Slovenski veteran Jernej Damjan šokirao je svijet skijaških skokova pobijedivši na drugom natjecanju Svjetskog kupa u finskom Kuusamu. Da su Slovenci već tradicionalno sjajni skakači nije nikakva novost, kao ni njihove pobjede, no ovaj trijumf 34-godišnjeg Damjana spada u red senzacija.

Ne samo što je to Ljubljančaninu tek druga pobjeda u četrnaestogodišnjoj karijeri, već je do nje došao kao potpuni autsajder i čovjek koji se nije trebao ni naći u sastavu reprezentacije! Naime, na sjever Finske Damjan je stigao nakon što ga je vodstvo reprezentacije odlučilo ubaciti umjesto tinejdžera, dvostruko mlađeg Timija Zajca.

Do promjene je došlo jer je slovenski stožer smatrao da će se u uvjetima kakvi vladaju u Kuusamu bolje snaći Damjan nego talentirani, ali nedovoljno iskusni Zajc. Malo je reći da su Slovenci pogodili s takvom odlukom. Damjan se skokovima od 140 i 142 metra drugi put popeo na najviše postolje, nakon japanskog Sappora 2014. godine.

- Uoči drugog skoka na zaletištu sam bio nervozan jer kad braniš prvo mjesto uvijek postoji dodatni pritisak, iako sam prilično iskusan. Srećom, obitelj me smirila - otkrio je Damjan koji na prvom natjecanju sezone u Poljskoj nije ni nastupio, a preko ljeta je više vremena posvetio supruzi i kćeri nego treniranju.

Odlučio se za drukčiji, opušteniji pristup nego ranije u karijeri i očito je to bio „okidač" ovakve izvedbe u Finskoj. U Kuusamo je stigao pod velom nesigurnosti jer nitko nije znao što očekivati od njega. Nije baš briljirao ni prošlog mjeseca na državnom prvenstvu kada je zauzeo četvrto mjesto, a pobijedio je baš „mali" Zajc. Damjan veli kako se dobro osjećao, vjerovao je da u nogama ima dobre daljine, ali ovakav rasplet ni on nije mogao predvidjeti.

- Ovo mi je bilo prvo natjecanje nakon duge pauze i baš sam uživao. Prije tjedan dana bio sam kod kuće, a sada sam ovdje kao pobjednik. Nemam očekivanja od sezone, neka me iznenadi! - rekao je Damjan nakon što je postao četvrti najstariji pobjednik u Svjetskom kupu. Ispred njega ostali su još samo sunarodnjak Robert Kranjec te čudesni Japanci Takanobu Okabe i jedan i jedini Noriaki Kasai.

Slovenski veteran Jernej Damjan šokirao je svijet skijaških skokova pobijedivši na drugom natjecanju Svjetskog kupa u finskom Kuusamu. Da su Slovenci već tradicionalno sjajni skakači nije nikakva novost, kao ni njihove pobjede, no ovaj trijumf 34-godišnjeg Damjana spada u red senzacija.

Ne samo što je to Ljubljančaninu tek druga pobjeda u četrnaestogodišnjoj karijeri, već je do nje došao kao potpuni autsajder i čovjek koji se nije trebao ni naći u sastavu reprezentacije! Naime, na sjever Finske Damjan je stigao nakon što ga je vodstvo reprezentacije odlučilo ubaciti umjesto tinejdžera, dvostruko mlađeg Timija Zajca.

Do promjene je došlo jer je slovenski stožer smatrao da će se u uvjetima kakvi vladaju u Kuusamu bolje snaći Damjan nego talentirani, ali nedovoljno iskusni Zajc. Malo je reći da su Slovenci pogodili s takvom odlukom. Damjan se skokovima od 140 i 142 metra drugi put popeo na najviše postolje, nakon japanskog Sappora 2014. godine.

- Uoči drugog skoka na zaletištu sam bio nervozan jer kad braniš prvo mjesto uvijek postoji dodatni pritisak, iako sam prilično iskusan. Srećom, obitelj me smirila - otkrio je Damjan koji na prvom natjecanju sezone u Poljskoj nije ni nastupio, a preko ljeta je više vremena posvetio supruzi i kćeri nego treniranju.

Odlučio se za drukčiji, opušteniji pristup nego ranije u karijeri i očito je to bio „okidač" ovakve izvedbe u Finskoj. U Kuusamo je stigao pod velom nesigurnosti jer nitko nije znao što očekivati od njega. Nije baš briljirao ni prošlog mjeseca na državnom prvenstvu kada je zauzeo četvrto mjesto, a pobijedio je baš „mali" Zajc. Damjan veli kako se dobro osjećao, vjerovao je da u nogama ima dobre daljine, ali ovakav rasplet ni on nije mogao predvidjeti.

- Ovo mi je bilo prvo natjecanje nakon duge pauze i baš sam uživao. Prije tjedan dana bio sam kod kuće, a sada sam ovdje kao pobjednik. Nemam očekivanja od sezone, neka me iznenadi! - rekao je Damjan nakon što je postao četvrti najstariji pobjednik u Svjetskom kupu. Ispred njega ostali su još samo sunarodnjak Robert Kranjec te čudesni Japanci Takanobu Okabe i jedan i jedini Noriaki Kasai.
