Nije tajna da su najveće prijetnje kitovima ljudske aktivnosti, koje negativno utječu i na populacije dupina. Sudari s brodovima najveća su opasnost kitovima o čemu svjedoče i izvještaji organizacija poput WWF-a koji kazuju kako povrede ili ožiljci na mnogim kitovima odgovaraju najmanje jednom udaru broda. Tako je u Grčkoj više od polovice pronađenih kitova ulješura, ugrožene sredozemne vrste, imalo ozlijede od brodskog propelera, pri čemu pomorci na brodovima često nisu ni svjesni da su udarili kita.

Mnogi su pratili objave o grbavom kitu zvanom Fran koji je plovio zaljevom San Francisca. Od 2005. godine snimljen je čak 277 puta, no nedavno ga je udario brod, te je uginuo. Fran je bio peti kit koji je ove godine stradao u udaru broda u tom zaljevu, izvjestio je Centar za morske sisavce.

Nakon tih slučajeva, ukazalo se na projekt Whale Safe koji pomoću umjetne inteligencije nastoji upozoriti na nazočnost kitova u moru, piše Guardian.

Sustav pruža podatke gotovo u stvarnom vremenu o tome koliko je kitova prisutno u određenom području i šalje upozorenje brodarskim tvrtkama da uspore svoje brodove kako bi se izbjegli mogući sudari s tim morskim sisavcima koji putuju istim prometnim vodama u kojima često prolaze teretni brodovi.

Whale Safe radi pomoću plutača opremljenih mikrofonima kako bi se čuli kitovi, koristeći umjetnu inteligenciju donoseći procjenu o prisutnosti kitova u rasponu od niske do visoke. Također izrađuje izvještaje za brodarske kompanije, a na potonjima je da budu obzirni i smanje brzinu brodova u područjima aktivnosti kitova.

Projekt Whale Safe je započeo 2020. godine, uz financiranje milijardera i osnivača Salesforcea Marca Benioffa, a trenutno se koristi u moru oko Santa Barbare.

Morski biolozi pozdravljaju ovakva rješenja, ali ističu kako treba inzistirati na uvođenju obveze ograničenja brzine za brodove i pomicanje plovnih putova izvan ruta kitova. Primjerice, MSC Grupa, jedna od najvećih brodarskih tvrtki na svijetu, odlučila je preusmjeriti promet svojih brodova kako bi doprinijela očuvanju ugroženih kitova ulješura u Sredozemnom moru.

Nije tajna da su najveće prijetnje kitovima ljudske aktivnosti, koje negativno utječu i na populacije dupina. Sudari s brodovima najveća su opasnost kitovima o čemu svjedoče i izvještaji organizacija poput WWF-a koji kazuju kako povrede ili ožiljci na mnogim kitovima odgovaraju najmanje jednom udaru broda. Tako je u Grčkoj više od polovice pronađenih kitova ulješura, ugrožene sredozemne vrste, imalo ozlijede od brodskog propelera, pri čemu pomorci na brodovima često nisu ni svjesni da su udarili kita.

Mnogi su pratili objave o grbavom kitu zvanom Fran koji je plovio zaljevom San Francisca. Od 2005. godine snimljen je čak 277 puta, no nedavno ga je udario brod, te je uginuo. Fran je bio peti kit koji je ove godine stradao u udaru broda u tom zaljevu, izvjestio je Centar za morske sisavce.

Nakon tih slučajeva, ukazalo se na projekt Whale Safe koji pomoću umjetne inteligencije nastoji upozoriti na nazočnost kitova u moru, piše Guardian.

Sustav pruža podatke gotovo u stvarnom vremenu o tome koliko je kitova prisutno u određenom području i šalje upozorenje brodarskim tvrtkama da uspore svoje brodove kako bi se izbjegli mogući sudari s tim morskim sisavcima koji putuju istim prometnim vodama u kojima često prolaze teretni brodovi.

Whale Safe radi pomoću plutača opremljenih mikrofonima kako bi se čuli kitovi, koristeći umjetnu inteligenciju donoseći procjenu o prisutnosti kitova u rasponu od niske do visoke. Također izrađuje izvještaje za brodarske kompanije, a na potonjima je da budu obzirni i smanje brzinu brodova u područjima aktivnosti kitova.

Projekt Whale Safe je započeo 2020. godine, uz financiranje milijardera i osnivača Salesforcea Marca Benioffa, a trenutno se koristi u moru oko Santa Barbare.

Morski biolozi pozdravljaju ovakva rješenja, ali ističu kako treba inzistirati na uvođenju obveze ograničenja brzine za brodove i pomicanje plovnih putova izvan ruta kitova. Primjerice, MSC Grupa, jedna od najvećih brodarskih tvrtki na svijetu, odlučila je preusmjeriti promet svojih brodova kako bi doprinijela očuvanju ugroženih kitova ulješura u Sredozemnom moru.

Nije tajna da su najveće prijetnje kitovima ljudske aktivnosti, koje negativno utječu i na populacije dupina. Sudari s brodovima najveća su opasnost kitovima o čemu svjedoče i izvještaji organizacija poput WWF-a koji kazuju kako povrede ili ožiljci na mnogim kitovima odgovaraju najmanje jednom udaru broda. Tako je u Grčkoj više od polovice pronađenih kitova ulješura, ugrožene sredozemne vrste, imalo ozlijede od brodskog propelera, pri čemu pomorci na brodovima često nisu ni svjesni da su udarili kita.
