje se smatra da im ne prijeti izumiranje, zapravo progresivno opadaju."

Globalni gubitak biološke raznolikosti smatra se jednim od najozbiljnijih izazova za čovječanstvo u narednim desetljećima, koji utječe na funkcioniranje ekosustava, proizvodnju hrane, širenje bolesti i stabilnost globalnog gospodarstva.

Čak trećini života na Zemlji prijeti izumiranje, čeka nas ozbiljan izazov

Gotovo polovica životinjskih vrsta u čitavom svijetu trenutačno prolazi kroz fazu opadanja veličine populacije, pokazalo je novo istraživanje, piše Hina.

Studija objavljena u utorak ispituje promjene u gustoći populacije više od 70.000 vrsta životinja iz čitavog svijeta, što ju čini najopsežnijim istraživanjem te vrste do sada.

Istraživači s Queen‘s University u Belfastu rekli su da su otkrića "drastično upozorenje" jer je globalni gubitak bioraznolikosti uzrokovan ljudskom industrijalizacijom znatno alarmantniji nego što se mislilo.

Otkrili su da 48 posto vrsta na Zemlji trenutačno prolazi kroz opadanje veličine populacije, dok se veličina populacije povećava kod manje od tri posto vrsta.

Opseg izumiranja vrsta tradicionalno se mjerio kategorijama prijetnji Međunarodne unije za očuvanje prirode (IUCN), prema kojima 28 posto života na Zemlji trenutačno prijeti izumiranje. Međutim, novo istraživanje koristilo je globalnu analizu različite mjere rizika od izumiranja, a to su "populacijski trendovi".

Znanstvenici su otkrili da je kriza izumiranja znatno ozbiljnija nego što pokazuju tradicionalne mjere temeljene na kategorijama prijetnji. Također su otkrili da 33 posto vrsta koje IUCN-ove kategorije zaštite trenutno smatraju "sigurnima" zapravo opadaju i u sve su većoj opasnosti od izumiranja.

U međuvremenu, analiza pokazuje da nedostatak vrsta s rastućom populacijom pokazuje da se druge vrste ne razvijaju kako bi zauzele mjesto izumrlih vrsta u ekosustavu.

"Ova nova metoda proučavanja i analiza na globalnoj razini pruža jasniju sliku o pravom opsegu globalne erozije bioraznolikosti koju tradicionalni pristup ne može ponuditi", rekao je dr. Daniel Pincheira-Donoso, viši predavač evolucijske biologije i makroekologije na Queen‘s University Belfast, piše Hina.

"Naš rad je drastično upozorenje o trenutnoj veličini ove krize koja već ima razorne učinke na stabilnost prirode u cjelini, te na ljudsko zdravlje i dobrobit."

Vodeća autorica istraživanja Catherine Finn dodala je: "Gotovo polovica životinja na Zemlji za koje su dostupne procjene trenutno opada. Da stvari budu još gore, mnoge životinjske vrste za koje se smatra da im ne prijeti izumiranje, zapravo progresivno opadaju."

Globalni gubitak biološke raznolikosti smatra se jednim od najozbiljnijih izazova za čovječanstvo u narednim desetljećima, koji utječe na funkcioniranje ekosustava, proizvodnju hrane, širenje bolesti i stabilnost globalnog gospodarstva.
