Na dobrom je putu tako tenisač iz Međugorja da obrani lanjski rezultat iz New Yorka kada je stigao do trećeg kola.

Meč protiv Sweetinga trajao je dva sata i 25 minuta, a Čilić je uglavnom držao konce igre u svojim rukama. Ipak, dojam je kako je taj susret trebao dobiti i još laganije, no nekoliko je puta dopuštao Amerikancu da se vrati iz izgubljene situacije.

Bilo je tako i u trećem setu kada je Sweeting nadoknadio break zaostatka i izborio još jedan tie break. Ipak, s nekoliko dobrih udaraca s osnovne crte Čilić je bio bolji u odlučujućem gemu trećeg seta i nije dopustio da se susret prvog kola nepotrebno zakomplicira.

Ivan Ljubičić, pak, nije imao nikakvih izgleda protiv odličnog i razigranog Srbina Novaka Đokovića. Srbin je željan novog dokazivanja i povratka u borbu za prva tri mjesta, trenutno mu i Nadal i Murray osjetno bježe, a pogotovo Federer koji je pobjegao za 4.380 bodova.

Protiv Ljubičića je prohujao kroz prva dva seta prepustivši hrvatskom tenisaču svega četiri gema. Veteran nije imao rješenja za igru tenisača koji je u naponu snage. U trećem je setu bilo nešto neizvjesnije, no daleko od nekog preokreta. Ljubičić se očekivano oprostio od US Opena već u prvom kolu.

Tresle se „gaće“ Dinari Safinoj

Prva tenisačica svijeta Dinara Safina bila je na pragu ispadanja već u prvom kolu US Opena. Trebalo joj je čak dva sata i 35 minuta da sa 6:7 (5), 6:2, 6:4 pobijedi Australku Oliviu Rogowsku koja je u glavni turnir ušla s pozivnicom.

U trećem je setu Rogowska povela 3:0, no Ruskinja koju trenira bivši hrvatski tenisač Željko Krajan uspjela se izvući i izbjeći postavljanje neslavnog rekorda da u povijesti ostane zabilježena kao prva nositeljica broj jedan koja je na US Openu izgubila već u prvom kolu.

Takav bi scenarij dodatno potaknuo priče kako joj nije mjesto na vrhu svjetskog ženskog tenisa, uglavnom lansirane od američkih sestara Williams koje se proteklih mjeseci neprestano bune na nepravedni renking sustav, jer na čelu je Safina koja uopće nema Grand Slam naslov.

Meč protiv Sweetinga trajao je dva sata i 25 minuta, a Čilić je uglavnom držao konce igre u svojim rukama. Ipak, dojam je kako je taj susret trebao dobiti i još laganije, no nekoliko je puta dopuštao Amerikancu da se vrati iz izgubljene situacije.

Bilo je tako i u trećem setu kada je Sweeting nadoknadio break zaostatka i izborio još jedan tie break. Ipak, s nekoliko dobrih udaraca s osnovne crte Čilić je bio bolji u odlučujućem gemu trećeg seta i nije dopustio da se susret prvog kola nepotrebno zakomplicira.

Ivan Ljubičić, pak, nije imao nikakvih izgleda protiv odličnog i razigranog Srbina Novaka Đokovića. Srbin je željan novog dokazivanja i povratka u borbu za prva tri mjesta, trenutno mu i Nadal i Murray osjetno bježe, a pogotovo Federer koji je pobjegao za 4.380 bodova.

Protiv Ljubičića je prohujao kroz prva dva seta prepustivši hrvatskom tenisaču svega četiri gema. Veteran nije imao rješenja za igru tenisača koji je u naponu snage. U trećem je setu bilo nešto neizvjesnije, no daleko od nekog preokreta. Ljubičić se očekivano oprostio od US Opena već u prvom kolu.

Tresle se „gaće“ Dinari Safinoj

Prva tenisačica svijeta Dinara Safina bila je na pragu ispadanja već u prvom kolu US Opena. Trebalo joj je čak dva sata i 35 minuta da sa 6:7 (5), 6:2, 6:4 pobijedi Australku Oliviu Rogowsku koja je u glavni turnir ušla s pozivnicom.

U trećem je setu Rogowska povela 3:0, no Ruskinja koju trenira bivši hrvatski tenisač Željko Krajan uspjela se izvući i izbjeći postavljanje neslavnog rekorda da u povijesti ostane zabilježena kao prva nositeljica broj jedan koja je na US Openu izgubila već u prvom kolu.

Takav bi scenarij dodatno potaknuo priče kako joj nije mjesto na vrhu svjetskog ženskog tenisa, uglavnom lansirane od američkih sestara Williams koje se proteklih mjeseci neprestano bune na nepravedni renking sustav, jer na čelu je Safina koja uopće nema Grand Slam naslov.
