Prozivanje dvojice oskarovaca, redatelja/scenarista Toma McCarthyja ("Spotlight") i zvjezdanoga glumca Matta Damona, obilježilo je početak kinodistribucije filma "Stillwater" koji smo pretpremijerno pogledali u splitskom "Cineplexxu". McCarthyja i Damona je prozvala Amanda Knox, tvrdeći da film "profitira na račun njezina života".

Je li Knox vidjela "Stillwater", premijerno prikazan polovicom srpnja na festivalu u Cannesu? Vjerojatno nije. Jer "Stillwater" je tek djelomično inspiriran nekadašnjim medijski eksponiranim slučajem američke studentice koja je provela četiri godine u talijanskom zatvoru optužena za ubojstvo cimerice u Perugiji, unatoč tvrdnjama da je nevina.

U filmu je, preklapajuće, američka studentica u francuskom gradu Marseilleu optužena za umorstvo ljubavnice Muslimanke ("Amerikanka spavala s Arapkinjom") i u tamošnjem je zatvoru odslužila pet od ukupno devet godina kazne, iako inzistira na tome da nije kriva.

"Ja sam nevina i netko mi mora pomoći", kaže američka studentica, očajna što je izgubila godine života iza rešetaka, a čekaju je još četiri.

No "Stillwater" nije biografska drama o njoj, Allison Baker (Abgail Breslin). Čujemo da je slučaj bio "velika priča" i da su "mediji bili nemilosrdni", dakle kao s Knox, ali Allison je sporedan lik u filmu fokusiranom na Billa Bakera (Damon), njezina oca građevinara/radnika na naftnoj platformi iz grada Stillwater u Oklahomi.

Uvjeren u kćerinu nevinost Bill je odlučan da je spasi pod svaku cijenu što prije. Kad ovo pročitate i sjetite se Damona, mogli biste očekivati da Jason Bourne ide tragom sveameričkog oca Liama Neesona u akcijskom trileru koji napeto otkucava "96 sati".

Damon je još uvijek nabildan, no "Stillwater" tada prvi put navodi na pogrešan trag i izvrće očekivanja, što će nastaviti raditi, mijenjajući žanrove, uvodeći preokrete itd. Već sam naslov (mirna voda) sugerira ritam filma, pa i stanje kakvo Bill želi postići (spokoj).

Bill je utjelovljenje poslovice "tiha voda brege dere", ali ispod njegove naoko mirne površine krije se čovjek željan ukrotiti burnu prošlost zbog koje je kćer i pobjegla od njega u Francusku. On pokušava sakriti tu prošlost molitvama pred objed, stoičkim stavom, bradom i bejzbolskom kapom, ali odaju ga tužne oči, povremeno i neka emocija, a glumački suptilni Damon, u jednoj od impresivnijih uloga, kanalizira drukčiju energiju no inače i nestao je u liku.

Spašavanjem kćeri Bill bi se mogao iskupiti i spasiti sebe, (o)staviti svoje demone iza rešetaka. Za početak, on postaje očinska figura maloj Mayi (Lilou Siauvaud), kćeri lokalne žene Virginie (Camille Cottin), kazališne glumice koja postaje njegov vodič kroz Marseilles i prevoditeljica za francuski, pomaže mu premostiti jezične i kulturne barijere, ali i u privatno-detektivskoj potrazi za Akimom, mladim Arapom i navodnim ubojicom Allisonine cimerice.

Dok njih troje glumački i režijski neusiljeno postaju mala obitelj, lokalni kolorit djeluje autentično, zasigurno zaslugom koscenarista Thomasa Bidegaina, autora mnogih scenarija za filmove Jacquesa Audiarda, poput "Proroka", "Hrđe i kosti", "Dheepana" i "Braće Sisters".

Na momente "Stillwater" djeluje kao francuski festivalski film s Damonom, premda je u osnovi američki srednjostrujaški, jedna od onih hollywoodskih drama devedesetih za zreliju publiku kakve se, navodno, više ne prave, uz dodatak novomilenijske "anti-feel good" mračnosti i moralne dvosmislenosti.

Središnji dio "Stillwatera" je najbolji i uspješno prelama ljudsku karakternu/obiteljsku/romantičnu dramu o sudaru dviju kultura i prilično uzbudljivi istraživački triler, znači tipove filmova s kakvima je McCarthy prethodno imao iskustva u podcijenjenom "Gostu" i "Spotlightu". McCarthy politizira i dotiče se odnosa "domaćih" i "stranaca", rase i klase, od Amerike do Francuske.

"Mi smo isti kao vi, vi imate problem s Meksikancima", govori neki francuski starčić Billu, referirajući se na arapske doseljenike. Ispočetka Bill se u Francuskoj ponaša i zvuči "kao pravi Amerikanac", govore mu "kauboju", on otkriva da kod kuće u Oklahomi drži oružje ("gun culture"), a Virginieina prijateljica će ga pitati "Jeste li glasali za Trumpa?".

Takvog lika "Stillwater" suočava s karakternom promjenom, makar jedan meksički imigrantski radnik u uvodu filma veli kako se "Amerikanci ne vole mijenjati". Naime, Bill bi se mogao osjećati većim strancem na povratku kući nego što se osjećao u stranoj zemlji.

‘Standing ovation‘ u Cannesu

Film je doživio petominutni 'standing ovation' na premijeri u Cannesu, a zanimljivo je da su i redatelj McCarthy i glumac Damon osvojili scenarističkog Oscara, prvi za "Spotlight", drugi za "Dobrog Willa Huntinga".

Prozivanje dvojice oskarovaca, redatelja/scenarista Toma McCarthyja ("Spotlight") i zvjezdanoga glumca Matta Damona, obilježilo je početak kinodistribucije filma "Stillwater" koji smo pretpremijerno pogledali u splitskom "Cineplexxu". McCarthyja i Damona je prozvala Amanda Knox, tvrdeći da film "profitira na račun njezina života".

Je li Knox vidjela "Stillwater", premijerno prikazan polovicom srpnja na festivalu u Cannesu? Vjerojatno nije. Jer "Stillwater" je tek djelomično inspiriran nekadašnjim medijski eksponiranim slučajem američke studentice koja je provela četiri godine u talijanskom zatvoru optužena za ubojstvo cimerice u Perugiji, unatoč tvrdnjama da je nevina.

U filmu je, preklapajuće, američka studentica u francuskom gradu Marseilleu optužena za umorstvo ljubavnice Muslimanke ("Amerikanka spavala s Arapkinjom") i u tamošnjem je zatvoru odslužila pet od ukupno devet godina kazne, iako inzistira na tome da nije kriva.

"Ja sam nevina i netko mi mora pomoći", kaže američka studentica, očajna što je izgubila godine života iza rešetaka, a čekaju je još četiri.

No "Stillwater" nije biografska drama o njoj, Allison Baker (Abgail Breslin). Čujemo da je slučaj bio "velika priča" i da su "mediji bili nemilosrdni", dakle kao s Knox, ali Allison je sporedan lik u filmu fokusiranom na Billa Bakera (Damon), njezina oca građevinara/radnika na naftnoj platformi iz grada Stillwater u Oklahomi.

Uvjeren u kćerinu nevinost Bill je odlučan da je spasi pod svaku cijenu što prije. Kad ovo pročitate i sjetite se Damona, mogli biste očekivati da Jason Bourne ide tragom sveameričkog oca Liama Neesona u akcijskom trileru koji napeto otkucava "96 sati".

Damon je još uvijek nabildan, no "Stillwater" tada prvi put navodi na pogrešan trag i izvrće očekivanja, što će nastaviti raditi, mijenjajući žanrove, uvodeći preokrete itd. Već sam naslov (mirna voda) sugerira ritam filma, pa i stanje kakvo Bill želi postići (spokoj).

Bill je utjelovljenje poslovice "tiha voda brege dere", ali ispod njegove naoko mirne površine krije se čovjek željan ukrotiti burnu prošlost zbog koje je kćer i pobjegla od njega u Francusku. On pokušava sakriti tu prošlost molitvama pred objed, stoičkim stavom, bradom i bejzbolskom kapom, ali odaju ga tužne oči, povremeno i neka emocija, a glumački suptilni Damon, u jednoj od impresivnijih uloga, kanalizira drukčiju energiju no inače i nestao je u liku.

Spašavanjem kćeri Bill bi se mogao iskupiti i spasiti sebe, (o)staviti svoje demone iza rešetaka. Za početak, on postaje očinska figura maloj Mayi (Lilou Siauvaud), kćeri lokalne žene Virginie (Camille Cottin), kazališne glumice koja postaje njegov vodič kroz Marseilles i prevoditeljica za francuski, pomaže mu premostiti jezične i kulturne barijere, ali i u privatno-detektivskoj potrazi za Akimom, mladim Arapom i navodnim ubojicom Allisonine cimerice.

Dok njih troje glumački i režijski neusiljeno postaju mala obitelj, lokalni kolorit djeluje autentično, zasigurno zaslugom koscenarista Thomasa Bidegaina, autora mnogih scenarija za filmove Jacquesa Audiarda, poput "Proroka", "Hrđe i kosti", "Dheepana" i "Braće Sisters".

Na momente "Stillwater" djeluje kao francuski festivalski film s Damonom, premda je u osnovi američki srednjostrujaški, jedna od onih hollywoodskih drama devedesetih za zreliju publiku kakve se, navodno, više ne prave, uz dodatak novomilenijske "anti-feel good" mračnosti i moralne dvosmislenosti.

Središnji dio "Stillwatera" je najbolji i uspješno prelama ljudsku karakternu/obiteljsku/romantičnu dramu o sudaru dviju kultura i prilično uzbudljivi istraživački triler, znači tipove filmova s kakvima je McCarthy prethodno imao iskustva u podcijenjenom "Gostu" i "Spotlightu". McCarthy politizira i dotiče se odnosa "domaćih" i "stranaca", rase i klase, od Amerike do Francuske.

"Mi smo isti kao vi, vi imate problem s Meksikancima", govori neki francuski starčić Billu, referirajući se na arapske doseljenike. Ispočetka Bill se u Francuskoj ponaša i zvuči "kao pravi Amerikanac", govore mu "kauboju", on otkriva da kod kuće u Oklahomi drži oružje ("gun culture"), a Virginieina prijateljica će ga pitati "Jeste li glasali za Trumpa?".

Takvog lika "Stillwater" suočava s karakternom promjenom, makar jedan meksički imigrantski radnik u uvodu filma veli kako se "Amerikanci ne vole mijenjati". Naime, Bill bi se mogao osjećati većim strancem na povratku kući nego što se osjećao u stranoj zemlji.

‘Standing ovation‘ u Cannesu

Film je doživio petominutni 'standing ovation' na premijeri u Cannesu, a zanimljivo je da su i redatelj McCarthy i glumac Damon osvojili scenarističkog Oscara, prvi za "Spotlight", drugi za "Dobrog Willa Huntinga".
