Iako većina ljudi pri spomenu riječi gusar zamišlja one iz 17. i 18. stoljeća, odnosno iz vremena rasta trgovačke plovidbe između kolonija i njihovih matičnih država u Starome svijetu, napadi i pljačkanje brodova događali su se puno prije toga razdoblja.

Najstariji zabilježeni gusarski napad datira iz 15. stoljeća prije naše ere, kada su napadnuti brodovi pred egipatskom obalom.

Napali su ih gusari iz Licije u Maloj Aziji koji su harali Egejskim morem i istočnim Sredozemljem.

Iz Male Azije dolaze i cilicijski gusari, koji su bili strah i trepet Mediterana u 2. stoljeću prije naše ere. Bili su toliko poznati da se u to vrijeme pojam Cilicijanac koristio kao sinonim za gusara. U jednom od svojih napada zarobili su i Julija Cezara, kojeg su pustili tek nakon isplaćene otkupnine.

Navodno je baš Cezar, sakupivši kasnije rimsku flotu, poduzeo ekspediciju koja je ne samo porazila nego i iskorijenila cilicijske gusare.

Iako većina ljudi pri spomenu riječi gusar zamišlja one iz 17. i 18. stoljeća, odnosno iz vremena rasta trgovačke plovidbe između kolonija i njihovih matičnih država u Starome svijetu, napadi i pljačkanje brodova događali su se puno prije toga razdoblja.

Najstariji zabilježeni gusarski napad datira iz 15. stoljeća prije naše ere, kada su napadnuti brodovi pred egipatskom obalom.

Napali su ih gusari iz Licije u Maloj Aziji koji su harali Egejskim morem i istočnim Sredozemljem.

Iz Male Azije dolaze i cilicijski gusari, koji su bili strah i trepet Mediterana u 2. stoljeću prije naše ere. Bili su toliko poznati da se u to vrijeme pojam Cilicijanac koristio kao sinonim za gusara. U jednom od svojih napada zarobili su i Julija Cezara, kojeg su pustili tek nakon isplaćene otkupnine.

Navodno je baš Cezar, sakupivši kasnije rimsku flotu, poduzeo ekspediciju koja je ne samo porazila nego i iskorijenila cilicijske gusare.

Iako većina ljudi pri spomenu riječi gusar zamišlja one iz 17. i 18. stoljeća, odnosno iz vremena rasta trgovačke plovidbe između kolonija i njihovih matičnih država u Starome svijetu, napadi i pljačkanje brodova događali su se puno prije toga razdoblja.

Najstariji zabilježeni gusarski napad datira iz 15. stoljeća prije naše ere, kada su napadnuti brodovi pred egipatskom obalom.

Napali su ih gusari iz Licije u Maloj Aziji koji su harali Egejskim morem i istočnim Sredozemljem.

Iz Male Azije dolaze i cilicijski gusari, koji su bili strah i trepet Mediterana u 2. stoljeću prije naše ere. Bili su toliko poznati da se u to vrijeme pojam Cilicijanac koristio kao sinonim za gusara. U jednom od svojih napada zarobili su i Julija Cezara, kojeg su pustili tek nakon isplaćene otkupnine.

Navodno je baš Cezar, sakupivši kasnije rimsku flotu, poduzeo ekspediciju koja je ne samo porazila nego i iskorijenila cilicijske gusare.
