Meteorološki tsunamiji koji mogu nastati kao posljedica erupcije supervulkana u specifičnim uvjetima mogu stvoriti velike valove koji mogu ugroziti priobalna područja i sigurnost plovidbe, pokazalo je istraživanje, priopćeno je s Instituta Ruđer Bošković.

Istraživanje su proveli znanstvenici Instituta Ruđer Bošković (IRB), u suradnji s kolegama sa Sveučilišta u Hamburgu i Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo u Splitu.

Oni su izradili globalnu simulaciju akustičko-težinskog vala u atmosferi i valova meteoroloških tsunamija u moru koji mogu nastati kao posljedica snažne vulkanske erupcije i rezultate objavili u časopisu Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society koji se ubraja među 10 posto vodećih časopisa u atmosferskim znanostima i geoznanostima, navodi se u priopćenju.

Snažne vulkanske erupcije mogu ugroziti ljudsku populaciju neposredno u blizini samog vulkana ili posredno putem širenja vulkanskog oblaka niz vjetar, tsunamija, smanjenjem dolaznog sunčevog zračenja, ali, ako erupcija stvori snažan udarni val u atmosferi, i putem valova meteoroloških tsunamija koji mogu poplaviti obalna područja.

Takav udarni val u atmosferi, koji je moguće čuti na udaljenostima od tisuću i više kilometara i koji može više puta obići zemaljsku kuglu brzinom zvuka, može stvoriti valove do 10 metara u visinu.

U siječnju ove godine upravo je eksplozija podmorskog vulkana Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai u Pacifičkom oceanu uzrokovala takav udarni val koji je zabilježen na tisućama mikrobarografa u cijelom svijetu, pa i u Jadranu.

Na taj događaj znanstvena zajednica je reagirala izrazito uzbuđeno i erupcija je do sada već dokumentirana u desecima ‘brzih‘ radova, uključujući i više znanstvenih radova u časopisima Nature i Science.

"Zanimalo nas je koliko visoki mogu biti valovi meteoroloških tsunamija u moru u idealnim okolnostima i koliko su uvjeti za vrijeme eksplozivne erupcije vulkana Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai bili blizu takvim uvjetima", objasnila je voditeljica istraživanja iz IRB-a Cléa Denamiel.

"Uz pomoć naprednih globalnih modela atmosfere i mora, reproducirali smo sam događaj i verificirali ga globalnim mjerenjima. Potom smo načinili studiju osjetljivosti, mijenjajući brzinu udarnog vala koji je obilazio Zemlju", dodao je jedan od autora Ivica Vilibić.

Pri tome je pokazano da, ako atmosferski val putuje brzinom od oko 210 metara u sekundi, valovi meteoroloških tsunamija stvoreni tim valom mogu na pojedinim obalama doseći visinu od 10 metara, dok bi na 7 posto svih svjetskih obala visina dolaznog vala prelazila 1 metar.

Meteorološki tsunamiji koji mogu nastati kao posljedica erupcije supervulkana u specifičnim uvjetima mogu stvoriti velike valove koji mogu ugroziti priobalna područja i sigurnost plovidbe, pokazalo je istraživanje, priopćeno je s Instituta Ruđer Bošković.

Istraživanje su proveli znanstvenici Instituta Ruđer Bošković (IRB), u suradnji s kolegama sa Sveučilišta u Hamburgu i Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo u Splitu.

Oni su izradili globalnu simulaciju akustičko-težinskog vala u atmosferi i valova meteoroloških tsunamija u moru koji mogu nastati kao posljedica snažne vulkanske erupcije i rezultate objavili u časopisu Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society koji se ubraja među 10 posto vodećih časopisa u atmosferskim znanostima i geoznanostima, navodi se u priopćenju.

Snažne vulkanske erupcije mogu ugroziti ljudsku populaciju neposredno u blizini samog vulkana ili posredno putem širenja vulkanskog oblaka niz vjetar, tsunamija, smanjenjem dolaznog sunčevog zračenja, ali, ako erupcija stvori snažan udarni val u atmosferi, i putem valova meteoroloških tsunamija koji mogu poplaviti obalna područja.

Takav udarni val u atmosferi, koji je moguće čuti na udaljenostima od tisuću i više kilometara i koji može više puta obići zemaljsku kuglu brzinom zvuka, može stvoriti valove do 10 metara u visinu.

U siječnju ove godine upravo je eksplozija podmorskog vulkana Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai u Pacifičkom oceanu uzrokovala takav udarni val koji je zabilježen na tisućama mikrobarografa u cijelom svijetu, pa i u Jadranu.

Na taj događaj znanstvena zajednica je reagirala izrazito uzbuđeno i erupcija je do sada već dokumentirana u desecima ‘brzih‘ radova, uključujući i više znanstvenih radova u časopisima Nature i Science.

"Zanimalo nas je koliko visoki mogu biti valovi meteoroloških tsunamija u moru u idealnim okolnostima i koliko su uvjeti za vrijeme eksplozivne erupcije vulkana Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai bili blizu takvim uvjetima", objasnila je voditeljica istraživanja iz IRB-a Cléa Denamiel.

"Uz pomoć naprednih globalnih modela atmosfere i mora, reproducirali smo sam događaj i verificirali ga globalnim mjerenjima. Potom smo načinili studiju osjetljivosti, mijenjajući brzinu udarnog vala koji je obilazio Zemlju", dodao je jedan od autora Ivica Vilibić.

Pri tome je pokazano da, ako atmosferski val putuje brzinom od oko 210 metara u sekundi, valovi meteoroloških tsunamija stvoreni tim valom mogu na pojedinim obalama doseći visinu od 10 metara, dok bi na 7 posto svih svjetskih obala visina dolaznog vala prelazila 1 metar.
