Uspješni su bili hrvatski nogometaši do 21 godine u prvom svom susretu skupine G kvalifikacija za odlazak na Europsko prvenstvo, pobijedili su u Klasviku vršnjake s Farskih otoka s 4-2 (2-0).
Hrvatska U21 je imala sigurnih 3-0 na ovom gostovanju u 78. minuti i mirnu završnicu utakmice. Strijelci su bili Roko Šimić u 17., Veldin Hodža u 44. i Dion Drena Beljo u 75. minuti. No, potom je dva pogotka postigao Gutti Dahl-Olsen, u 78. i 85. minuti, čime se utakmica potpuno zakomplicirala, ali igrači koje vodi Dragan Skočić ipak u samom finišu nisu prosuli pobjedu. Pobjedu je u 93. minuti potvrdio Marin Ljubičić golom za 4-2.
Nakon mirnog početka prvu veliku šansu imala je domaća reprezentacija. U 16. minuti Samuelsen je pobjegao hrvatskoj obrani te je gađao suprotni kut, ali je lopta prošla tik uz vratnicu.
Već u idućem napadu Hrvatska U21 je povela. Lisica je poslao lijepu asistenciju prema Šimiću, a ovaj je atraktivno pogodio domaću mrežu za 1-0.
Pogodak je donio mirnoću hrvatskoj reprezentaciji koja je diktirala ritam susretu te je kontrolirala sva zbivanja na travnjaku. Prvu veću šansu potom je imao Bukvić koji je nakon pola sata igre pucao s 18 metara, ali je lopta prošla pored vratnice.
Hrvatska U21 potpuno je dominirala posjedom, dok se domaćin branio, a nešto jači pritisak mladih Hrvata uslijedio je krajem poluvremena što je rezultiralo i novim golom. Lijepo je s 20 metara potegnuo Hodža i pogodio za 2-0.
Početkom drugog poluvremena Hrvatska U21 je imala nove dvije lijepe šanse. U 55. minuti su dobro kombinirali Biuk i Šimić, ali nije sve okončano pogotkom, dok je u 62. Bukvić ubacio, ali je izostao drugi pogodak Šimića na susretu.
Kada je Beljo u 75. minuti postigao pogodak za 3-0 činilo se kako će sama završnica ogleda biti tek formalnost, ali za suprotno se pobrinuo Dahl-Olsen. U 78. minuti je dotični domaći igrač iskoristio pogrešku hrvatske obrane i smanjio na 1-3, dok je u 85. minuti pogodio za 2-3 i dramatičan kraj susreta.
Imao je domaćin potom dvije solidne situacije za potencijalno izjednačenje koje se nije dogodilo, a sve je okončano golom Ljubičića u 93. minuti za 4-2 Hrvatske U21.
Idući ispit Hrvatske U21 je gostovanje kod Grčke 13. listopada.

Hrvatska U21 je imala sigurnih 3-0 na ovom gostovanju u 78. minuti i mirnu završnicu utakmice. Strijelci su bili Roko Šimić u 17., Veldin Hodža u 44. i Dion Drena Beljo u 75. minuti. No, potom je dva pogotka postigao Gutti Dahl-Olsen, u 78. i 85. minuti, čime se utakmica potpuno zakomplicirala, ali igrači koje vodi Dragan Skočić ipak u samom finišu nisu prosuli pobjedu. Pobjedu je u 93. minuti potvrdio Marin Ljubičić golom za 4-2.
Nakon mirnog početka prvu veliku šansu imala je domaća reprezentacija. U 16. minuti Samuelsen je pobjegao hrvatskoj obrani te je gađao suprotni kut, ali je lopta prošla tik uz vratnicu.
Već u idućem napadu Hrvatska U21 je povela. Lisica je poslao lijepu asistenciju prema Šimiću, a ovaj je atraktivno pogodio domaću mrežu za 1-0.
Pogodak je donio mirnoću hrvatskoj reprezentaciji koja je diktirala ritam susretu te je kontrolirala sva zbivanja na travnjaku. Prvu veću šansu potom je imao Bukvić koji je nakon pola sata igre pucao s 18 metara, ali je lopta prošla pored vratnice.
Hrvatska U21 potpuno je dominirala posjedom, dok se domaćin branio, a nešto jači pritisak mladih Hrvata uslijedio je krajem poluvremena što je rezultiralo i novim golom. Lijepo je s 20 metara potegnuo Hodža i pogodio za 2-0.
Početkom drugog poluvremena Hrvatska U21 je imala nove dvije lijepe šanse. U 55. minuti su dobro kombinirali Biuk i Šimić, ali nije sve okončano pogotkom, dok je u 62. Bukvić ubacio, ali je izostao drugi pogodak Šimića na susretu.
Kada je Beljo u 75. minuti postigao pogodak za 3-0 činilo se kako će sama završnica ogleda biti tek formalnost, ali za suprotno se pobrinuo Dahl-Olsen. U 78. minuti je dotični domaći igrač iskoristio pogrešku hrvatske obrane i smanjio na 1-3, dok je u 85. minuti pogodio za 2-3 i dramatičan kraj susreta.
Imao je domaćin potom dvije solidne situacije za potencijalno izjednačenje koje se nije dogodilo, a sve je okončano golom Ljubičića u 93. minuti za 4-2 Hrvatske U21.
Idući ispit Hrvatske U21 je gostovanje kod Grčke 13. listopada.
