Psi tragači mogu s velikom preciznošću razlikovati koronavirus od 15 drugih virusnih respiratornih patogena, pokazuje njemačka studija.
Istraživanje međunarodnog tima znanstvenika na čelu s njemačkim veterinarskim fakultetom u Hannoveru (TiHo) prvi je put dokazalo da su supstance koje životinje namirišu kod ljudi zaraženih koronavirusom specifične za Sars-CoV-2.
Psi su tijekom pandemije zbog svog izvanrednog njuha korišteni u nekim javnim prostorima poput zračnih luka kako bi se spriječilo širenje infekcije.
Prema istraživanju objavljenom u časopisu Frontiers in Medicine psi tragači ne mogu namirisati virus, nego hlapljive organske spojeve koji nastaju tijekom metaboličkih procesa nakon zaraze.
"Poznato je da zarazne respiratorne bolesti mogu oslobađati specifične hlapljive organske spojeve, a ova studija pokazuje da psi mogu prepoznati jedinstvene uzorke hlapljivih organskih spojeva iz Sars-CoV-2", objasnio je Holger Volk, profesor i voditelj Klinike za male životinje u TiHo-u.
Za studiju su znanstvenici koristili 12 pasa tragača koji su obučeni inaktiviranim uzorcima sline pacijenata zaraženih koronom.
Uzorci su sadržavali različite virusne patogene među kojima je bio i Sars-CoV-2, ali i patogeni gripe poput influence tipa A i B, rinovirusa i drugih koronavirusa poput MERS-a.
Kontrolni uzorak bila je slina zdravih dobrovoljaca i nezaražene stanične kulture.
"Prosječne specifičnosti bile su iznad 90 posto u sva tri scenarija u testiranju, što ukazuje na to da psi mogu razlikovati SARS-CoV-2-infekcije od drugih virusnih infekcija", navodi studija.
Specifičnost se odnosi na otkrivanje negativnih kontrolnih uzoraka.
Kako bi psi njuhom pouzdano razlikovali infekcije koronavirusom od drugih respiratornih infekcija, potrebno je u njušni trening pasa uključiti veliki broj uzoraka različitih virusnih respiratornih infekcija, napisali su autori studije.
Psi se sve više koriste za otkrivanje mirisa u nekoliko područja medicinskih istraživanja, zato što je utvrđeno da učinkovito otkrivaju zarazne i nezarazne bolesti kao što su različiti karcinomi, malarija, bakterijske i virusne infekcije.
Psi tragači za koronavirus su, primjerice, raspoređeni u zračnoj luci Helsinki u Finskoj, gdje one koji to žele može testirati osam obučenih pasa njušenjem komada tkanine trljane o kožu dobrovoljca.

Psi tragači mogu s velikom preciznošću razlikovati koronavirus od 15 drugih virusnih respiratornih patogena, pokazuje njemačka studija.
Istraživanje međunarodnog tima znanstvenika na čelu s njemačkim veterinarskim fakultetom u Hannoveru (TiHo) prvi je put dokazalo da su supstance koje životinje namirišu kod ljudi zaraženih koronavirusom specifične za Sars-CoV-2.
Psi su tijekom pandemije zbog svog izvanrednog njuha korišteni u nekim javnim prostorima poput zračnih luka kako bi se spriječilo širenje infekcije.
Prema istraživanju objavljenom u časopisu Frontiers in Medicine psi tragači ne mogu namirisati virus, nego hlapljive organske spojeve koji nastaju tijekom metaboličkih procesa nakon zaraze.
"Poznato je da zarazne respiratorne bolesti mogu oslobađati specifične hlapljive organske spojeve, a ova studija pokazuje da psi mogu prepoznati jedinstvene uzorke hlapljivih organskih spojeva iz Sars-CoV-2", objasnio je Holger Volk, profesor i voditelj Klinike za male životinje u TiHo-u.
Za studiju su znanstvenici koristili 12 pasa tragača koji su obučeni inaktiviranim uzorcima sline pacijenata zaraženih koronom.
Uzorci su sadržavali različite virusne patogene među kojima je bio i Sars-CoV-2, ali i patogeni gripe poput influence tipa A i B, rinovirusa i drugih koronavirusa poput MERS-a.
Kontrolni uzorak bila je slina zdravih dobrovoljaca i nezaražene stanične kulture.
"Prosječne specifičnosti bile su iznad 90 posto u sva tri scenarija u testiranju, što ukazuje na to da psi mogu razlikovati SARS-CoV-2-infekcije od drugih virusnih infekcija", navodi studija.
Specifičnost se odnosi na otkrivanje negativnih kontrolnih uzoraka.
Kako bi psi njuhom pouzdano razlikovali infekcije koronavirusom od drugih respiratornih infekcija, potrebno je u njušni trening pasa uključiti veliki broj uzoraka različitih virusnih respiratornih infekcija, napisali su autori studije.
Psi se sve više koriste za otkrivanje mirisa u nekoliko područja medicinskih istraživanja, zato što je utvrđeno da učinkovito otkrivaju zarazne i nezarazne bolesti kao što su različiti karcinomi, malarija, bakterijske i virusne infekcije.
Psi tragači za koronavirus su, primjerice, raspoređeni u zračnoj luci Helsinki u Finskoj, gdje one koji to žele može testirati osam obučenih pasa njušenjem komada tkanine trljane o kožu dobrovoljca.
