Otočje Scilly jugozapadno od Engleske groblje je više od tisuću brodova čije olupine leže na morskom dnu. Velik broj tih brodoloma ostao je zabilježen za povijest zahvaljujući obitelji Gibson koja više od 150 godina fotografira nastradale brodove.

Fotografijom se 1869. počeo baviti John Gibson koji je, dok nije postao mjesni fotograf, bio mornar. U tom su ga poslu i strasti naslijedili sinovi Alexander i Herbert, pa Alexanderov sin James, pa Frank i, na kraju, Frankova kći Sandra.

Kolekciju od oko 1800 fotografija obitelji Gibson koja je, nakon Frankove smrti 2012. ponuđena na aukciju, otkupio je National Maritime Museum iz Londona. Po riječima kustosa, kolekcija prikazuje ne samo povijest brodoloma, spašavanja brodolomaca, ali i krađe brodskih tereta od strane otočana, nego je vrijedna i kao svjedok povijesti fotografije.

To su fotografije na staklenim pločama nastale prvo vlažnim, pa kasnije i suhim procesom, potom na nitratskom filmu i kasnije na filmu od celuloznog acetata.

Otočje Scilly jugozapadno od Engleske groblje je više od tisuću brodova čije olupine leže na morskom dnu. Velik broj tih brodoloma ostao je zabilježen za povijest zahvaljujući obitelji Gibson koja više od 150 godina fotografira nastradale brodove.

Fotografijom se 1869. počeo baviti John Gibson koji je, dok nije postao mjesni fotograf, bio mornar. U tom su ga poslu i strasti naslijedili sinovi Alexander i Herbert, pa Alexanderov sin James, pa Frank i, na kraju, Frankova kći Sandra.

Kolekciju od oko 1800 fotografija obitelji Gibson koja je, nakon Frankove smrti 2012. ponuđena na aukciju, otkupio je National Maritime Museum iz Londona. Po riječima kustosa, kolekcija prikazuje ne samo povijest brodoloma, spašavanja brodolomaca, ali i krađe brodskih tereta od strane otočana, nego je vrijedna i kao svjedok povijesti fotografije.

To su fotografije na staklenim pločama nastale prvo vlažnim, pa kasnije i suhim procesom, potom na nitratskom filmu i kasnije na filmu od celuloznog acetata.

Otočje Scilly jugozapadno od Engleske groblje je više od tisuću brodova čije olupine leže na morskom dnu. Velik broj tih brodoloma ostao je zabilježen za povijest zahvaljujući obitelji Gibson koja više od 150 godina fotografira nastradale brodove.

Fotografijom se 1869. počeo baviti John Gibson koji je, dok nije postao mjesni fotograf, bio mornar. U tom su ga poslu i strasti naslijedili sinovi Alexander i Herbert, pa Alexanderov sin James, pa Frank i, na kraju, Frankova kći Sandra.

Kolekciju od oko 1800 fotografija obitelji Gibson koja je, nakon Frankove smrti 2012. ponuđena na aukciju, otkupio je National Maritime Museum iz Londona. Po riječima kustosa, kolekcija prikazuje ne samo povijest brodoloma, spašavanja brodolomaca, ali i krađe brodskih tereta od strane otočana, nego je vrijedna i kao svjedok povijesti fotografije.

To su fotografije na staklenim pločama nastale prvo vlažnim, pa kasnije i suhim procesom, potom na nitratskom filmu i kasnije na filmu od celuloznog acetata.
