Fosilna riba koja je živjela još prije 420 milijuna godina, dakle prije dinosaurusa, i za koju se smatralo da je izumrla pronađena je živa u zapadnom Indijskom oceanu u blizini obale Madagaskara. Ribu nazvanu coelacanth, naime, slučajno je ponovno otkrila skupina južnoafričkih lovaca na morske pse.

Prema izvješću tamošnjih medija, do njenog otkrića došlo je zahvaljujući tome što su ribari koristili mreže stajaćice u svojim ekspedicijama lova na morske pse. Visokotehnološke dubokomorske mreže uspjele su dosegnuti područje gdje se skupljaju koelakanti, obično oko 100 do 150 metara ispod površine vode.

Ova vrsta prethodi dinosaurima, ali su se ponovno pojavile nakon izumiranja 1938. godine, a od tada je ovo prvi slučaj da je riba pronađena živa. Uspjeli su je identificirati kao pripadnika vrste "Latimeria chalumnae" sa svojih osam peraja, velikim tijelom i specifičnim uzorkom na ljuskama.

"Kada smo to detaljnije istražili, bili smo zapanjeni [uhvaćenim brojevima]... iako na Madagaskaru nije bilo proaktivnog procesa praćenja ili očuvanja koelakanti", rekao je Andrew Cooke, glavni autor nedavne studije objavljene u južnoafričkom časopisu Časopis za znanost.

Pomorski znanstvenici sada pozivaju na jačanje mjera očuvanja kako bi se zaštitile ribe.

"Takve mreže stajaćice koje se koriste za hvatanje morskih pasa relativno su nova i smrtonosnija inovacija jer su velike i mogu se postaviti u duboku vodu", napisali su istraživači u radu.

Fosilna riba koja je živjela još prije 420 milijuna godina, dakle prije dinosaurusa, i za koju se smatralo da je izumrla pronađena je živa u zapadnom Indijskom oceanu u blizini obale Madagaskara. Ribu nazvanu coelacanth, naime, slučajno je ponovno otkrila skupina južnoafričkih lovaca na morske pse.

Prema izvješću tamošnjih medija, do njenog otkrića došlo je zahvaljujući tome što su ribari koristili mreže stajaćice u svojim ekspedicijama lova na morske pse. Visokotehnološke dubokomorske mreže uspjele su dosegnuti područje gdje se skupljaju koelakanti, obično oko 100 do 150 metara ispod površine vode.

Ova vrsta prethodi dinosaurima, ali su se ponovno pojavile nakon izumiranja 1938. godine, a od tada je ovo prvi slučaj da je riba pronađena živa. Uspjeli su je identificirati kao pripadnika vrste "Latimeria chalumnae" sa svojih osam peraja, velikim tijelom i specifičnim uzorkom na ljuskama.

"Kada smo to detaljnije istražili, bili smo zapanjeni [uhvaćenim brojevima]... iako na Madagaskaru nije bilo proaktivnog procesa praćenja ili očuvanja koelakanti", rekao je Andrew Cooke, glavni autor nedavne studije objavljene u južnoafričkom časopisu Časopis za znanost.

Fosilna riba koja je živjela još prije 420 milijuna godina, dakle prije dinosaurusa, i za koju se smatralo da je izumrla pronađena je živa u zapadnom Indijskom oceanu u blizini obale Madagaskara. Ribu nazvanu coelacanth, naime, slučajno je ponovno otkrila skupina južnoafričkih lovaca na morske pse.

Prema izvješću tamošnjih medija, do njenog otkrića došlo je zahvaljujući tome što su ribari koristili mreže stajaćice u svojim ekspedicijama lova na morske pse. Visokotehnološke dubokomorske mreže uspjele su dosegnuti područje gdje se skupljaju koelakanti, obično oko 100 do 150 metara ispod površine vode.
