U Seattleu, lučkom gradu u državi Washington udahnut je novi život 105 godina staroj plivarici Emancipator. Priča nas je zaintrigirala jer ovaj brod ima hrvatske korijene, o čemu piše The Seattle times.

Koncem ljeta davne 1958. godine u tjesnacu Puget Sound, uz sjeverozapadnu obalu američke države Washington održavalo se natjecanje s oko 400 plivarica koje su se natjecale u lovu na losose. Među 10 najboljih brodova bio je Emancipator, elegantni drveni brod od 65 stopa koji je 1918. izgradio Skansie Bros iz Gig Harbora gdje živi velika hrvatska ribarska zajednica. Inače, i braća Skansi porijeklom su iz Hrvatske.

Emancipator je u 28 uzastopnih dana, izvukao čak 25 tisuća riba. Vlasnik Emancipatora i kapetan broda Nick Barhanovich, porijeklom iz Bola na Braču, postao je vrlo poznat jer je taj ulov bio jedan od najvećih pojedinačnih ulova u povijesti Puget Sounda.

Opisano je to u knjizi "The Big Run" iz 2020. autora Raya Fadicha koji je u to vrijeme radio na Emancipatoru.

Te 1958. godine angažirao ga je kapetan Nick "Foreigner" Barhanovich. Fadich nije imao pojma što ga čeka. Moramo se brzo snaći i suočiti s danima mukotrpnog fizičkog rada, ribarskim životom i svemu što nosi život na jednoj plivarici posebice u tim tjednima kada je trebalo napuniti mreže uz opasnu konkurenciju.

U daljnjim godinama, Emancipator je nastavio vjerno služiti, a danas je u vlasništvu Brada Buskea, 36-godišnjaka koji ga je posve obnovio i udahnuo mu novi život, o čemu pišu mediji iz Seattlea. Buskeova obitelj također se bavi ribarstvom, odnosno vode firmu za preradu plodova mora.

Kao dijete, Brad Buske zarađivao je za đeparac iskrcavajući ribu s Emancipatora. Kada je odrastao, odlučio je kupiti ga iako je brod bio poprilično propao.

- Nisam mogao dopustiti da umre. Brod je obnovljen u Port Townsendu gdje su majstori brodograditelji uložili veliki napor da brod bude što originalniji, pokušavajući sačuvati njegovu povijest, ne da stvorimo puku repliku, već radni brod sa svrhom. Za mene je ovaj brod kao živo biće. Ima ulja, znoja i ribljeg ulja natopljenih na njegovo drvo - kazao je Buske koji je zadržao izvornost broda. U strojarnici je i dalje stari Caterpillar, a Buske je sam ugradio moderni IMS sustav hlađenja vode.

Brod je sada vezan na Ballardovom ribarskom terminalu. Nekoliko mjeseci godišnje, s Buskeom na čelu, Emancipator nastavlja ploviti Puget Soundom.

Ta morska putanja koja je prolazila kroz Puget Sound svake sezone na putu do rijeke Fraser u Britanskoj Kolumbiji donosila je kruh ribarima na sjeverozapadu Tihog oceana više od jednog stoljeća, a među njima je bilo mnogo hrvatskih iseljenika. Lov na losose bio je zahtjevan i često opasan posao, ali iskusan kapetan i posada mogli su postići veliki uspjeh tako što su se našli na pravom mjestu u pravo vrijeme i iskoristili prirodno bogatstvo, odnosno migracije lososa.

Nick Barhanović bio je jedan od njih, Rođen je 1922. godine u Bolu na Braču, a u dobi od 15 i pol godina emigrirao je u Ameriku kako bi započeo novi život sa svojom tetkom i ujakom, Maricom i Nickom Marinkovichom u Tacomi.

Kao ribar na svojoj plivarici "The Emancipator", bio je poznat u cijeloj zajednici, kao mentor mlađim generacijama, uvijek spreman prenijeti svoje znanje i podijeliti svoje priče iz ribolova.

U Seattleu, lučkom gradu u državi Washington udahnut je novi život 105 godina staroj plivarici Emancipator. Priča nas je zaintrigirala jer ovaj brod ima hrvatske korijene, o čemu piše The Seattle times.

Koncem ljeta davne 1958. godine u tjesnacu Puget Sound, uz sjeverozapadnu obalu američke države Washington održavalo se natjecanje s oko 400 plivarica koje su se natjecale u lovu na losose. Među 10 najboljih brodova bio je Emancipator, elegantni drveni brod od 65 stopa koji je 1918. izgradio Skansie Bros iz Gig Harbora gdje živi velika hrvatska ribarska zajednica. Inače, i braća Skansi porijeklom su iz Hrvatske.

Emancipator je u 28 uzastopnih dana, izvukao čak 25 tisuća riba. Vlasnik Emancipatora i kapetan broda Nick Barhanovich, porijeklom iz Bola na Braču, postao je vrlo poznat jer je taj ulov bio jedan od najvećih pojedinačnih ulova u povijesti Puget Sounda.

Opisano je to u knjizi "The Big Run" iz 2020. autora Raya Fadicha koji je u to vrijeme radio na Emancipatoru.

Te 1958. godine angažirao ga je kapetan Nick "Foreigner" Barhanovich. Fadich nije imao pojma što ga čeka. Moramo se brzo snaći i suočiti s danima mukotrpnog fizičkog rada, ribarskim životom i svemu što nosi život na jednoj plivarici posebice u tim tjednima kada je trebalo napuniti mreže uz opasnu konkurenciju.

U daljnjim godinama, Emancipator je nastavio vjerno služiti, a danas je u vlasništvu Brada Buskea, 36-godišnjaka koji ga je posve obnovio i udahnuo mu novi život, o čemu pišu mediji iz Seattlea. Buskeova obitelj također se bavi ribarstvom, odnosno vode firmu za preradu plodova mora.

Kao dijete, Brad Buske zarađivao je za đeparac iskrcavajući ribu s Emancipatora. Kada je odrastao, odlučio je kupiti ga iako je brod bio poprilično propao.

- Nisam mogao dopustiti da umre. Brod je obnovljen u Port Townsendu gdje su majstori brodograditelji uložili veliki napor da brod bude što originalniji, pokušavajući sačuvati njegovu povijest, ne da stvorimo puku repliku, već radni brod sa svrhom. Za mene je ovaj brod kao živo biće. Ima ulja, znoja i ribljeg ulja natopljenih na njegovo drvo - kazao je Buske koji je zadržao izvornost broda. U strojarnici je i dalje stari Caterpillar, a Buske je sam ugradio moderni IMS sustav hlađenja vode.

Brod je sada vezan na Ballardovom ribarskom terminalu. Nekoliko mjeseci godišnje, s Buskeom na čelu, Emancipator nastavlja ploviti Puget Soundom.

Ribarski brod Emancipator

Ta morska putanja koja je prolazila kroz Puget Sound svake sezone na putu do rijeke Fraser u Britanskoj Kolumbiji donosila je kruh ribarima na sjeverozapadu Tihog oceana više od jednog stoljeća, a među njima je bilo mnogo hrvatskih iseljenika. Lov na losose bio je zahtjevan i često opasan posao, ali iskusan kapetan i posada mogli su postići veliki uspjeh tako što su se našli na pravom mjestu u pravo vrijeme i iskoristili prirodno bogatstvo, odnosno migracije lososa.

Nick Barhanović bio je jedan od njih, Rođen je 1922. godine u Bolu na Braču, a u dobi od 15 i pol godina emigrirao je u Ameriku kako bi započeo novi život sa svojom tetkom i ujakom, Maricom i Nickom Marinkovichom u Tacomi.

Kao ribar na svojoj plivarici "The Emancipator", bio je poznat u cijeloj zajednici, kao mentor mlađim generacijama, uvijek spreman prenijeti svoje znanje i podijeliti svoje priče iz ribolova.
