Zabrinjavajuća nova istraživanja otkrivaju da bebe imaju 15 puta više mikroplastike u tijelu od odraslih. Mikroplastika su sitni komadi plastike manji od pet milimetara, što je debljina prosječne kovanice. Ona se koristi u mnogim industrijama, uključujući kozmetiku, biotehnologiju, proizvode za pranje i kapsule lijekova, ali se mogu stvoriti i kada se plastični predmeti raspadnu.

Istraživači vjeruju da je način na koji bebe konzumiraju tako visoku razinu mikroplastike žvakanje igračka i puzanje po tepisima. Znanstveni tim je, tokom eksperimenta, tražio dvije uobičajene vrste mikroplastike: polietilen tereftalat (PET) i polikarbonat (PC) i to u uzorcima izmeta desetoro odraslih i šest beba u državi New York. U svim uzorcima pronašli su barem jednu vrstu mikroplastike.

Ipak, uspoređujući uzorke beba s uzorcima odraslih, istraživači su otkrili barem 10 puta više. Nažalost, znanstvenici još uvijek ne znaju koji su točno učinci mikroplastike na ljudsko zdravlje, no sve je veća zabrinutost da mogu biti vrlo štetni kada se progutaju. Prethodno se vjerovalo da mikroplastika bezopasno prođe kroz probavni trakst, ali nedavna istraživanja sugeriraju da sitni komadići mogu prodrijeti i u našu cirkulaciju. To postaje naročito je zabrinjavajuće kada znate da su laboratorijska istraživanja o kontaktu mikroplastike sa životinjama prouzrokovala smrt stanica, upale i metaboličke poremećaje.

Znanstvenici već imaju dokaze o prisustvu mikroplastike u organizmima stotina životinja, ali nedavno je prvi puta pronađena i kod stoke. Tako je tm stručnjaka sa amsterdamskog sveučilišta pronašao mikroplastiku u krvi 12 krava i šest svinja. Vjeruje se da mikroplastika u zemljištu može ući u usjeve koje jedu domaće životinje. Ranije ove godine, mikroplastiku je pronađena i u mišićima morskih kornjača, potvrđujući da zagađenje plastikom utječe na morski život na kemijskom nivou.

U izvještaju Centra za međunarodno pravo životne sredine iz 2019. navodi se da plastika predstavlja rizik po ljudsko zdravlje: opasne kemikalije i nove toksične supstance se dodaju u plastiku tokom proizvodnje, a kada plastika postane smeće, zagađuje životnu sredinu i našu hranu. Morski ekolozi procenjuju da se u more svake godine ispusti 17.600 tona plastike, od čega 84 posto završi na plažama, a 16 posto ostane u vodi ili padne na morsko dno.

Prošle godine, znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Duke pokazali su da ribama štete kemikalije iz mikroplastike u moru. Mnoga mikroplastika odlomljena pranjem sintetičke odjeće završit će u tamo. Neko vrijeme se također smatralo da će se mikroplastika koju ribe pojedu biti probavljena bez veće štete. Ali ovo istraživanje je to pobilo. Otkriveno je da kemikalije koje oblažu mikroplastiku negativno utječu i na reproduktivne hormone morskog svijeta.

Kao filteri mora, dagnje bi mogle priskočiti u pomoć pri uklanjanju mikroplastike iz podmorja jer se utvrdilo da njih 300 može filtrirati 250.000 komada mikroplastike po satu. Računalno modeliranje sugerira da bi ove školjke jednog dana mogle biti odgovorne za filtriranje 25 posto mikroplastike morske vode.

Zabrinjavajuća nova istraživanja otkrivaju da bebe imaju 15 puta više mikroplastike u tijelu od odraslih. Mikroplastika su sitni komadi plastike manji od pet milimetara, što je debljina prosječne kovanice. Ona se koristi u mnogim industrijama, uključujući kozmetiku, biotehnologiju, proizvode za pranje i kapsule lijekova, ali se mogu stvoriti i kada se plastični predmeti raspadnu.

Istraživači vjeruju da je način na koji bebe konzumiraju tako visoku razinu mikroplastike žvakanje igračka i puzanje po tepisima. Znanstveni tim je, tokom eksperimenta, tražio dvije uobičajene vrste mikroplastike: polietilen tereftalat (PET) i polikarbonat (PC) i to u uzorcima izmeta desetoro odraslih i šest beba u državi New York. U svim uzorcima pronašli su barem jednu vrstu mikroplastike.

Ipak, uspoređujući uzorke beba s uzorcima odraslih, istraživači su otkrili barem 10 puta više. Nažalost, znanstvenici još uvijek ne znaju koji su točno učinci mikroplastike na ljudsko zdravlje, no sve je veća zabrinutost da mogu biti vrlo štetni kada se progutaju. Prethodno se vjerovalo da mikroplastika bezopasno prođe kroz probavni trakst, ali nedavna istraživanja sugeriraju da sitni komadići mogu prodrijeti i u našu cirkulaciju. To postaje naročito je zabrinjavajuće kada znate da su laboratorijska istraživanja o kontaktu mikroplastike sa životinjama prouzrokovala smrt stanica, upale i metaboličke poremećaje.

Znanstvenici već imaju dokaze o prisustvu mikroplastike u organizmima stotina životinja, ali nedavno je prvi puta pronađena i kod stoke. Tako je tm stručnjaka sa amsterdamskog sveučilišta pronašao mikroplastiku u krvi 12 krava i šest svinja. Vjeruje se da mikroplastika u zemljištu može ući u usjeve koje jedu domaće životinje. Ranije ove godine, mikroplastiku je pronađena i u mišićima morskih kornjača, potvrđujući da zagađenje plastikom utječe na morski život na kemijskom nivou.

U izvještaju Centra za međunarodno pravo životne sredine iz 2019. navodi se da plastika predstavlja rizik po ljudsko zdravlje: opasne kemikalije i nove toksične supstance se dodaju u plastiku tokom proizvodnje, a kada plastika postane smeće, zagađuje životnu sredinu i našu hranu. Morski ekolozi procenjuju da se u more svake godine ispusti 17.600 tona plastike, od čega 84 posto završi na plažama, a 16 posto ostane u vodi ili padne na morsko dno.

Prošle godine, znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Duke pokazali su da ribama štete kemikalije iz mikroplastike u moru. Mnoga mikroplastika odlomljena pranjem sintetičke odjeće završit će u tamo. Neko vrijeme se također smatralo da će se mikroplastika koju ribe pojedu biti probavljena bez veće štete. Ali ovo istraživanje je to pobilo. Otkriveno je da kemikalije koje oblažu mikroplastiku negativno utječu i na reproduktivne hormone morskog svijeta.

Kao filteri mora, dagnje bi mogle priskočiti u pomoć pri uklanjanju mikroplastike iz podmorja jer se utvrdilo da njih 300 može filtrirati 250.000 komada mikroplastike po satu. Računalno modeliranje sugerira da bi ove školjke jednog dana mogle biti odgovorne za filtriranje 25 posto mikroplastike morske vode.

Zabrinjavajuća nova istraživanja otkrivaju da bebe imaju 15 puta više mikroplastike u tijelu od odraslih. Mikroplastika su sitni komadi plastike manji od pet milimetara, što je debljina prosječne kovanice. Ona se koristi u mnogim industrijama, uključujući kozmetiku, biotehnologiju, proizvode za pranje i kapsule lijekova, ali se mogu stvoriti i kada se plastični predmeti raspadnu.

Istraživači vjeruju da je način na koji bebe konzumiraju tako visoku razinu mikroplastike žvakanje igračka i puzanje po tepisima. Znanstveni tim je, tokom eksperimenta, tražio dvije uobičajene vrste mikroplastike: polietilen tereftalat (PET) i polikarbonat (PC) i to u uzorcima izmeta desetoro odraslih i šest beba u državi New York. U svim uzorcima pronašli su barem jednu vrstu mikroplastike....
