Američki ministar obrane Robert Gates pozvao je u subotu Iranu susjedne zemlje da izvrše pritisak na Teheran kako bi promijenio politiku, te je upozorio protivnike Sjedinjenih Država da ne iskušavaju novoizabranog predsjednika Baracka Obamu.

 

Gates je odgovarao na pitanja u sklopu konferencije o sigurnosti u Perzijskom zaljevu u Manami na kojoj je sudjelovalo 25 zemalja, među kojima Sjedinjene Države i Iran.

"Nitko ne želi promjenu režima u Iranu", rekao je. "Mi želimo promjenu politike i promjenu ponašanja kako bi Iran postao dobar susjed narodima regije, a ne izvor nestabilnosti i nasilja".

Dodao je da je sada još pitanje hoće li nova američka administracija ublažiti uvjete izravne diplomacije s Iranom.

"Ali mogu reći da novoizabrani predsjednik nema iluzija u vezi ponašanja Irana i onoga što ta zemlja poduzima u pogledu programa naoružanja".

"Trebamo zajedno raditi kako bismo izveli gospodarski i diplomatski pritisak i izazvali promjenu u ponašanju Irana", nastavio je Gates.

Gates, koji će zadržati funkciju u budućoj administraciji, rekao je da će regija Perzijskog zaljeva, bogata naftom, ostati jedna od glavnih briga Sjedinjenih Država.

"Jako griješe oni koji su mislili da će sljedeći mjeseci biti prigoda za iskušavanje nove administracije", istaknuo je Gates i dodao da će novi predsjednik i njegova ekipa, čiji je dio, biti "spremni braniti interese SAD-a, naših prijatelja i saveznika, čim preuzmu funkcije 20. siječnja.

Američki ministar obrane Robert Gates pozvao je u subotu Iranu susjedne zemlje da izvrše pritisak na Teheran kako bi promijenio politiku, te je upozorio protivnike Sjedinjenih Država da ne iskušavaju novoizabranog predsjednika Baracka Obamu.

 

Gates je odgovarao na pitanja u sklopu konferencije o sigurnosti u Perzijskom zaljevu u Manami na kojoj je sudjelovalo 25 zemalja, među kojima Sjedinjene Države i Iran.

"Nitko ne želi promjenu režima u Iranu", rekao je. "Mi želimo promjenu politike i promjenu ponašanja kako bi Iran postao dobar susjed narodima regije, a ne izvor nestabilnosti i nasilja".

Dodao je da je sada još pitanje hoće li nova američka administracija ublažiti uvjete izravne diplomacije s Iranom.

"Ali mogu reći da novoizabrani predsjednik nema iluzija u vezi ponašanja Irana i onoga što ta zemlja poduzima u pogledu programa naoružanja".

"Trebamo zajedno raditi kako bismo izveli gospodarski i diplomatski pritisak i izazvali promjenu u ponašanju Irana", nastavio je Gates.

Gates, koji će zadržati funkciju u budućoj administraciji, rekao je da će regija Perzijskog zaljeva, bogata naftom, ostati jedna od glavnih briga Sjedinjenih Država.

"Jako griješe oni koji su mislili da će sljedeći mjeseci biti prigoda za iskušavanje nove administracije", istaknuo je Gates i dodao da će novi predsjednik i njegova ekipa, čiji je dio, biti "spremni braniti interese SAD-a, naših prijatelja i saveznika, čim preuzmu funkcije 20. siječnja.
